I did the recert class last night and have never felt so engaged. The whole class was hanging on every word right until the end. We had a lot of laughs and, what's most, I actually feel like I could be helpful should things go wrong. Do not take another course. Take this one. You will not be disappointed.

During the dive I instantly felt pain in my ear and after a week I visited a doctor which told me that I have blood in one of my ears. Apparently, I did not equalize the pressure in my ears properly. As I was searching about the indecent, lack of proper equalization is the most important cause of diving injuries. But these guys probably talked like 30 seconds about equalizing and skipped. I expect them to show how to properly equalize and take people gradually inside deep part of the pool. But unfortunately they talked more about how not to touch animals in the water (which are non-existent in pool) rather than talking about safety stuff. Anyway, poor experience, lots of ear pain which I probably need to wait couple of weeks to go away.

The Port Moody Ecological Society manages the Noon Creek Hatchery -- a totally volunteer operated…read morefacility. The hatchery provided an interesting and informative trail walk stop for daughter and I on a recent visit to Rocky Point Park and walk on Shoreline Trail. For access to the hatchery, we walked inland from the main trail, to catch a smaller trail, which took us up and into the hatchery site. At the hatchery, volunteers at the time were friendly, helpful, and informative. I had several questions relating to operations conducted at the hatchery, and all were answered while personally touring the facility one to one with a volunteer, seeing and hearing how each is conducted. This included the incubation room, and a discussion of the procedures taken to incubate and hatch the eggs of the two species of salmon - coho and chum - handled at the facility, the freshwater holding and feeding tanks within the building, and the large, outdoor coho salmon holding area. I really appreciated the time, help, and information received. The stop and visit to the Noons Creek Hatchery was a first time experience for me, daughter had been there before, and much-enjoyed. I am so glad we decided to include this stop on our trail walk, it definitely enhanced the time spent that morning in Rocky Point Park.
