My child is new there and new to martial arts. I have read some of the other comments that criticize the techniques that some of the students may be learning and that they are moving through the belt system too fast. I will look at it from an opposite view. I too was a young martial artist. I had some instructors that actually made me scared to go to class. They were too harsh for someone my age and as a beginner. With years of martial arts under my belt, I also walked in with criticisms in my mind forgetting that I once was a child. I want to walked as a very young boy not even a teenager yet into very intimidating schools run by adults. Although the unnecessarily hard hits, bad breath yells in my face and general "cold" dispositions may have made me tougher, but did not encourage my preteen self to want to go to class. This school has employees that are warm and embracing to the youth. In addition to the martial arts they encourage character growth in young children. For me, it's important for children to learn the foundations of martial arts Young. Proper stances, proper ways to punch, proper blocks and so on. As my son gets older, I will direct them more towards a specific discipline that he can master. He currently likes attending this school and is motivated to go . When that changes, the school is going to change. I will offer a long-term review later based on his training results. For now I am comfortable with this environment for a young boy.

Chi's Martial Arts has two locations, the Deer Park one and their Lindenhurst location. They also have Krav Magna. Sifu Chi is a black belt in numerous disciplines and is also a PhD. What they don't tell…read moreyou is that it's basically a way to get you to the location, make you feel like an idiot and push sales on you. And surprise, surprise. It's not free either. The six week challenge sounds great in black and white. However, you have to show up 3 days a week so they can care less about your work/personal life. Their hours are a joke weeknights. The latest class is 7:30. But the shade of gray is that you have to put a $499 deposit down. And if you are able to lose 25 lbs in the six week challenge, you get your money back. That's 4 lbs a week, not realistic so you won't ever see that money again. What annoyed me the most was how pushy this guy Jay was. He needed an answer immediately if I was to sign up yet couldnt take no for an answer. First impressions are real important to me. There was no geniune, caring personalities; they spew off their sales pitch to you and bank $499 to every naive person. This business is not worth a $499 deposit nor $145 a month. These are money hungry people that see dollar signs in their sleep. My advice? Save your money. Not worth it.
