The toy department of the store is up a flight of stairs, I found the stairs and the escalator but couldn't see the elevator/lift and there was no staff member available to ask at that time so I ended up leaving without looking! I shall go back and see if I can find the elevator/lift and then edit the review. I love the selection, still like the layout (from a browsing on my own point of view) but being unable to find a lift/elevator or find a free member of staff left me a little bemused this time!

Good old fashioned department store. Since I have been back in the Uk for my visit I have been 4 times to this store. The first time I was just browsing for baby clothes and toys, second and forth time it was to use the baby change facility and third time was for a makeover at the Benefit counter. On the second visit I went to the baby changing facility as the store I had planned to visit had suffered a flood in their room. Of course the toilets, baby change facility and childrens clothes and toys are all on the top floor, this has to be the main thing which would tip them to a 4.5 star review instead of 5 given that the lift/elevator is quite slow and there is no way you can get up that far with the use of stairs! The baby changing facilities are great, smelly bin/trash can aside of course (but that is a given wherever there are changing facilities). In this one there is a toilet and sink so you can go relieve yourself at the same time and if you have toddlers/small children there are mini ones for them too in there! There is a great selection of baby and childrens clothes available here, ladies clothing, mens clothing, accessories, homeware and of course a café! Debenhams are quite possibly the best of department stores in regards to their selection and availability within towns. Not many towns are without a Debenhams and that is one of the reasons why when we got married almost 5 years ago we had a wedding list with them. In addition to the registry availability you will find there is a personal shopper service available. I can spend hours in this store, or would if my little lady would let me! I did see some nice sweaters which were around the £70 range, and I'm sure I could have afforded some of the necklaces or scarves in the back if I wanted to.

Shop is only relatively small but they always have quite a few bits to look at. Clothing is always of very good quality. I have a work blouse from here that I have washed to death but it still emerges looking pretty good ! Prices are a little bit on the high side, however, it is arguably reflected in the quality. Staff are always very chatty and friendly.

The store isn't as modern as one would expect from an anchor store of a mall, but still pretty much does the job when it is open with a satisfactory selection. The store like most branches of Debenhams is pricier than the overall feel of the store implies on the first impression. Average, generic Debenhams store with poor opening times (unstructured, closing early on most days but this is the same as the entire mall) - A useful brand for the city but not really a great store within that brand. 2*

Debenhams is like a time capsule…read more Every time I offer to take my mum shopping and we've done every other store in the city from M&S to Wallis, she swears she just wants to 'Pop in Debenhams for 5 minutes.' And of course, we always emerge weighed down by bags one or two hours later. This particular branch is tiny compared to the Manchester and London stores but they still manage to squeeze a lot of stock in. The ground floor is mainly occupied by accessories, shoes, perfume and make-up counters from Clarins to Benefit whilst the first floor has a strong selection of bed, bath, kitchen and dining room goodies. There's also a small childrens-wear department. The reason my mum loves this store however, is for the womens wear in the basement. There's air conditioning, three changing room areas and small subsidiaries of Wallis, Red Herring, Jane Norman, Warehouse, Top Shop, Oasis, Coast and Red Herring amongst others. Right now, there's also a Blue Cross sale on - which means 70% off for card-holders. Hang on, I think my mobile's ringing...

Their sales are great value and worth picking up some quality clothes for the children. I must state that I bought a beautiful pair of beaded sandals there last summer which kept on breaking and I took them back twice and then asked for a refund as it seemed to be something wrong with the design. No quibbles about returning it though and staff were very courteous.

However, the Carden Ave food hall remains one of the best I've ever been in.
