Have to agree with other reviewers: this is a tourist trap with prices only the uninformed or college students with daddy's credit card would pay. For context, I live in Philadelphia, one of the single most expensive cities in the entire country. Brand new release sealed vinyl records here that would be $35-40 at my local indie record store are priced at $70-100. The used selection isn't much better. They have CDs - open, used second hand CDs - that would be in the free bin at my local thrift store priced at $9.99. (Example: "This Fire" by Paula Cole; "Relish" by Joan Osbourne.) They had a copy of the CD single for "Crucified" by "Army of Lovers" at a cool $20, when it should be hovering at $4.99 at most. I did manage to dig out a few cheap 45s by Debbie Gibson, which is mostly due to my bad taste in music, but I will also say this: Buyer Beware. There is a huge section of dance/house/techno 12" singles in the very back with signs all over that say "$4.99", despite all of them having various price stickers on them (and often no stickers at all.) When I went to check out, one of them rung up for $9.99 and I didn't notice until AFTER my card was run. The reason my review is two stars instead of one is only because the guy checking me out was friendly and fair, admitted the signage is misleading, and refunded $5 to my card. So like others have said - the people who work here are awesome people. But even THEY surely realize what an absolute rip the entire store is, price-wise. read more

I love this record store. Every time I visit I'm taken back to simpler times. I'm a very sentimental and love indulging in nostalgia and I love perusing the aisles looking at all of the amazing albums, cds and awesome and fun merch they have here. Shirani, the owner, also known as Momma Peaches is such a delight. She's so welcoming and loves music. I love chatting with her every time I visit. Today I bought an original Beatles album and a Frankie Beverly album, along with some cute Peaches merch. The price was just right even though this was a bit of an unplanned splurge. read more

Just the loveliest people and the loveliest of spaces. Best albums on full display, great music playing: Chaka Khan. Nola has my heart in music and making outsiders feel welcome like this place does. They asked to see pics of my grown children and asked for me to return with them? Music is my therapy and my drug. And......this was the sight of one of the first "sit ins" as it was a Woolworths(?) before complete with their untouched counter and stools. I sat in one of those stools before I knew the history and, as a white person, feel like I had no right too but what an honor it was. The stool knew I was a fighter too I think. I found Peaches record store walking around Magazine st. We used to have Peaches stores in Seattle back when I was collecting records. It was nice to see this Retro Record shop in New Orleans. The bus stops are near by and the St. Charles St. Car is about 7-8 blks away walk. They have a Woolworth's Lunch Counter with the chairs in tact. But no Food Service. Ask the front desk if you can bring your own coffee in to sit there. The store had lots of CDs and Records on sale. They had small toys, T-shirts, and some artwork for sale. Ask if they have Live Music since there was a small stage in back of the store. You will need to check your backpack or large bags at the Door. Stop by and look around and it might bring back old memories back. read more

I have great memories of my father bringing my brother and I (when we were quite young) to the Peaches in Fort Lauderdale to get one vinyl record each... I even had a couple of those infamous wood crates with the well-known Peaches insignia and I even remember the times changing over to cassettes. Playing music from the Eagles, Bob Marley, Culture Club, Meatloaf and KISS are embedded as part of my youth bonding with dad... and then we grew up and Peaches eventually bankrupted and the Fort Lauderdale location became a HUSTLER store.... Fast forward to today and during a walk along Magazine Street, we came across a Peaches Record store.... I was... "mind-blown". It took me a moment to understand if this was related or associated to the Peaches of the times past. Turns out it's the last store since the Peaches chain bankrupt; the last one. I love the glass store front decor and to be welcomed by some of the owners/staff upon entering. The exterior walls and some aisles are loaded with all sorts of tchotchkes... from funky candles spoofing religious candles to cool keychains, recipe books to tote bags, the famous wood crates, must cassettes, stickers... there's even a Dashboard Jesus (like a bobble head for your car dash). Once upon a time, they had a functioning diner counter; which now look vintage and cool but it's covered with inventory, paintings and music equipment. There's an immense selection of t-shirts.... some classics rock back shirts, some shirts of some popular album covers and some straight up funny stuff. Of course the highlight of the Peaches store is the aisles loaded with vinyl records in blue racks and red accented walls... the offerings are impressive but INSANELY over-priced. I completely understand a rare, hard-to-find record may be priced with a premium but all the records were priced beyond acceptable prices (even the ones easily available). I was able to find a couple records (online while at the store) that are available at Target (who have a very limited offering) and the price here was shockingly higher (some were a lot more than just a couple bucks). If you have money to burn, and you're a fan of vinyl records, then you'll love the "last" Peaches Record store. Unfortunately for me, I would've loved nothing more than to support a local shop and go back to Florida with some great vinyl but my wallet refused to splurge. A cavern of a place with lots of product. Scored a used Bert Kaempfert for $4.99 but don't really have the patience to flip through everything these days. Staff were friendly and helpful when questioned. There is a small stage area at the back for Live performances and a nice long bar for sodas. Happy hour on Fridays free beer and pizza. read more

We stopped here after reading that this was theist Peaches Records. I had never been to one, and there was one close to home growing up. My boyfriend talked about how much he loved the place growing up. So, I was excited for us to go there on our most recent trip. It was sort of a letdown, he wanted to get a shirt to take home, and was disappointed in the selection/quality. I had no idea what to expect, he hoped to see peach crates all around, there wasn't. I thought it was neat that it was an old Woolworth's Store with the luncheonette counter from the 40s. Too bad there was stuff (canvases) blocking the view. All in all, I guess it depends on whether or not you have a nostalgic connection to Peaches Records or not. I'll start off by saying that everyone employed here is incredibly kind, so I have no complaints about my actual shopping experience. That being said... holy tourist trap, Batman. I am not unfamiliar with purchasing music. I have a record collection in the thousands and make a point to visit historical record stores whenever I travel. Compared to dozens of similar stores, the markup here is INSANE. The going price for a new, standard edition single LP is $70. Double LPs that go for $40-50 elsewhere sit at a cool $135. I understand that historical record stores come with a "name tax," but the prices here are laughably absurd. Easily 2-3x markup. I stopped in just before RSD and made note of several albums I was interested in- I found nearly all of them at my home record store (a similarly noteworthy institution on a touristy major city block) for $20-40. They have a small selection of interesting limited releases if you're willing to shell out $300+, but most of their stock is standard issue. Some interesting finds in the used section, but poorly organized and not priced well enough to make digging worth it. Their gift section is... fine? Some cute NOLA/music items but more akin to an airport Hallmark store than a spot for interesting memorabilia. Less rock & roll and more Taylor Swift. To sum it up- super disappointing. Capitalizing on a name and taking advantage of clueless tourists. Not a spot for music collectors. read more

There are was a lot of great birthday cards,cd's, records, and a ton of gifts great for a birthday. The place was reasonably priced. You can listen to music with the head phones. To my knowledge, this is the only and for sure largest record store in New Orleans and for anyone collecting vinyl it is a must visit Location there's a lot of unusual and strange selections available plus everything that's new. We got a kick ass solution of other odd gifts and T-shirts. read more

Terrible service, overpriced records, they make you check your bag at the front with no one watching them. She insisted she would watch them but when i came up there no one was around. When i went up to the register the older lady was so rude and mean when i didn't know i was supposed to ring the bell and shamed me, questioned me because i was only buying one record. I asked for a plastic sleeve for my record and she charged me $2 for one. Just order records online at Amazon and avoid this place. read more

This is a great record store especially if you are looking for records, CDs, memorabilia, etc.. I understand that they have been in business since the mid-70's and this current location used to be an old Woolworth's store. In fact, the food/seating counter is still there ! They also had a few video games that you could jam out on. I was hoping that there were more records available in the used "digging" area as most of there stock focused on new and reissues. It's impossible for me to travel without searching out the local record store and Peaches was recommended to us by a local friend. It's based in an old Woolworths, that still has the old soda shop counter along the side. When you walk in, there are rows and rows of records and CD's stretching all the way to the back. It truly is a music lovers' dream...until you look at the prices. I'm always one to support an indie shop, but as a traveler, knowing it would be hard to transport records, and a collector, who knew they were charging $5-$10 or more over the realistic value, I didn't end up buying anything. If you're looking for something hard to find, and have the money to spend, this is an ideal place to check, but if you're buying a new record that you can find elsewhere, I might get it there. This place is a museum not a record store. New Records are double what they should be. Used records are quadruple. I did find some out of print records from 2015-2018 time period that were priced at $30-$35 but couldn't be had for under $150 online. This was only because they don't sell much and you get a lot of records that sit for years or even a decade before they are purchased. Not recommended although I hear the owner is nice and does a lot for the community. read more

I liked the independent mission and had a great conversation with the owner lady. Needing the new Spoon album in my collection, I purchased the CD which is fine. I come to this record store every time I visit out of town. It's one of my favorite shops in New Orleans. This is not just any ordinary record shop, it has such a variety of everything for everyone. The variety includes: new/used vinyls, new/used cds, movies, shirts, sweaters, sunglasses, keychains, cookware, and so much more! This family owned business has been around for many years and makes you feel right at home the second you walk in the door. The lady at the register who calls herself "mama peaches" was extremely rude. Every time someone tried to walk out of the place without buying something she stopped checking people out to loudly shame them and try to get them to come back in and buy something. She would sit there and say to people "why are you leaving" and then grill them until they either ignored her and just left or stayed in the store. So unless you are 100% sure you are going to buy something don't walk into the place. The prices in this store are also insane. With shopping at a local place of course there has to be some mark up but some of the prices of normal reprints were 3x that what you would find at amazon or barnes and noble. They also were selling posters that came from 5 below for $20. Don't come here unless you want to waste your money and get bullied. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

I really, really love to support independent record stores- but Peaches Records is one of the most overpriced shops I've ever been to in my life. I do expect to pay a markup when I'm shopping independent shops, but this was extreme. If Amazon charges $20-$25, Peaches charges $40. If Walmart charges $30, Peaches charges $60. I understand that profit margins are tight for record shops, but this was way too much markup for me. read more

This is a really cool spot to get records and things you never knew you needed. The decor takes you back in time in the best way possible. I went here because I just got a vinyl record player and wanted to see if I could find some records by artists I like. I was greeted as I arrived and no one bothered me as I browsed the record selection (I love that). I do think the records here are overpriced as a I saw some of the same records at other stores and online at a significantly cheaper price. I ended up getting a few candles. They have holy candles with a bunch of local artists and other popular artists on them. These were so cool and I got a few as gifts. I also got a cool car air freshener with Tupac on it. read more

I do not live in New Orleans but it is my favorite city. My best friend sent me to this store because of her visit on a past trip. This was the best store find on my trip for sure. The staff was friendly and helpful pulling down an Anthony Bourdain shit for me. The selection is fascinating. I bought Tupac socks, the above mentioned shirt, an awesome purse in the shape of a mixtape: I don't really care about vinyl (and they REALLY do at this store and the layout is awesome) and I still had PLENTY to see, buy, and almost buy. This is a fun shop to browse in and the selection is good for both records and CDs and other merchandise like shirts and books. It is true that the prices are high to outrageous. The "whats hot" wall is full of overpriced records that is fun to flip around and gasp at the price. One example was Madonna's first album going for $70. Far from rare or obscure I doubt anyone who know anything about records or her career would spend that much on a piece of vinyl that sold millions. The rest of the items are just regularly overpriced so i would suggest that when shopping here you need to know the value of the item (easy to do in this age of smart phones) and shop wisely. I visit this store on all visits to the city and have always found a few items that are hard to find and also not priced too much. Despite the high prices i still give this 4 stars because it is fun to shop here and the owner and staff are also great. read more

I've been a loyal follower of Peaches Records since their former residence in the French Quarter. Their new digs in the former Woolworth's space uptown on Magazine is the crown jewel of that block--(sorry Miss Mae's)--and I've made several pilgrimages for music and gifts since their grand opening. Music greets you first, pumped through outdoor speakers. Next, bright lights, fun product in the window and a catchy sidewalk sandwich board at entry. They've got everything! Vinyl, CDs, tapes and used versions of all of the above. Band merchandise; t-shirts, stickers, posters, books and videos. For non music related gifts their are socks, candles, cards, incense and MORE! Need an album that's out of stock? No problem! The staff are pros and from my experience know when to expect their next shipment. They'll even let you prepay and call you when it arrives for quick pickup. Overall, this record store romanticizes the music stores of yesteryear by preserving the past and continuing the important work for the future of non-digitized music. There's SO much more here than highlighted in this short review so please put Peaches on your to do "playlist" and give them a spin! read more

For new music media this store seems just fine. But a good chunk of floor space is devoted to used records, and it is in that regard that Peaches is rotten. In decades of record buying and collecting I have never encountered a store so massively disconnected from pricing trends. As I flipped through a stack of albums I was struck by prices of $79 and $99 for ordinary, not at all rare, and rather worn copies of records sold in the $10-12 range at stores elsewhere in NOLA (and all around the USA). Others around me flipping through the stacks had similar jaw-dropping experiences, and we shared our astonishment. Peaches performs an amazing service for its peers by providing concrete and palpable evidence for every other used record store in NOLA to claim to be a discount shop. Got two Vinyls Plastic Beach and Random Access Memory (RAM) for what felt like a good price sealed. tBest to support small, local businesses :) I had an issue with the plastic beach vinyl slipping so i brought it back, they listened to the whole record and gave me some advice on how to set up my record player for newer, thicker vinyl. Awww man..this place brings me back to better days in so many ways. First of all, thr variety of music genres alone is glorious. They range from vinyl, discs, all the way to cassettes! I wouldnt be surprised if they had 8 tracks. Would any of you even know what that is?!?! Second of all, this goes way back for me because they used to be in Gentilly. I used to go in there all the time when I was a teenager. I bought a few vinyls back then. Its so nostalgic to be able to come into tbis store and see the same people working in there. Like time stood still. Only this time, the store is 3x bigger and they sell so much more than vinyls..soo much more. This store is huge and aisles are roomy. Clean and well stocked. Prices are a lil pricey but if you look hard enough, you may find a bargain. The whole store will take you at least an hour just to walk through and look around in it. I love that they incorporated the old Woolworths diner into the design of the store. It makes it so much more unique and memorable. So glad to be able to visit this place. Just walking through is an event in itself. There is something for everyone here. It eould be awesome if the diner was a working station..but it doesn't take away from the place. Just somewhere to sit while my cousin looks for anything Mariah Carey. Located near the corner of Napoleon and Magazine, it is a great tourist attraction and I hope they continue to do great business. read more

I came in to the record store which is very cluttered looks like a deserted thrift store no one said hello and as I was picking things out from pen area for gifts for holidays and shopping on magazine street the owner whom appeared to be a foreigner stopped me from Shopping after I had been in store almost 10 minutes picking out stocking stuffers she asked me to check in my bag without asking if I needed help or a hello I felt targeted as a person who lives in the neighborhood and a local artist myself who does music ...artists and locals are the ones who made this an icon place and feel discriminated against I refused to make a purchase with the encounter understanding I was shopping in my neighborhood and feel unwelcomed...I am owed an apology and hope this discrimination or inappropriate treatment of costumers stop and see this place going out of business soon now I see why there were no one else shopping there pathetic you have to jump to higher over priced items because your customer service sucks now I see why we shop online these days don't waste your money on these over priced records and knock offs...going out of business sale might get us regular prices but online I go what an encounter and I just spent money with two stores before I encountered her guess shopping spree over for me on magazine street. I will make a complaint with better business bureau about treatment as I was heckled putting her items back as I was leaving my shopping experience at magazine location. This is Harassment while shopping. This is an Amazing & FUN place to check out! If you like weird, fun, exotic things and LOVE MUSIC - you need to come check this place out. If you're like me - you will be here a while Looking through their many music selections. If you can't find what you're looking for - and you shouldn't - simply go up to the register and ask they ladies there. If they can't find it - they will order it for you! The service is amazing!! They actually have the Woolworths counter from the Academy Award winning film, The Butler - recreated indentical to the Woolworths that had the 1st Civil Rights protest sit-in! Come give these lovely ladies some love by shopping and sharing your experiences. My friend NANCYLEE turned me into this and it was awesome! I bought some souvenir gifts as well as a few things for myself! When I am back in NawLINZ I will Most definitely plan on coming back for more fun things to bring back with me.
