On our first full day in the UK (from US), we wanted an authentic English meal. After sleeping in…read morefrom the time change, we ate around 1pm. The place is very quaint. The tables downstairs are a little too close for my liking. We went upstairs and found a cute window table, overlooking the alley below. We started with a pot of tea and debated the large menu for a while. I opted for the Caspian breakfast and my husband ordered the pork pie with a side of chips (fries). The presentation on both was great. I wanted to love the food, but it was just okay. The Caspian breakfast was a waffle with sweet cream cheese, topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs, caviar eggs and sliced avocado. The waffle and poached egg were cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the sweet cream cheese and ended up taking that off. The avocado looked pretty, but tasted underripe. It also came with toast. My husbands pork pie was okay. It tasted like a summer sausage in a flaky pastry. It came with a side salad with Stilton cheese and walnuts, which was also just okay. The server was very friendly and prices were reasonable. If I lived here, I would definitely try again, but I would order different foods.

As a foreigner when you think of an English breakfast or brunch experience what often comes to mind…read moreis the fairy tale inspired tea and toast enjoyed in a quaint bed and breakfast, and unfortunately this dream is often shattered when you realize that Starbucks, Cafe Nero, and Pret have more or less taken over the wonderful world of breakfast. Fear not - Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms has preserved the traditional quaintness of a B&B in a way that caters to anyone and everyone, and it's absolutely excellent. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Tucked away in a side alley, the location of Mrs. Bridges is as much a landmark as anything in Leicester, and once you step inside you'll understand why. The most comfortable of settings includes various tea rooms on two levels as well as an outdoor seating area that I was able to enjoy on what was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. It was crowded at 1030, but I was still able to have a seat right away and service didn't lag. I can't stress enough how fantastic the atmosphere at Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms is, and loved that even school age children seemed to really enjoy and appreciate it along with the expected adult crowd. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? £6.50 is a beautiful price for French toast with bacon and maple syrup with a pot of tea for an additional £1.85. As you can see in the picture my portion was hearty and I was more than satisfied at the end of the day with what would have easily cost me £12 in London. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'm not entirely sure whether the atmosphere or the fact that it was a beautiful day just made everything taste better, but my french toast was amazing even while being as simple as can be. There was nothing fancy here but there didn't need to be, and I noticed as I was sitting down that a steady stream of people were coming in for sandwiches to go that everyone was raving about (and kudos for having special sandwiches that rotate). There are some meals that you really can't even put a finger on with respect to what makes it so good, and this was one of those meals. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Mrs. Bridges Tea Rooms is a well known Leicester establishment whose appeal could possibly be bottled and expanded, but for now it's a brilliant gem in the center of England that I'd gladly visit daily. Star Granted.

Breakfast time... Starving.. Rememberd this place from a friend posting something. So we checked it…read moreout! I got the eggs Benedict. It was nice. And bagel topped with bacon (fatty bacon) then a perfectly poached egg but the hollindase sauce was too thick in my opinion. It came with 2 hash browns on the side which were nice. Ah decent breakfast but wouldn't get it again. I'd go for a regular one. Now... Where do I start! Himself was starving. Or so he thought. Well. Eyes bigger then his belly he saw the 666 challenge. My god. I tried to be the logical one but no! He was having none of it. So off he went.. Ordering his 666 challenge breakfast. 6 of everything- toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns and pancakes which resembled more like donuts oh and loads of maple syrup. Ugh. As soon as it came out he knew he couldn't do it. But off he started. (I think this huge 2 platefuls put me off my breakfast aswell) Needless to say he didnt come close to finishing it! So no free breakfast, 15 pound down and no T-shirt plus a disappointed other half and a smug girlfriend that knew she was right. We left feeling full and we'll that was it. Full. Would probably go back for a 'normal' breakfast. But not sure he would face the shame.

There is also choices of bacon, tomatoes, etc. The chicken pieces were huge but tasted plain which was a bit of shame. I couldn't finish them & left quite a few pieces. The omelette came with salad & chips. The omelette was 5 pounds plus whatever filling you decide to add which was good value for money. I wish they had chopped chicken into small pieces with more flavour. My friend had a veggie breakfast which seemed nice. It's a nice place to meet friends for lunch near university & cheapish. There are residential areas nearby to park your car for free, so it might be a good choice to meet friends for food rather than city centre.

This review is for the restaurant, not the deli counter…read more Came here for breakfast but ended up having lunch instead, I feel like three stars is maybe a little less than it really deserves, but four is a bit more than I want to give. I hope to go back and get the opportunity to pump it up. I got the bacon and brie sandwich with the red onion marmalade, which was good but somehow a bit blander than I expected, the bread I had wanted had run out so maybe that was it. My boyfriend's turkey sandwich looked delicious so next time I'll go for a non-toasted sandwich so I can really taste their fresh bread. I'd probably have rounded up to 4 stars if the chips had been better, but I found them a bit dry, closer to what I'm used to calling potato wedges.

The ingredients used all seemed to be very fresh and they served "proper chips" which was lovely. The staff were, for the most part, incredibly friendly and helpful. One of my vegetarian friends was accidentally served a sandwich with ham in it: she let the staff know as they brought it to us and it was immediately taken away and replaced with the correct sandwich. I ordered the smoked chicken and bacon toasted ciabatta which also had red leicester cheese used in it which I thought was a lovely touch. It was quite strong flavour-wise though so I had to keep refreshing my palate with beverages. The one issue we did have was with getting tap water. We asked a passing waitress if we could have some tap waters and she advised that it would be a while as they were very busy. We waited for a fair amount of time before asking a different waitress, who advised us that we needed to order them at the counter. Once we'd queued up and ordered at the counter they arrived quite promptly, but this miscommunication had left us waiting for quite a while and my sandwich had become cold in this time. Keep this in mind when ordering drinks! All in all, good quality food with decent portion sizes and fair pricing. Would happily go again if passing through Leicester.
