Half Cord beautifully stacked! Thanks Travis and Eric!

The whole process of ordering a half cord of firewood was painless! I had never ordered firewood before in bulk and had lots of questions. I called the main number and Travis answered all of my questions and was very professional. He let me know it would take about a week to get the wood. Almost exactly a week later Eric showed up with the wood. He was very professional and personable. He proceeded to unload and stacked our firewood on our rack and even cleaned up after himself with a blower. Honestly, many businesses in town could learn about customer service from these guys. I highly recommend them.

This is what's left after only one night of burning, it was not a full 1/4 chord

The crew blocked my driveway while performing work in the neighborhood and showed little regard for common courtesy or respect toward neighboring residents. Before the issue escalated, I politely informed the crew that I would be leaving soon and that they would need to move their vehicle. I initially allowed them additional time to continue working. However, after they ignored my requests made from my front doorway, I was forced to approach Jake and the crew directly to clarify what they were doing was illegal and I need to go to work. Despite my repeated requests, they became argumentative and used profanity toward me, including calling me a "bitch," when I confronted them and insisted that they stop blocking my driveway and move their vehicle immediately. When I arrived home approximately five to six hours later, I discovered several trash bags filled with organic waste left on my side of the alleyway located between their client's residence (my neighbor's property) and my own. The waste appeared to have been left behind by the crew, further demonstrating a lack of professionalism, consideration, and proper cleanup practices. I found the behavior of both Jake and partially the crew to be highly disrespectful, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Please do your due diligence when hiring so called, "professionals."

Since my review the owner has contacted me to confirm he knows the measurement of a 1/2 cord and…read morereferred me to another company in Austin. He knows the correct volume measurement of wood for a cord, 1/2 cord, etc... The problem is he doesn't know the way to stack per the Texas Dept of Agriculture Weights and Measures standard for volume (measured) firewood. It is to be stacked "ranked and well-stowed, each piece in parallel to the others, and any gap in which another piece of wood can fit should be filled with wood". This is per TX Dept of Ag and NIST standards. When curing or seasoning wood, yes, you stack crosswise and loose so it dries properly, but he sells seasoned post oak by volume which should be stacked per NIST standard. He wants cash only, no receipts (IRS or Texas sales tax audit anyone?). Beware of OLS or their craigslist post. You can find their website listing here: olsfirewoodsales.webs.com (210) 275-2748 -phone number from the website, only the phone number is used on Craigslist.

Update: I got contacted by the owner of OLS Firewood who messaged me twice then blocked me on Yelp:…read more His first message was that they don't use Hirerush. I find this hard to believe as the Hirerush post I linked to dials the owner's cell if you call the number and enter the pin listed on the ad. Second message was all over the place. But notably he never disputed the fact that a half cord is 64 cubic feet of wood and he delivered 27 cubic feet of wood. Most of the message was BS. He mentioned being out of cell service during the time I texted and called him. I know this is a lie because we both have iPhones and he has read receipts turned on. So I saw him reading my texts within minutes of them being sent. Next he chastised me for my attitude implying that I would not get redress because of it. Lastly he mentioned a 24 hour policy he has about providing a refund if they come back to pick up the wood. This is not mentioned anywhere in his Craiglist posts or on his website or the Hirerush post he claims not to use. He also failed to mention this when I spoke to him over the phone shortly after delivery when I questioned the amount of wood I got. Finally, he blocked me on Yelp. Soft. Coward. Crook. The account he was messaging me on was J G which is, not surprisingly, the source of most of the hidden positive reviews for this business. He also tried to disparage another negative review poster by claiming the dude wrote a hot a check and that police were involved. Following up with said poster reveals a different story where the poster canceled a check after not getting the advertised amount of wood and the cheat having come back to pick up the wood after that fact. Registered here because this guy screwed me. I first got his number from a friend who used him a few years back, not sure if he was screwing people then or not. My friend said he got 'a ****** of wood' and was happy with the service and recommended the guy. I didn't really have a good place for 1/2 cord at the time so I never called. Coincidentally this same number came up in a Craigslist post (which was later flagged and removed...I wonder why?) and an old hirerush posting https://www.hirerush.com/service/firewood-delivered_i66819 I called the guy and said I wanted a 1/2 cord he said it was $225. I said your add says $150. He said someone else was running that post, not him (it calls his number though...). This should have been a clue to abort but mostly because my buddy was happy with his service, I proceeded. Guy shows fairly late, no big deal I didn't have anywhere to be. So I show him my 4'x4' rack and tell him where I want the extra wood stacked against a wall and around the rack. I had never ordered wood by the cord before and, at the time, had no real world idea of how much wood really is in a 1/2 cord. Guy had a crew of 3 guys working for him, one guy on the truck dropping wood in a wheel barrow, one guy wheeling it over to the rack, and one guy stacking it. Pretty efficient set up. Anyway, it was dark out and like a dumbass I did not check the wood before I paid him (again, friend vouching for him, usually good enough...not this time). So they drive off and I go take a look...and again I had no conceptual idea of what it was going to look like but just knowing my rack was 4'x4' and being capable of basic math...I knew I got shorted big time. He had filled up the rack with about 18" pieces and there was another very small pile of about 3 cubic feet. So he left me 27 cubic feet of wood for $225! I called him and, trying to be diplomatic since he had my money already, I said hey I think you made a mistake, I ordered, and paid you for, a 1/2 cord not a 1/4. And he goes 'We gave you a half, that is a 4'x'4 rack with a little left over, we sell it by the rack all the time, 6 wheel barrows full, blah blah. Call ends. It was at this point I actually measured the rack and the pile and came up with 27 cubic feet. So I text him saying a cord is 128 so I expected 64 in a half, you left 27, what gives? Nothing back. Text him again today, nothing. Call him, no answer. I'm sure I could get him by calling from a different number but obviously dude is crook and has no plans on making this right. Unacceptable. Don't buy wood from this guy.
