Unfortunately, the ultrasound machine froze every 20-30 seconds throughout the appointment, repeatedly interrupting what was already a very short experience. We also weren't able to listen to the baby's heartbeat, which was something we had really looked forward to. What made this especially frustrating was that the technician acknowledged that the machine had been "acting up," that she thought she could make it work for our appointment, and that it needed a reset. Knowing the equipment was having issues made it disappointing that the appointment proceeded when the experience was so significantly compromised. I understand that technical problems happen, but this was a meaningful family experience that we paid for, and we left feeling that we hadn't received what we came for. I've attempted to contact the clinic to discuss a refund, but their email inbox is full, so I haven't been able to reach them that way. I hope the clinic takes this feedback seriously and considers how to better handle situations like this in the future. I would have appreciated the opportunity to have the experience we booked and paid for, or at least to have been offered an alternative.

I went in for IUD removal, he performed it excellently. No pain. The strings were curled up, and he was able to retrieve them! He was very caring, supportive, positive. I trust him in guiding me in my health care. Go see him, you're in excellent hands!!! The office is charming. Very nonclinical, non-sterile like. The wait time was only 15 minutes. However, one…read moreconsistent issue has been long waits in a freezing room, wearing only a sheet, well past my appointment time. This included my most recent annual, where I was told we could do a biopsy, but the doctor arrived 40 minutes late and ultimately said she didn't have time. Unfortunately, the last three months have been truly frustrating. I had a small, persistent irritated spot below my clitoris, and my usual doctor referred me to Dr. Schreiber for biopsy/removal. While Dr. Schreiber was pleasant, she mistakenly removed tissue from the wrong area (labial skin). A simple "Can you confirm this is the correct spot?" before the procedure could have prevented this error. At the stitches removal appointment, she had the nerve to tell me I was wrong and that the spot I'm indicating was just irritation from the stitches below it. She agreed to remove it anyway, but didn't suggest sending it to the lab, even though I'm a recent stage 4 rectal cancer survivor. She was wrong, of course, because I felt more comfortable having just had a part of my body cut off and silver nitrate put on it than I did the entire 3 previous weeks. Over the course of multiple follow-ups and messages, my concerns were continually minimized or dismissed. I saw four different doctors: two brushed it off as inflammation, one worsened the issue by removing additional skin, and another prescribed estrogen cream only after I brought it up--and then ignored my biopsy request. Let's say they never resolved the issue, and I'm being treated by a dermatologist now who actually cares about helping. Adding to the frustration, I can never reach anyone on the phone except scheduling, and that's including the triage nurse.

If you like deep tissue, acupressure, and a really grounding massage, this is the spot. If you've never tried ashiatsu, do it. What these folks do with their feet is amazing and I think it feels soooo much better than a massage with hands (broader, deeper pressure). I work at a desk and my neck, shoulders, back, and hips pay the price, so I see Jes monthly to work things out. She is so creative and changes her approach every visit, so it never feels like the same old thing. Plus, her head/face massages are her secret gems! She always listens to me and focuses on what I want, adds heat, has great music, and a calm manner. I truly can't get regular massages elsewhere anymore, Bull City Soles spoils me! Plus it's a great value for this amazing treatment.

By my second Rolfing session with Julie, my headaches went away completely. I had not felt relief in so long. I've continued to see her when I hit a rough patch & it always helps. It's been about a year & my chronic migraines have not returned. She's helped me address other issues & ailments, always patient & caring. She's also referred me to other types of practitioners when she feels I might benefit from a different type of care. This type of honesty is deeply appreciated, & I really feel like her commitment lies in making sure her clients heal. My husband has also loved working with Julie. The space is really nice, too. Lastly - bc I wish people talked about this more - as can often happen with bodywork, there was one session where some past trauma surfaced for me unexpectedly. In those scenarios, I have often felt ashamed & embarrassed by my reactions bc they often come flying out of nowhere & can be difficult to control. Not all practitioners I've worked with seem prepared for this or able to offer trauma-informed care, but Julie's calm & gentle presence in this moment made me feel extremely safe, respected, & seen in my moment of vulnerability. I appreciated it greatly. In closing...highly recommend!!

I had an overall OK/good experience at Duke Birthing Center. I would give them 3.5 stars. I don't…read moreknow that I would lose my mind shouting their praises or anything, but they did the most important thing, which was to get that baby out safely and quickly so that we both were as healthy as possible. You really can't complain a ton when you're handed a happy, healthy baby boy and a few pain killers every so often for a few days, right? My husband and I went to the Birthing Center orientation and even took one of Duke's prenatal classes to get ready for the labor and delivery of our first child. The classes were good, they walk you all around the birthing center and explained the rooms, and processes, policies, etc. Give you a chance to ask questions and meet some of the staff. I was having some complications and had to go in before I was in full-blown labor and was sent away twice (!!) after being told by them to come in because they had a room for me. This was mildly annoying but not that big of a deal. I can labor at home as easily as I can there, but I was really, really ready to get the baby out. So when I finally did get admitted everyone was very nice and accommodating. We had one specific labor nurse assigned to us. She did a good job talking us through what was happening and was very nice and totally OK with me not doing pain meds. She was also calm when she did a reading that was clearly not good about 6-7 hours into my labor and just said that she needed to 'check with the doctor on something and would be right back'. She came back with the doctor in a sort of run/walk. They did a bunch of readings and announced that I needed to have an emergency C-section ASAP. To say that I was displeased to hear this would be an understatement. I fought with them/my husband about it for a minute because I was in a lot of pain and not wanting to do it. In the middle of this debacle my water broke. So yea, that was awesome. Anyways, I was pretty much told this was my only option. I'm not sure if that was true or not, as I have a healthy distrust of institutions, but I'm not granola enough to have a baby on my nice hardwood floors or anything. I just accepted my fate and mentally prepared myself for the end (of the pregnancy. possibly my life. I'm a little dramatic). The C-section went amazing. They wheeled me in there. The operating room filled with people. Everyone introduced themselves and walked me through what their 'job' in surgery was. Which I thought was cute, because honestly, I did not care, JUST GET THE BABY OUT OMG. I'm not sure if it was the epidural (it might have been the epidural) but it really wasn't that bad. My husband and I got to see the baby come out, they handed him right over and laid him on my chest and we did skin to skin and I nursed him. We even have cute pics of all us in gowns with blood and fluids on us, so I feel we got the whole experience despite the facts. The post-partum care was a little 'hit or miss'. We ended up being there for like 3 or 4 days and we had nurses that were AMAZING, really hands on and sweet and helped us with the baby and made sure we ordered food at the right times and nurses that came in, threw meds at me and then left... sooooo.... there's that. My major complaint would be that people (docs, nurses, lactation, peds, etc.) came in ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT. Like, Jesus H. Christ, it's 2am and we've been asleep for 45 minutes can you please go the F away?! The food was really, really delicious for hospital food and I got a menu and could order whatever I wanted which was fun because it was like low brow room service. But yea, between the unfriendly 40% of the nurses and the people stomping in at 4am and turning the lights on to poke at me or the baby I was really ready to leave. Also, some of the insurance billing wasn't done for over 30 days after I checked out and I had to fight with them/my insurance company about it which was annoying, but I was on maternity leave so I had all day to be on hold. I'd probably have a baby there again sometime...

Once I went to labor and delivery I had awesome nurses who answered all my questions and made my stay comfortable and relaxing from start to finish . The nurse who helped me deliver Ms. Agnus was the best nurse I could ever ask for . She has YEARS of experience and coached me through my vaginal delivery with the most support and love ! She made me feel strong and empowered and helped include my boyfriend in every step of the process. The rooms for labor and delivery were spacious and nice . The postpartum rooms are small but we still had a great experience there as well especially with nurse Heather who was very encouraging during my breastfeeding and very personable!!! I would highly recommend Duke birthing center and prenatal care to anyone !

The clinic itself is nestled in Hillsborough and shares a building with a dental office. It has good parking with a small lot outside. The facility is extremely clean. Kyrsten provides a lot of free stuff such as her 0-6 month postpartum guide, and has an array of perinatal samples to try in her office (Hurraw lip balm/certified organic vulvar cream/stretch mark creams/lubrications etc.) What I like about this business is that Kyrsten not only provides 1:1 patient care, but has also created an inclusive community with the Hillsborough/Chapel Hill/Mebane/Burlington moms called Nurturing Moms. She is out in the community providing patient education courses at a local yoga studio on top of free hang out events that moms can bring her kids to.
