I always pick up the chicken leg quarters here--huge, fresh, and perfect for smoking. Great value, too. The setup looks like they move a lot more product than you'd expect from walk-in customers alone, which makes me wonder who's buying the rest of the chicken parts. I don't speak Spanish, so it's hard to know exactly what's available beyond whole chickens and leg quarters. No sign of breast or wing quarters, which is a little puzzling. If you're lookin' for Fresh Chicken, this could be your spot. The staff speak Spanish and might not be bi-lingual at the butcher area, so there could be a language barrier when ordering. It's a market and is fairly clean. The area is okay, not necessarily the best confidence instiller that it's 100% safe and a bit of a local 'hood with a sketchy feel... but if you go in the day, and park in their lot or the main street, you'll be fine. The rates seem okay, not as good as what you can get at LA's Chinatown for similar fresh butchered poultry, but this is the South Bay, Beach area of the LBC and if it's about convenience and proximity, or your Latin, more so than Asian, this could be a better option. I like it enough to give 'em * * * * four stars for their unique appeal and offerings of fresh poultry as opposed to what's sold at supermarkets. read more

I always go and buy young hen at this place, always fresh and fearly clean. Only issue is that the website and YELP open hours says they close at 8, well I head to the store, arrived around 6:30 and surprise gate metal door is locked so I ask hey it says at 8, so they point at the sign new hours says we close at 7, so I laughed like yeah but is 6:30 so the guy said we locked doors at 6:30 so at 7 we leave, ridiculously non sense for open hours if they close up 1.5 hours earlier than internet says and 30 minutes earlier than sign. read more

Just looked this place up because Thanksgiving is coming. I came here for the first time last year and ordered the turkey. Usually we get it at Ralphs or Albertsons frozen. Probably the cleanest chicken shop I've been too! All the ones in LA I go to are nowhere as clean. The price is a bit more than them but I would save TIME and GAS going here. Ok, so I went last week to this place to explore. I bought the brown eggs and they were amazing. This week Friday, I went to buy quail and chicken. The quail are in the freezer, not fresh. You can actually buy them at other places and for a better price. The chicken is fresh. That day, the guys had just killed and cleaned a lot of chicken. He was not in a good mood. Meaning, although they say that they will clean and cut for an extra fee, well that won't happen. You get what you get! The cashiers were cool. The chicken was amazing according to the family. Fresh killed chicken was delicious. We made a Hmong traditional chicken soup with the chicken accompanied by various south East Asian herbs. Service was great and prices are good. I've been regularly coming here to get rabbit meat for almost a year now, so it's about time for my review of this place. At first, I would have given this place 5 stars just for price and freshness. However, during the past few months, things have been declining here, the butchers have been shady with customers (trying to take advantage of them), and I've been less willing to go back. The last time I visited was the last straw. Here's details on why: Price: When I first came here, the price for rabbit was $15 per rabbit. On one visit, I was charged around $20 per rabbit (when the rabbits were larger than usual). During my last visit, they had permanently raised the price up to $16 per rabbit because of "how much time it takes to clean." This is now about the same price as if I purchase from an online source, not including shipping (but also not considering time and gas it takes to drive here instead). Quality: I have never had a problem with the freshness of the meat I have purchased here. But this is probably because they won't butcher the rabbits until after customers have paid each time to make sure that purchases are confirmed first. However, I did start having more problems with how well the butchers would clean the meat. When I first started coming here, the meat would be clean every time. After I started becoming more regular in my visits, they started slacking and always leaving pieces of the rabbit poop in the lower end of the intestines. (‼) SERVICE/HONESTY: This was what ruined it for me. There is a tip jar in front of where you order and pick up the meat. When I first started coming here, I was never asked about tipping. As I started regularly coming here, the younger butcher started openly asking for tip in a rude manner: just repeating "tip! Tip!" while handing over the meat. Eventually, he started asking me to wait on the side entrance to the meat area just so he could hassle me for tips and pocket the cash (that way he didn't have to share it with anyone through the tip jar). During my last visit, the older butcher asked me to wait on the side as well and told me "after I cut, tip! Tip!" I spoke with the cashier, who was very helpful, and he explained that tips all go to the jar and it is only if I want to. I refused to stay by the side entrance of the butcher area and waited to pick up my meat where I was supposed to. Then, the older butcher walks out with my meat, signals me to follow, and goes outside the store. I walked outside to get my meat from him. Then, he asked me where I parked so he could bring the meat to the car (they have never done this prior to this visit). I told him no and that I'll take the meat right where we were. He then says "tip! Tip!" I told him what the cashier told me and explained that I will tip him for his hard work, but it will be in the jar like how it is supposed to be. He then gets angry at me and started arguing with me to give him the tip because "it doesn't go in the jar." Long story short, I told him I do not appreciate being taken advantage of and will not be returning again. Even though he angrily waved his hands at me to leave and that he didn't want my tip anymore, I tipped in the jar (because they finally cleaned the meat well this time), thanked the cashier, and left. I know I am not the first customer these butchers have done this to, because I've seen multiple people wait by the side entrance of the butcher area for their meat as well. Usually it's customers who look unfamiliar with the area and shop. I really dislike dishonest employees who would hassle customers and even cheat fellow coworkers from tips just to get a few extra bits of cash for themselves. So I won't be returning here anymore. And, for anyone new considering shopping here, be careful not to let the butchers isolate you from others. Otherwise, they WILL try to squeeze extra money out of you. read more

Best place to go to get fresh meat. They don't kill it till you order it which means it's as fresh as you can get it. I go there to get rabbit meat for my cat. The only meat she's not allergic to. Yes there is a smell to the place but that's because of all the animals in the back. read more

Horrible customer service. I was planning on buying a fresh turkey from them for thanksgiving and stopped by on Saturday to reserve one. After I gave them my deposit, they took all my contact information and asked for the specific date and time that I wanted to pick the turkey up. I told them Tuesday at 6pm, took my receipt and left. On Tuesday (today) I got there 10-15 min before 6pm and stand in line for the meat dept. 25 minutes later, the attendant tells me that they do not have any turkeys left, they had all been sold. There were at least 2 other people before after me who had also reserved a turkey for 6pm pickup that were turned away. Apparently they had not been checking orders, or had set aside the number of turkeys that were reserve for pickup that day. We were told to come back tomorrow starting at 7am for pickup. There was no apology from the attendants or owners and one of the attendants was even laughing at the customers!! Since I needed the turkey today, I had no choice but to ask for my money back. This was just the last straw in many other bad experiences. The last time I shopped here, I bought what I thought was a fresh chicken only to get home and find out that it was frozen in the inside. Other times, parts of the chicken (a wing, the neck, etc) would be missing. Their meat is not always fresh. The market products are often old and stale and their produce selection is worse than what you would find at an 7-11. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

We bought a whole chicken for about $12. I brought the chicken home and removed the bones myself. The first thing I noticed was that the chicken had no smell whatsoever. The flesh was firm and there was a lot of fat on the carcass (which is a good sign). The quality of the meat was amazing. Both the dark and light meat were tender and flavorful. I went in to ask if they sold duck fat. The person at the register was not friendly at all and pointed for me to go to the meat counter. While I was waiting in line I took a picture of their price list. A guy behind the counter yelled at me to take no pictures. I said to him I was taking a picture of the sign and being nasty again yelled no pictures. I told him if he didn't want people to take pictures he should have a sign posted. I'm in my 60's and he was so disrespectful. He actually tried to stare me down; what a jerk. While in line I watched them section a chicken and one of the feet was missing. The guy found it on the floor amongst the scraps, picked it up and put it in the bag with the cut up chicken. I read the reviews and it seemed like a great local spot to get fresh eggs and poultry. After being mistreated, seeing part of the chicken that fell on the floor picked up and put in the bag, and what looks like unsanitary conditions I won't be back. read more

At first when I first heard about this place I thought it was just your typical market that sold hispanic food stuffs I was surprised that this place had quite the opposite. As small as this place is, it has quite a bit of things inside. Not just your typical groceries either but ethnic groceries, so finding the spices needed for the curry will not be a problem here. What surprised me the most is the variety of game they have available pigeon, rooster, chicken, goat, lamb, beef, turkey, rabbit meat is all available here. To make things better everything is fresh, what I mean by fresh is that has been slaughtered that day, and is ready for you to take home and cook it, I have bought everything from here from goat, lamb, and chicken, one thing I will say though because of the freshness of the produce you are going to come out of pocket a little bit more than you would elsewhere, however its well worth it. Another thing that this place sales that you cannot really find at your mainstream supermarkets is fava beans, they have them in a great amount and a great price. One thing must be said though about this place is the neighborhood is not the best one ,so going during the day will be your best bet. I went there today all the way from Corona CA about 48 plus min drive to pick up some fresh chicken. Before leaving my house I called and spoke to some one at the meat department to see if I can pre order but he told me I couldn't and I have to go there and then order. On the phone I told him I wanted "whole" chicken. So I drove there and told the guy who I was, he remembered our conversation on the phone. He gave me a receipt and told me to pay first and then he would cut the chicken up for me. I did as I was directed. However when I was waiting there for my chicken I looked at the board I noticed he sold me "old chicken" which takes 2-3 hours to cook. When I told the cashier I didn't want the "old chicken" instead I wanted young chicken he told me it was too late even though the butcher ( the guy I spoke on the phone) barely started cleaning the chicken. So I told the butcher I didn't want the "old chicken" but he said thats what I asked him for. So I realized the butcher did not understand me asking for "whole chicken" he understood I was asking for "old chicken". None of the staff spoke English well and the guy at the cash register was not helpful at all. I drove all the way from Corona to Long Beach just to be disappointed. None of them can communicate well. Now I am stuck with 7 "old chicken"!! I am giving 4 stars because the chicken old or young are really fresh and I even got 4 eggs with my chicken! The chicken don't smell the way store chicken do. I go to Pch Poultry and Market frequently and when I do the cashiers are always polite and also the workers that work in the poultry area . The store is clean. I notice that they have licensed employees that work in the poultry area at all times. The plant license is posted accordingly. I've purchased poultry from other poultry market that were not as clean. As a non-vegetarian I appreciate the fresh poultry and the ways the animals are kept in that market. read more
