This course is the worst. The design has other golfers hitting into you almost every hole. Was hit by a ball because of this while on the tee box. Payson did refund me for my round because my hand was so swollen I couldn't play anymore from being hit. There is also no Marshall on the course so play moves slow. A lot of inconsiderate golfers that have zero golf experience/etiquette and hit into you without yelling four. Have had multiple bad experiences on this course and won't be back because of it. read more

We played the front nine twice during our stay in the area. The fairways are mostly wide, with a couple more challenging configurations. A nice mix of distances and obstacles. The clubhouse breezeway was a nice spot to sit for a drink and their breakfast or lunch specials. We enjoyed it very much. read more

Hosted a golf tournament here during the summer. The course was nice and green and we had a hosted buffet that was incredible. The greens and fairways have improved nicely with all of the rain. Nice place and a fair price. Oh, and the staff was very nice and helpful. Will certainly return. read more

A lot of us locals were hopeful with the ownership change. It seemed a little high priced previously, but it was the only game in town. But it was affordable for the average person. The new owners doubled the rates. Now $52 to play nine. ( cart included) They have made some landscaping improvements, but a rate comparable to Oak Creek CC is , not realistic. Last week on what should be short grass fairway I had hard pan lies between weed clumps. I would love nothing more to play here once or twice a week but I can't afford the rates. read more

I thought it was pretty good, for what it is. The pro shop was very helpful, recommended we start on 7 to avoid delays, he even talked to one foursome who let us through. Played in under 3 hours. Greens had been plugged and dressed so they weren't in the best shape last week, but that's temporary. read more

This is the worst value golf course I can imagine. I can only conclude the five star reviews are related to the owner or something. Poorly maintained fairways, pockmarked and often bald greens, piles of leaves right now (November), cart paths often don't last the hole (hence messed up fairways), mud. I know what you're thinking -- you've played shitty munis before. But for the privilege of riding around this one, you will pay SIXTY AMERICAN DOLLARS. All of this was true, then I got to holes 13-17. This must be the worst five hole stretch I've played: 13 has a corridor tee shot, flanked narrowly on the right by houses. You're going to hit it left into the woods instead. Good times. 14 is an elevated tee box where they couldn't even spring for real grass. You can see down to the flag and maybe 10 feet on either side. I hit it 15 feet away and was excited to get down there, only to find that my ball had plugged into the green. 15 all you can see from the tee is a narrow corridor for maybe the first 75 yards. I hit a perfect drive through it... and couldn't find my ball. The narrow fairway takes a sharp left with unplayable on the right and a severe right to left slope. I think it is literally physically impossible to hit this fairway -- anything that lands on it will roll left off the fairway, onto the 16th fairway if you're lucky and into a tree if you're not. The 16th fairway stops about 180 yards from the green. You have maybe 20 yards of width for the rest of the hole. Good luck! I got to the 17th tee and was relieved to see a 120 yard picturesque down and up par 3. I hit a good tee shot to 20 feet, got up to the green and... it's not an exaggeration to say this is the worst maintained green I've ever seen. Big spike damage maybe an inch high in places with divots to match. Ball marks everywhere. I picked up and called it a two putt. I can't stress enough how amazingly bad this green is. Sixty American dollars!!! Don't play this golf course. read more

Now that the course is under new ownership, it improves on a weekly basis. The grass is mowed daily, the greens are being kept up better and all of the old over growth is being removed. I play this course nearly every week and I look forward to seeing the new improvements each time. The staff is very friendly as well. I look forward to the restaurant opening and having a burger and a beer after my round. read more

The new owner is trying and the course is improving, but $10 for a medium bucket of balls and $ 60 for 18 holes is a little high for the condition of the facilities. The driving range is a mess and they are charging high prices. My friends and I can drive to Bison Golf Club and play for $15 per person less, and the course is in great condition. read more

It sure seems like there is a BIG effort to improve the condition of this course this Spring & Summer and get it into better condition - The Crew is really working hard to improve the appearance & condition. Those of us that play here year round appreciate that it is open even in the cold months & is a fun course to play. Note: All reviews before January 1st 2020 were before the new management. I am very pleased with the new management and I am just trying to show that the course has changed for the better. I recently visited this golf course and I was happy to see that the new management has been fixing up the place. The staff was super friendly and they told me about the new changes that this golf course will be receiving. There will be a new patio put in for a larger dining area and wood fired pizza will be added to the menu. Also a game room will be put in. It will become very family friendly. All the holes are recieving maintenance because of the change in management. I cannot wait to see what this golf course will look like once it is finished! I will be returning again. We pulled up and this is the dumpiest course I have ever seen. Yard outside pro shop completely overgrown which set the first impression. Next the Guy in pro shop was was totally rude and acted completed annoyed to even speak to us. The carts were antiques. We have golfed all over the country, even in some real one horse towns, but this was by far the worst. We left without paying the ridiculous $49 fee. read more

Quite possibly the worst maintained public course I have ever played. For $60 (price for 18 plus cart) I expect that the carts will not be at least 20 years old. I expect the fairways to actually be distinguishable from the rough. I know they recently aerated but even if that wasn't the case the greens were full of dead spots, unrepaired ball marks. The tee boxes were poorly maintained with divots everywhere. There was debris all over the course. Yes it stormed yesterday. But yesterday mid day. I played mid afternoon today. Have some pride. The few bunkers present didn't have actual sand. Fine gravel and were rock hard. Finally, several blind shots into no mans land and the map on the scorecard wasn't terribly useful. I really wish the other courses around Payson weren't private. Don't waste your money by drive to Scottsdale and play a real course read more

Don't golf here. The course is in terrible condition, like a cow pasture instead of a golf course, poor signage, cart path hardly visible and overpriced for the condition of the course - $52 for 2 people. This is a disgrace to the municipality of Payson, Arizona. People come to visit the Payson Golf Course and that is what they find. Does anyone care that the place is a wreck? This course is over priced but I enjoyed playing it. The front nine is easier than the back which does have a few interesting holes. A couple of the greens (I assume are brown due to the snow and freeze) had holes from elk tracks. The gentleman working the pro shop was very nice and a golfer too.
