Great place to go - I still can't decide to give my first 5 star rating. That's what I like in…read moreSwitzerland - if you go to a rated gourmet restaurant you know what you will experience and normally you will not be disappointed. You can go to a 1 or 2 Michelin star restaurant in NYC and can have a very disappointing experience only thing to be sure about is the high check you will get. Gustav is a gourmet temple with Antonio Colaiannis as Chef. He is just great. We had a table reservation for two at a Wednesday night 7pm the restaurant was getting surprisingly busy. Front desk service was very friendly the atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcoming, they have about 80 seats but enough room between the tables to feel comfortable. We were a little early, so we decided to take a drink at the bar. They have a lovely Champagne wagon with a good choice. If I see a Champagne Jacquesson I have an easy choice. We had a glass (respectively two) of the 741 where the year 2013 is dominating. After a while we asked to go to our table. They have well trained service staff - really knowing what to do on this level. There is a small "a la carte" choice with quite reasonable prices for a gourmet temple and Zurich. You can also have a menu surprise with a choice of 3, 4, 5 or 6 courses. We went for the 5 courses option asking to have one course with the fresh Truffel (Toscana) they presented up front and naturally you have to taste the "Bouillabaisse" from Chef Cloaiannis - it's probably one of the best in the world for sure wherever I personally had one. Before starting of with the 5 course dinner - you get a "Amuse-Bouche" from the kitchen and more special a second one from the service - makes it really nice (and we should have gone for the 4-course option ;-) ). We asked for the Sommelier for getting a good wine recommendation with the menu. I was with my son - himself a Chef and Sommelier - so those two were starting a very healthy discussion ending in - that the Sommelier brought us a wine not on the wine list. A Malanser Completer (grape I think only available in Switzerland) from Giani Boner 2005. I know most of you don't expect Switzerland as a Wine country but if you ever have the chance to drink a Completer (especially from Boner - because of the oxidative treatment) you will definitely like it and asked the question "can a wine taste like that?". Switzerland has also some other really nice wines. If I would describe now all the courses this review will not end - just a small sentence "All was really wonderful". Service was great and at the end ... yes, the check was also high but worth every Dollar (Sorry, Swiss Franc).
