History
Established in 1947.
Fred-AstaireToday, one almost can’t turn on the TV or radio, or open a newspaper, magazine, or web page without hearing a mention of Mr. Fred Astaire in reference to dancing. He has left a lasting impact on the world and when people think of a dancing legend, Fred Astaire is the first to come to mind. We are proud of our great dance heritage which began in 1947 when the Master of dance himself, Mr. Fred Astaire, co-founded our company.
A group of people walking Mr. Fred Astaire, considered to be the greatest multi-talented dancer of all time, wanted to establish a chain of studios under his name to make sure that his techniques would be preserved and passed onto the public. Mr. Astaire was instrumental in the choice of dance curriculum and instructional techniques. With the opening of the first Fred Astaire Studio on Park Avenue in New York City, Fred Astaire brought his immense talent out of the glamour of Hollywood and onto the dance floors of America and the world.
Meet the Manager: AJ T.
AJ started his Ballroom Dance career at the age of five. He was born in a dancing family – his dad, mother, uncle – everyone in his family was a champion ballroom dancer: “So I did not have any choice,” AJ recalls with a big smile on his face.
He became an All Ukrainian Latin and Ballroom Champion at the age of 12. Since then, he has been collecting gold medals from numerous National and International Ballroom Tournaments around the World. At the age of 21, he passed an examination to become an International Judge.
Even though AJ thinks his coaching career started too early he was 15 y.o., it allowed him to spend a lot of time learning the art of being an inspiring, knowledgeable, and patient teacher.
AJ’s real name is Alexander , but, to avoid confusion stemming from having the same name as one of our other staff members, he took the American name “AJ” Alexander Junior.
AJ is very happy to become a part of the Fred Astaire Team and is looking forward to making it even stronger.
