From the first warm "hello" at check-in to the ease of our departure, the experience felt like staying with good friends--who just happen to run an RV resort. Management That's Present and Personable What stood out immediately? Access to management. Whether face-to-face or via email, they were available and responsive. Emails with event updates and maintenance schedules kept us in the loop, which we appreciated--especially when planning cookouts or karaoke nights! Better yet, the staff weren't just employees--they were also guests, which made the whole vibe feel more down-to-earth and welcoming. They knew the area well (BBQ lovers: Lockhart is just 20 minutes away), and they were always happy to share tips. Amenities: Thoughtfully Designed and Genuinely Fun The resort checks the boxes and then some. Full hookups, well-maintained restrooms with showers, a large pool and an even larger hot tub (we once fit 12 people with room to spare!), and a killer community space next to the pool that played host to potlucks and karaoke nights. There's a massive double fireplace in that communal space, ideal for gatherings when the temps drop. And behind the building? A bonfire area and smaller fire pits surrounded by comfy seating. Bonus: free firewood during our stay! The gym is small (fits two people max) but clean and efficient with a weight machine, treadmill, and bike. There's also a super-clean laundry room with big washers and dryers that made doing laundry less of a chore. Other nice touches: a covered stage (no live shows during our stay, but it's clearly ready for action), and a dog area that was tidy and respected by both staff and fellow guests. Only things we missed? An ice machine and propane refill station--but both were a short drive away. Grounds & Sites: Clean, Sleek, and Spacious This place is sharp. Roads and sites were freshly paved, level, and easy to navigate. The grounds were neatly mowed and edged, and each RV site was thoughtfully laid out with plenty of room to back in--or pull through if you preferred. Being a newer resort, there's not much shade yet. There are young trees that'll eventually grow up, but for now, bring your own coverage if you're sun-sensitive. One notable gripe (shared by multiple guests): the bright parking-lot-style lights scattered throughout the resort. While we get the need for security, they were way too intense. Our humble suggestion? Dimmers, warmer bulbs, or better yet--low ground lighting. Let guests light their own areas for comfort and better stargazing. Location: Central and Convenient Located right off Texas Highway 21, you're close to everything without feeling crowded. Traffic wasn't bad, though you might hear a few semis braking at the nearby stoplight--nothing major. In 20-25 minutes, you can reach Kyle, Lockhart, or San Marcos, and those drives are easy and scenic. Kyle has all the basics (Walmart, H-E-B, Lowe's, etc.). Lockhart is BBQ heaven, and San Marcos is packed with chill spots and river fun. That spring-fed river runs 72° year-round--perfect for floating or paddleboarding. If you're heading into Austin, budget 45+ minutes depending on I-35 traffic. A Place to Party or Chill--Your Pick The overall vibe of The Old El Camino? A sweet mix of family-friendly and fun-loving. Whether you want to keep it quiet, socialize, or sing your heart out, it works. We made new friends quickly--thanks to the welcoming staff and well-planned community events. As for pricing, it felt more than fair. There's a refundable deposit and electric usage on top, but even with our AC running constantly, the bill wasn't shocking. Final Thoughts: We'll Be Back We felt safe, seen, and satisfied. Cleanliness was top-notch, staff were friendly and invested, and the sense of community was refreshing. We bought shirts in the front office, super cute and it was a difficult pick with so many cute shirts and sweaters. We soaked in the hot tub, it was huge and clean. The pool was beautiful wish we were here during the summer, or else I know would have stayed in the pool all day. The hookups all worked perfectly and it's just a 10-12 minute drive into San Marcos. We loved it so much, we stayed another night. We can't wait to come back and stay at this place again. Highly recommend.

I stayed in Bluebonnet (tent 1) and it had easy access to the Three Peaks Lodge. A water jug, cooler and lanterns were provided. I visited in January when temperatures dip to the 30s overnight so the in-tent fireplace, heated blanket and space heaters were essential! The Chef's Tasting Menu was unavailable during my stay so I opted for the BBQ box which included a smoked chicken, two different kinds of sausage, shrimp skewers, potato salad, slaw and rolls. I didn't mind the hands on experience but I wasn't wowed for the $60 per person price. During my visit, they were building a new South African tent so there will be more to look forward to for future stays!

I hope they keep this up. Having clean bathrooms is very important. I would not come back if the bathrooms were a problem. It had rained, so the river was running pretty good. The 3 hour float was only 1.5 hour(s). The tube rental was easy, $30 per person for all day. They take you back to the campsite and you can float as many times as you would like for the $30 daily rate. They also allow you to have multiple tubes for you and your ice chest at no extra charge. These little guys also found their way into our picnic fruit, so make sure every food item you bring is secured in an iced cooler 100% of the time you aren't eating. The water is so fun, you won't want to leave. I got a little sunburnt, so if you're pale like me-make sure you constantly reapply.

Two of the windows on the RV literally fell onto the roadway which we were traveling. They tried to blame us for the windows falling out!!! WTF Below is the full list of issues we had with the RV: - When we left Austin the glass window fell out on bedroom window onto the roadway - On our way back to Austin, we lost a second window on the dining slide out onto the roadway - Air conditioner not working in main room, E4 error code - 24/7 support not available, voicemail box full. - Roadside assistance said they couldn't help us with any of the problems - 7' broken wood board on slideout, fell and almost hit daughter in the head - The gauge on the freshwater tank doesn't work so can't tell if there's any water or not. Only discovered on the 3rd day the tank was full of water - Water fill hose leaking at connection, spraying water all over. We couldn't use the camp site water because of issue. - Hot water doesn't work on kitchen faucet - Back up camera not working - Various windows/mechanisms broken and taped on outside with shipping tape - Broken screen door handle - No key for outside storage locks - Leg on Queen bed is loose/broken - Door on bedroom doesn't stay closed or latch - Window shade in bedroom is broken - Right rear view mirror very loose - Kitchen drawers won't stay set - Slide out panel controls are reverse - Check engine light was on the whole trip. Trees aren't grown enough to have any sort of shade and aren't really planted in places where anyone was parked. We had the back corner lot with the field behind us which we (including our dog) loved, but in the month we were there it was only mowed once. That said, the management on the phone was responsive and always handled any questions we had with no issues and our refund after checkout was returned quickly.
