LIFT HIGH THE CROSS!!!…read more Grant G. is one of my fellow Class of 2010 classmates, and I can not say it better. Holy Cross is the bomb. We are THE top Jesuit school in New England (never mind Boston College, because they are good at sports), academically, we are equals to the Ivy Leagues and Georgetown. A fun fact for those that don't know: in the days of religious intolerance in Massachusetts, Holy Cross was not allowed to confer degrees because it is a Catholic institution. Bishop Fenwick, the founder of Holy Cross and Georgetown, signed the diplomas and they had to say Georgetown even though the students were studying at Holy Cross in Massachusetts. Anyway, HC continues to be one of the United States' top college's academically and it shows from the caliber of professors and the students. In 2014, Holy Cross jumped the rankings in US News & World Report and was ranked 25th in the US among liberal arts colleges. In PayScale's 2012-2013 study, Holy Cross ranked 7th in the nation amongst liberal arts schools for mid-career salary potential. HC has consistently been ranked by Barron's Guide to US Colleges and Universities as one of 50 of the ¨most academically demanding colleges across America¨, sharing this ranking with the Ivies, BC, Georgetown, and Notre Dame. The Princeton Review also gave Holy Cross a 98/99 academic rating, where only 5 other colleges were awarded a higher rating. Holy Cross flourishes in fellowships and grants such as Watson, Fullbright, and Rhodes. HC professors are a critical piece of this puzzle to the student's success and for this, we are grateful! They are such a part of our success that they will become parts of our lives past Mount St. James and a part of our families. Thank you, Holy Cross. In Hoc Signo Vinces! I know that for attending Holy Cross, I have become a better person. I have left with Jesuit ideals and high caliber teachings that I will never forget. -Andrea D., Class of 2010

I joined student government and became secretary. My second year, I became student government president and was Valor Victorian at graduation. That course in Speech really paid off! I went on to U-Mass Amherst and have been teaching in Florida for over 25 years. If I can do it, anyone that puts their mind to it can end up successful after studying here. I visited this summer when I was home. I'm so impressed with how much the campus has grown and how beautiful the property is. I was impressed with the food bank. The quality of the food that they have was amazing with fresh vegetables and meat. The cafeteria and the bookstore are still in the same location. I was able to buy a T-shirt, even though it was summertime. It was wonderful to walk the halls and climb the stairs where I studied so long ago.

Emails were not only written to try to drop the course on the deadline (as the registrar's office does NOT answer phones during their "business hours"), but voice messages were left as well. But seriously, if you jones for alternative medicine, you gotta come here. They do both Chinese and Japanese, and have a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) dispensary. Sign up for weekly or biweekly treatments at the student clinic and you're seen by a second--year or higher student with faculty supervision. Depending on the style of your student, they take your pulse, look at your tongue, palpate your hips, neck and stomach. Be prepared: they ask you weird questions that only make sense to them that include your food cravings, bathroom habits and sleep patterns. To be specific without being overly graphic, they ask (in very professional tones, like a doctor) how often you pee, sometimes what color it is, how often you poop, and if it's formed. I dunno what it all means, but that's not my job. So they needle you and you get to lie there on a comfy massage table for 20 minutes and zone out while the needles do their magic. I find that part just as therapeutic--kinda like how you feel after a massage: sleepy-happy. It's not like a salon where you can request a specific student; you often get the luck of the draw, or your schedule, Depending on the student, the treatment can be effective, or not, although I've seen students markedly improve in their needling technique and effectiveness by the end of the semester. The problem is, is if you like a particular student, you can't see them next semester, because this is part of their education: they need to be exposed to as many patients as possible. An occasional bonus is that many students were bodyworkers therapists or Reiki practitioners, so sometimes you can get a quick head, arm or or neck massage if it's applicable to your treatment. If you don't like needles, try the Japanese style--they're narrower and don't hurt as much. If you're afraid/squeamish of blood, you really only bleed if you're needled in a spot where the chi is stuck, and the amount is very minimal. And if you bleed, it's supposed to be good because you're unsticking what was stuck. Why pay $55 and up a session when you can pay $30? They also have satellite programs at other health centers. The one at Dimock is voluntary donation, and you could probably get away with paying $10. Tons of parking on the street and in the shopping center behind it.
