I had a very similar experience to Aaron. Our dog's simple grooming went from a BASE price of $95 to an average of $135-140 - Up 40% in less than 2 years. After years of taking our dog there we stopped after our groomer started charging us for one fictitious issue after another (matting, 'she was bad this time', 'we had to really work on her', etc.). Several times I had fully brushed the dog - no matting at all and she still upcharged me for 'matting'. But I have to say, one of the things that really set us off was that after years of grooming our dog, the groomer kept referring to our female as a he. And the groomers openly complain about not getting tipped by other customers. The independent contractor groomers are very rough around the edges - if it's not their client, they are less than pleasant. I just got the impression the ladies working there just don't like dogs or the work they do. They never give the dogs water, the cages are too small for most average size dogs. The signs in the shop just suggest customer should shut up and just pay. Regardless of instructions, the groomers do whatever they want and charge for it. This is not my idea of how to run a business. We voted with our feet and are much happier taking our dog ANYWHERE else. read more

We are never going here again. Staff and owner were extremely rude and unpleasant. The grooming was below average and the misled us specifically about what they would do. Obnoxious and overly priced. Please go elsewhere. read more

I have been bringing my dog there for 6 years. He was very nervous and cried all the time at the last groomer I brought him to. The groomer at Paws and Reflect worked with me and the dog to get him over his anxiety. He goes bounding in now, very excited to see her. He always gets a great cut and I get compliments on how good looking he is. I have always found everyone, including the owner, very pleasant. A friend told me about this place and I am so glad she did. read more

I have been bringing my dog to Paws and Reflect for about 8 years now. She has health issues and also some cysts. Hilda is always careful to check her over on drop off and always does a wonderful grooming job. Dogs are a good judge of character and Coco loves Hilda - requesting a belly rub upon arrival. Not sure what the Darien comments are all about as I live in Norwalk and am greeted in a very a friendly and respectful manner. Hilda - thanks for the special care over the years!!! read more

We have a large white standard poodle, Roxy, who gets a wash or grooming almost every week. I sometimes do the pick-up and have always been treated very well. They certainly are busy, so obviously a good sign that many folks like taking their dogs to be groomed. Very friendly staff and Roxy is always happy to go. read more

The owner is so inappropriate! First, some background: each of the groomers are independent and get paid a percent of the charges. Grooming is ok there, but not great. My dog seemed very nervous to go, so I wondered how they treated him, but didn't see any hard evidence of abuse. But, I'm not going back after a recent incident with the owner, who needs a basic lesson in customer service. I had taken my dog there for over a year and my charge was always $55-$75. One time when he was "really matted" as they said, they charged me $95, which I thought was high, but said nothing. So, this time, I drop my dog off and the groomer says, "he feels like he is in good shape" as she inspected his hair regarding matting. I suggested maybe he should be cut/trimmed to which she responded "ok, we'll take off a little." When I pick him up, he was cut VERY short! And then they have the nerve to hand me a bill for $135!!! The groomer and owner were not there, so an attendant called the owner on the phone when I question the accuracy of the bill. The owner gets on the phone with me and tells me "his base is $95 and his matting is the balance". First, the owner wasn't there. She couldn't 't see that they cut all his hair OFF! Second, I told her that his base is not $95, but that he has been between $55-$75 for the longest time. She asks the attendant to read off all of my dog's charges for the last year which indeed were $55-$75 with about 3/4 of them being $55. She gets back on phone with me and I say "I hope that you can see why I was surprised at a $135 bill". She says, "No I don't agree. The groomer spent half the day on him and your dog should have been cut." I said "Wait, he WAS cut, and I am the one who suggested a trim, and your groomer said he was in good shape." She said, "Well XYZ groomer doesn't have very good judgment on when to cut a dog or not--I'll give you that. But I am not going to take a loss on this, as I have to pay her for her time, since the groomers are all independent." I objected to that concept, and she said "Ok, here's what I am going to do. I will knock of $20, but I don't ever want to see your dog again!" I said, "WHAT?!?! You just determined that I was indeed overcharged and you are kicking me out for pointing it out?!?!" She said "Well, I don't need customers nickel and diming me!" I said, "Nickel and Diming? You are charging me 2.5x his normal rate without warning, blaming your groomer, but making me pay for her error!" Long story short, in order to get my dog which they were holding, I had to pay the full amount. No More! Learn from my lesson! read more

The owner was so pleasant on the phone and I was nervous as this was my first time to try a new groomer in 8yrs. She assured me all would be good and there was good jest over the phone. When I arrived at 8am to check both dogs in, the greeting by Hilda was extremely cold and rude, they were extremely friendly to the local Darien crowd who were checking in. I went over many times what I wanted as Hilda told me the groomer was 2 weeks with the salon (nerves), Hilda was condescending and so patronizing. I called midmorning to speak to owner and just checkin and she was nice and said it was nice to hear exactly what the owner wanted. At checkout the owner was so rude the worst manners ever, it was like a bunch of mean girls worked there. They would be super nice to the local Darien crowd but did not care that I was a new client, the deliberately made me wait, up my price because they said the smallest dog was a train wreck. I think they discriminated because I am only 37yrs old and live in Westport. Ideally if you want to provide a service to be nice and friendly to all your clients, never be mean girls or act like you are high school! The cut was good but because of the staff immature, extremely bad mannered behavior I highly recommend you NEVER ever use this salon. read more
