I wanted to wait a bit to see if anything goes wrong. So far, it hasn't, so that's great. I called the number on the old heater when it was leaking and they responded very quickly for the next day. Sal, the technician came and diagnosed the problem very quickly with solutions. I asked him about the options, including tankless, and he was very knowledgeable in all of it. STAY AWAY!!! SoCal Gas was shocked at the horribly poor and unsafe installation. If I could give them ZERO stars I would. They IMPROPERLY installed a brand new water heater in May 2022 which was LEAKING GAS in a home with a 88 yr old elderly man and a 84 yr old bedbound elderly woman (my parents)! UNSAFE and UNPROFESSIONAL. SoCal Gas was shocked how they failed to tightened every joint so gas was leaking out of every joint they touched. It literally took 2-3 more turns of the joint and more cement to ensure it was properly and tightly connected. They also had to remove the door to get the water heater in and barely put it back so the nails are protruding and shows further incompetence. SoCal Gas recommended I ask them to come back and fix everything but I wouldn't trust them to do it properly a second time if they cannot do it properly the first time! read more

Not exactly cheap, but it was fair, the equipment seems well made and they also applied a few discounts, so I am quite happy with the total outcome and will most likely use them again if need be. One thing though, I would like to mention. Payless loudly advertises that they are a 24 hour service - day or night. I found this not to be so and I had to endure one whole day without hot water. I talked to the receptionist and she was very polite. They scheduled a same day appointment. They actually called back and offered an earlier appointment time, which was great. Technician Ezequiel R showed up on time. He examined the unit and gave me an explanation of what was needed and different options and price breakdowns. He was polite and did not pressure me at all. Water heater broke and started leaking late Thursday night. I called Payless at about 8:00 AM the next morning. Less than 2 hours later I get a call from Juan C. saying he'll be at my house in 20 minutes. We are in the early stages of renovating our laundry room, and we were already planning on moving the water heater to a different location, but didn't know what or where was the best place. I can't tell you how much we appreciated Juan laying out the pros and cons of tank heaters vs a tankless system, as well as giving us estimates for the different locations of putting the new heater. Unfortunately this isn't the first plumbing company we've had to hire recently, but its certainly the best. One of the things that impressed me the most was that Juan had everything he needed in his van. Whereas other repairmen had to make several trips to the hardware store to get parts, he had everything he needed to complete the job including the new water heater and other valves/accessories to bring us up to code.
