Awesome gym! I stopped in here while in the area for a wedding and had time to kill a few days…read morebefore because my fiance was int eh bridal party. I had some gear in the car so I googled bjj gyms in the area and this game up. Bunch of stand up guys (no pun intended). Everyone was super friendly and open to train. Being a visiting student from another gym you usually have the 'it feels like there is a target on my back' feeling. It was the total opposite. Everyone trained controlled and were super fun to get to work with. Both instructors trained with me which was unusual. Most places you don't see the black belts rolling with students and it is rare you will see them roll when a visiting black belt comes for fear they might lose in front of their students. I rolled with Joe and Alex. Both awesome instructors and both super talented. I had a great time and learned a new reversal that I hadn't seen before. Awesome school/awesome experience. I live 300 miles away and I wish they were a lot closer. I would recommend the gym highly for novice through advanced. I didnt get to see the class because it was just ending but they had a large kids program and the coaches really seemed to know how to work and communicate with the kids well for the limited time I saw them together, finding good kids instructors is hard so if you have kids this looks like a great choice to try out.

My Personal Experience with Carlos Henrique Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…read more This post reflects my family's personal experience after being involved with the academy for approximately six years. During that time, my son was extremely dedicated to the program and is an avid competitor in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. For over five years, he was at the academy almost every day from approximately 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. He would arrive early to assist with coaching younger students for two classes and then stay to train for two classes himself. We invested a tremendous amount of time, travel, and resources so he could compete at tournaments around the United States. Unfortunately, during that time my son experienced what we perceived as ongoing bullying behavior from another coach/parent at the academy. From our perspective, he was ridiculed, made fun of, and demoralized in front of others, which negatively impacted his confidence and emotional well-being. We raised concerns but did not feel the situation was adequately addressed. During the COVID shutdown, families continued to be charged full tuition while the academy was closed. We were told online classes would be provided, but in our experience those were limited or did not occur as expected. The academy also holds belt promotions twice a year that include a promotion fee (approximately $150). Families considering enrollment should be aware of those additional costs. When we ultimately decided to leave the academy, the transition felt uncomfortable and we felt discouraged from training elsewhere. This post reflects our family's personal experience after six years at the academy. Other families may have different experiences, but I believe parents should have full information when deciding where their children train. We have been gone for over two years now BEST DECISION I COULD HAVE EVER MADE. My son is excelling and learning to enjoy the art and sport of JIU JITSU AND COMMUNITY.

I highly recommend trying jiu jitsu - and find a place where you feel safe and you find your jiu…read morejitsu "family" - that place for me is Gracie Sports USA BJJ. I started back in 2006 in the original location with Marcio Stambowsky - the master at Gracie Sports. Marcio is an excellent friend and mentor who immediately makes you feel welcome. Professor Deborah, Marcio's daughter also teaches at the academy and brings many years of knowledge and experience. All the teachers there are amazing and the kids program is phenomenal as well. Whenever we are early for class - we watch the little kids roll and fight with the same techniques as the adults - it's great to see the quality of the education! Marcio is an 8th degree coral belt and one of the "Famous Five" black belts under Rolls Gracie. His knowledge is vast and deeply layered; it takes time to see that - but it's worth putting in the time! You can only get better! There are two locations - Norwalk across from Costco, and Fairfield near the shops downtown. Jiu Jitsu really helped me get out of my stagnant routine and "off the couch". I don't know if I would even be here today - I was 300 pounds and constantly had internal pains and health issues. I dropped 60 pounds since then and compete between 238-255. I'm still going strong at brown belt and it's my favorite thing to do - we all need something that is for "us" and sometimes you can share that with family members. I see a few couples train together and even have the kids enrolled. Jiu jitsu is awesome - and Gracie Sports USA is the awesomest! Give it a try - join today!

They are all rock stars in their own right and our family is so incredibly excited to have stumbled into this gem of a BJJ studio. Our son is a 11 y/o hockey player. He has always been looking for his second sport only this time it found him. My husband brought our kid in for a sampler lesson and oh-my-god it was love at first take-down. Instant addiction. This is THE place to be. Every single instructor is so on top of everything. They are awesome possum people who are gentle, informative, interactive, FUN, and everything you could ever want for your kid all rolled into one. I honestly cannot say enough good things about these folks. You can tell they are a family - and they humbly welcome you in. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. And I also wish we had found them sooner!
