I am the Purple Heart veteran with the service dog that was refused service from Ben S's review. Yes, I'm aware that this is illegal and I can report him. That said, most of us dog handlers prefer to educate people rather than cause them legal trouble and this was what I attempted to do. When I tried to do this quietly and privately, he loudly told me that he was not interested. I left without pushing back or causing a scene - the last thing I wanted to do was make it more difficult for other dog teams. I did leave a business card describing ADA laws pertaining to service dogs on the table in a last attempt to make it a bit easier on the next dog handler who walks in the door. When we walked out and saw the tribute to veteran's on the sidewalk in front of the business, it really added insult to injury. I certainly didn't feel the love so I hope they do right by other veterans; maybe they only want the ones who aren't disabled to visit...

The bbq was delicious - my test is whether or not I feel compelled to sauce it and not here. The sides were also formidable. We split a 2 meat platter and it was a nice size for us to split as a small dinner. Learned about a new product while I was there - the ice cream pint coozy. Some would probably say it's designed to take a pint home on a hot day but it would also work like a beer coozy to take a pint to go;) Went back the next night to try the ice cream and were not disappointed. They're short-staffed right now so they're using commercially procured waffle cones at the moment, so I'm hoping to try a homemade one on a future visit. Note: Please be patient with them. Like everywhere else, they are short staffed and struggling to stay open. I overheard one of them tell another that she came in on her day off to fill in for a few and ended up putting in a 13-hour day. We arrived to the parking lot with luggage and had a short wait for the island ferry. Check in is at the ferry landing. You register and are provided your room number prior to boarding the ferry. The ferry attendant will assist you with luggage if needed. Once on the ferry, which is essentially a large nice Duffy type boat, you will step down a couple of steps onto the ferry. It is then a short boat ride to the island. When we docked, I noticed that this is not an accessible friendly lodge from what I could tell. You should definitely call and see if there are alternative options to walk up to the lodge. I didn't see elevators and doubt with a lodge this old there are any available. We walked several wood stair cases to get to the lodge entrance. We were then led up the stairs to the 3rd floor which is where our room was located. The room was large & clean but very old. Everything looked original, meaning several decades old. The chairs didn't have any cushions left that were not completely crushed flat. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Some of the lights were not working in the restroom. The door locks are also original and were a little difficult to work. They do provide coffee and a microwave in the room. The lodge itself is very rustic but beautiful. The grounds are lovely with yard games and paths to walk around the island and see the views. Yes, it does need updating but it is a nice. Prior to dinner we gathered in the bar where the bartender Lizzie took care of us. Lizzie was very friendly and professional. Drinks were spot on. The restaurant manager, Denise, was also wonderful. She organized seating for dinner and offered to let us choose our room and seats ahead of time which worked out perfectly for our group. Denise kept us informed during every portion of the event. We sat in the main dining room family style. There were actually 2 different rooms for 100+ people. It was a 6 course tasting menu paired with a Ballentine wine for each course. Each course was delicious and we enjoyed the wine very much. The service staff were professional and very efficient. Overall the dinner event was excellent. The next morning, you can choose the complimentary continental breakfast buffet or we found afterwards you can choose to order off the menu and pay. The breakfast buffet needed different serving options. There was a fly problem in the room which made it unappealing so we elected to skip it and had coffee. The restaurant was a bit unorganized in the morning as the coffee ran out then they ran out of coffee cups, then cream, etc. However the staff immediately responded and were very apologetic. There is no official checkout. You leave the key in the room and they send the receipt to your email. We were able to catch the first ferry back to the parking lot. The gentleman who drove the boat gave us a nice history of the island and lodge. He was very friendly and offered to take our picture. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and the harvest dinner. This past weekend during the first week of July, I had the immense pleasure and opportunity to stay…read moreat the Stout's Island Lodge for a wedding. Words and even pictures can hardly express the beauty of this 26 acre island. Surrounded by a huge lake, the island was covered in lush, green, nature with a few deer grazing and hanging around, fireflies at night (and mosquitoes of course...mosquito spray did hardly nothing to deter them lol), and the sun lighting up the sky well into the night. I had no idea what to expect and this trip has easily been one of the most memorable, fun and unique trips I've been on. The scenery is continuously breathtaking and all of the staff and people who work on the island went above and beyond with their hospitality, making sure guests were comfortable and enjoying themselves. The group I arrived with and I had luggage put on one boat and the rest of us gathered into a Duffy for a 5-10 minute ride to the island where we docked inside the big cabin, where we later played pool, ping-pong and enjoyed each others company. Our cabins were clean, with AC, and little amenities like an iron, coffee maker, hair dryer and a comfy bed to sleep in. The lake is only a few minute walk from the cabins any of us stayed in, as well as the middle area where we spent most of our time. The small dining hall provided 3 meals a day and there were so many games for us to play outside on the grass. Badminton, corn hole, footballs to toss, soccer balls, croquette and a chest filled with so much more.There was even a tennis court! There was a dock and little platform in the water you could swim out to, where many of us spent time during the hot day. They also had paddleboards and lots of towels! Some people paddled around the island too! The 2 night stay wasn't nearly enough time lol we all loved this place so much it was like summer camp for adults. Some of us wanted to make a pact that we should have other weddings here for our group because of how much fun we had together. The staff worked tirelessly, from setting up everything, serving food and keeping the drinks flowing amongst all the guests. To the girls at the bar, you ladies were amazing, the couple of blonde girls, the girl with the shorter light brown hair, especially the young lady with the beautiful, dark curly hair and stunningly bright green-blue eyes. A huge thank you to the older gentleman at the bar, one of the younger blonde guys who read our minds when we wondered where the restroom was, Ashton and the guys who drove us to and from the island. I'm so sorry for not getting all your names but just know guys rock and the wedding would not have been the same without each and every one of the staff. I will never forget ya'll.
