Like the Joni Mitchell song says "You never know what you've got til it's gone," you never know how much ice you use until your refrigerator ice maker stops working. Our refrigerator/freezer is also one of those New Zealand made appliances -we will never purchase again- that we were hoping wouldn't be as difficult as our oven to repair. We called Ryan again and he remembered us (thanks to that damn oven nightmare), scheduled us in within a few days and had the problem figured out in less than 15 minutes. Only took a week to get the part needed and he came out and fixed it in less than 15 minutes. Excellent response time and customer service. We have a house full of 13+ year-old appliances that we're determined to keep running as long as possible, and this week put that goal to the test in a big way. Our dishwasher's heater broke, the fan in our refrigerator went out, a massive ice block built up inside the freezer walls and prevented the door from closing all the way, and our convection oven stopped heating after the kids went a little overboard with the microwave controls. Three appliances in one week. I reached out to Ryan during spring break to schedule repairs. He had taken the week off to spend time with his family, but he still called me back personally to make sure we were okay to wait. We scheduled the assessment within a day and completed all the repairs a few days later once the parts arrived, which took less than a week. We paid half up front and the remainder when all three appliances were fixed. We are so grateful. There's something worth saying about the trust factor here. Letting a stranger into your home means showing them the layout, who lives there, and making your family vulnerable in a real way. We trust Ryan completely. We can leave him working in an empty house without a second thought, and he always gets the job done. One more thing worth mentioning: we also purchased a rebuilt washer and dryer from the 90s through Ryan a year or so ago. Our thinking is that older machines can be repaired indefinitely, no planned obsolescence, no need to ever buy new again. They ARE loud, but they handle massive loads of laundry and linens without issue. I contacted Ryan to get a second opinion on repairing my 14 year old Jenn-Air electric downdraft vent oven. He spent 30 minutes on the phone with me trying to help me find the model number and give his opinion on whether just the temperature sensor or electric control board both needed repair. He explained that most of the time, it's the sensors that need replacement, and told me the cost. He came to my condo 20 minutes after we hung up and brought a new sensor with him, installed it, and told me to test my oven temperature for 30-60 minutes- it maintained the proper temperature! And replacing the sensor was $300 less than what another company quoted me for replacing the control panel (they didn't even suggest replacing the sensor). That company also said the hinges on the door needed replacing, but Ryan said they didn't and I could save money that way as well. In the future if I need to replace the control panel, or if I need any appliance repair, I will call Ryan. He is efficient, thoughtful, honest, and has a lot of knowledge about appliances! read more

Our LG washer was making a loud, strange noise, which I thought may be a pump. I spoke with Ryan, he agreed it may be that and set up an appointment for the next day. He came, heard the issue, fixed and cleaned up in about 45 minutes. What a FANTASTIC experience, and how lucky I was finding him. Prior experiences with other repair companies, or those who do not "work on LG" had me thinking I would not find someone. Thought I had diagnosed my dishwasher leak correctly and was anxious to have it fixed, knowing I most likely would have to wait for response and for parts. Called PDX Appliance and Ryan was able to adjust his schedule and come to my home in 20 minutes. He followed COVID protocol and was here as promised. He said my leak issue was much simpler than my (amateur) diagnosis. He was able to make some adjustments to the installation and recommended getting a spray shield. When I described the problem with our Bosch dishwasher to Ryan on the phone, he said it could be one of two problems, and he would try the cheaper repair first. He got the part and came the next day. He worked super fast, and now it works great. He is polite and pleasant and followed infection control procedures. He took his shoes off when he entered our home. Don't waste your time and money hiring Ryan's poorly run appliance repair shop. Spent $285.00 to replace blower on my Kenmore dryer. That same day the machine started squeaking again. Text messaged a recording of the dryer squeaking nonstop. Ryan became defensive and said he fixed our problem and if he were to come out again he was charging us for travel time and to assess the "new" problem. I was downright shocked by these thieves. This shop will not last with their dishonest and unprofessional business practices! Do yourself a favor avoid this shop like the plague. read more

Ryan (the owner) came out to help us with our 27 year old (I know) dryer that had stopped working. We were thinking that it might make more sense to simply get a new one, but this dryer had been working perfectly and seemed worth repairing. New appliances aren't built to last longer than the warranty, so we found PDX Appliance online and thought we'd get an opinion. Ryan came out promptly and discovered the problem was a fuse that was bad. Fortunately for us, he happened to have the replacement fuse in his truck. It's an older fuse that can be hard to find. My dryer stopped working and I had trouble finding anyone to fix it any earlier than a week or two from now (even asking if there's emergency appointments available). Ryan was able to come check out the problem, order and pick up a new part, and come back to finish the job all within a few hours of calling him.
