We were certainly not disappointed! All of the tables look to be in perfect locations, beside the river and with unobstructed water views. We received great table service from our waiter, a secondary waiter and both the front of house and chef owners. We started with some incredibly delicate local scallops, roasted garlic bread, beef carpaccio with an Australian twist, and a variety of oysters. We moved onto roasted duck, local cod with lemon risotto, veal mignon. Both of the veal dishes were meant to be medium rare but one came out much more cooked, so they promptly recooked the dish and made things right. With such a small kitchen staff, I certainly understand the chance things won't go right and appreciated how quickly they fixed the issue and how open they were to remaking it. We also enjoyed their wine list, which was compiled of boutique Hunter Valley wineries rather than just the big names. The owner let us know she visits all the wineries and makes choices based on the authenticity and building partnerships in the local region, which helped create a memorable experience for us. At the end of the day, this is a beautiful restaurant without the extreme costs associated with many of the restaurants on the other side of the bay! They created a warm and inviting environment and I'd certainly visit again. We've been to several hatted and Michelin-starred restaurants and the experience was on par with those but still quintessentially Australian.

The food and service are five star and one of the most memorable fine dining experiences we have enjoyed. The three course dinner menu is plenty of food so I don't recommend any add on options. I had the home made linguini and pesto with clams which was bright and sunny and delicious. Beau had the quail which was cooked to perfection. I followed with duck that was on a bed of red cabbage with peas. Oooo la la. Somehow the marriage of those ingredients were a match made in heaven. Lastly, beau had a lamb shank in a light but complex sauce which made his eyes roll. It was served with silken whipped potatoes that I just had to participate in. We managed to squeeze in our desserts. The most memorable was a panna cotta with fresh fruit. I've never seen blackberries that huge and they were so sweet. We will be on the hunt for blackberries at a farmers market today. We made a reservation months in advance. Certainly a highlight of out Australian holiday.

In my case, my dish did use some butter - otherwise very well done. My friends ordered the bugs which were very well done with a grilled flavor. While you can order other wines - decided to sample a Pinot Gris from the connected winery Carillion wines - on the whole I consider this an excellent place for both food and view. Weather was perfect on this September weekend Worth a visit

There was a large party of 30 arriving at 7:30pm but we had moved on by then. Ramsey behind the bar was awesome and since I find most cocktails too strong he asked what I liked and made me something to match. It was fruity but most importantly sweet which I loved! Food certainly ranks higher than alcohol for me and Bar Petite has this well covered. We ordered arancini balls, sweet potato fries and spring rolls which I can't fault. They were all delicious. I'll definitely be back.

Set right on near newcastle beach it leads up to a delightful after dinner walk, and hidden away it ensues a relaxing and intimate vibe. It isn't ideal for large groups, preferably small groups of friends (3-5) looking for a great selection of wines with a tasty menu. The cheese platter is a delectable selection of seasonal treats, preparing you for a moorish and extravagant main menu. Perfect for an easy and simpler night out. Barramundi is strong recommended.
