She had talked about wanting to learn, and while I had seen people do it my whole life, I knew nothing about it! We signed up for the beginner classes and showed up! The lessons themselves are in the basement of Mickey and Penny's house and it is an awesome set up! Plenty of room, neat lighting and decorations all around! Penny and Mickey do a fantastic job of making everyone feel welcome and helping everyone no matter their skill level! Of course they are both fantastic shaggers that have previously competed, but they are also great teachers of the Shag! It did not take us long at all to at least be comfortable enough to go with a group from class to shag out in public one night! Unfortunately after a few lessons, COVID came about and we were not able to continue for about a year. We have recently started back and picked back up where we left off! Some of the couples in the beginners group are the same and there are some new ones, but everyone is super nice and just looking forward to having fun while also learning to do the Carolina Shag! I would definitely suggest Mickey and Penny for Shag lessons whether you are looking to get very good and compete in Shag, or just looking to learn enough to have fun on the weekends or at a party or two!

The food was also reasonably priced and had large portions, which was a nice surprise. They provided free bottled waters to guests as it has been such a hot July. I attended on July 7 with 4 adults. I did pay for a covered chairs for 2 which was worth the price. A disappointment was the rides and pools closed abruptly around 3:30 p.m. due to the threat of rain. While safety always comes first, it ended up not raining at all, so it was frustrating to lose several hours. Also, the staff had no idea and provided little updates when it did close. I wish there were more indoor or covered seating areas to escape the sun and enjoy a meal comfortably and possibly an adult area. I loved the lazee river was able to go around and around and relax. I also enjoy riding the edge it is so thrilling. Also note that on a normal day some rides (located in the back of the park) close an hour earlier than the park's closure and some rides open an hour later after the park opens (soak zone). You do have to pay to park. I had a fun visit and would definitely come back. Hopefully next time the weather cooperates a little better. As most reviews I will be back it is too close to home to not enjoy and next time I will review the food a bit more.

This is a nice park to take kids to for something to do. They had signs saying you shouldn't enter the water in certain places, but people seemed to ignore those. Parking is plentiful, but how close you can park depends on how crowded it is. We were initially directed to an overflow lot but just as we got out of the car, some spaces opened up in the main lot so we were able to move. I believe you can also get on a chartered boat here to go on Lake Norman. Nice place, we will return.

Unfortunately, that wasn't what happened. During my first race, I was running in third place when another driver repeatedly rammed me from behind. Instead of stopping the driver who was causing the problem, my kart was shut down, allowing me to fall to fourth place. I brushed it off and kept racing. On the next lap, it happened again. My kart was stopped a second time, and two more racers passed me. After that, my kart felt noticeably slower, even with the accelerator fully pressed. Whether that was intentional or part of the system, it certainly didn't feel like I was competing on equal footing anymore. What frustrated me most wasn't losing. I can handle losing. What I can't accept is paying to race while feeling like the race is being controlled instead of officiated fairly. If another driver is creating a safety issue by repeatedly ramming people from behind, address the driver causing the problem, not the person being hit. When I decided I didn't want to participate in my remaining races because I no longer felt the competition was fair, I requested a refund. I wasn't demanding anything unreasonable. I simply didn't want to continue paying for an experience I no longer enjoyed. I was immediately told the races were non-refundable, with no effort to understand my concerns or offer any reasonable solution. The manager came out, but the interaction only made things worse. The staff wasn't even polite , but and seemed very inexperienced in handling customer complaints. There was no attempt to de-escalate the situation, explain exactly why my kart was repeatedly shut down, or offer any form of customer service that would leave me feeling heard. Everything felt very rigid: "That's our policy," and that was the end of the conversation. I left feeling dismissed and disappointed. I came to spend quality time with my kids and enjoy some friendly competition. Instead, I left frustrated, because I spent a pretty penny for races I was no longer interested in doing. The facility itself is nice, but customer service matters just as much as the attractions. Until management learns how to handle legitimate customer concerns and applies race rules consistently, I can't recommend spending your money here. I'm not sure if it was the color of my skin or gender and I have NEVER made this kinda accusation, but the experience definitely felt targeted.

Then we went inside and saw Guinea pigs, rabbits, and a lizard! Phenomenal educational opportunity!! You do need a reservation for the animal tours and they have summer camp so call Ahead to make sure it's available. Parking is in the lot.

She charged me 20 dollars for one class rather than 14 like it said it would cost online. I was very aggravated by that. When we got in the room, it didn't smell very good. I've been in many hot yoga studios & this one just smelt bad. I understand that there is sweat & all that, but it just wasn't the best thing. Then when I was sweating, I found hair sticking to my feet. I'm a blonde, & this hair was black. I was extremely aggravated at this point. It was so disgusting. I even held it up in front of the instructor just so she could see this. Anyways, will not be back. I'm not happy with this place.

Having been to other Bikram studios now, and having completed a 30 day challenge (30 classes in 30…read moredays in Pittsburgh) I wanted to provide a little update to my review. I still enjoy the studio immensely-- having a Bikram studio in Winston-Salem is absolutely wonderful, but I have two minor complaints: 1) the carpet sometimes smells a bit like a locker room--I recognize the challenge in keeping things fresh, but I've experienced better at other studios 2) class times-- I realize there might be a limited number of students to attract to the studio, but I WISH there was a 6am class-- I think it would really bring a different crowd into the studio-- both students and working professionals! Another note, Bikram Yoga Winston-Salem recently changed owners, but it's still got the same great teachers and positive energy. Check them out-- look out for a groupon for new students or take advantage of their intro specials. See you on the mat!

It was energizing, welcoming, and exactly what I needed. It is locally owned and operated which I like, feels like a community spot.
