Sure they're nice but they're terrible at fixing guitars. They were able to give my Ibanez a standard setup and replace one of the pickups no problem but when I brought my bass in, they did basically nothing to fix it. I asked them to see if they could fix the buzzing that was happening every time I played it and fix both of the knobs which would just spin around and do nothing. When I got it back the buzz was almost worse and one of the knobs completely just screwed off (wasn't doing that before) would not recommend this place if you're wanting more than just a set up. Took a Farfisa Compact to them to sell. It needed some minor repairs that we made note of on intake. They sent if off to their "Fix It Guy", who wanted more than the value of the instrument to fix it. Months later after declining the deal I finally got my keyboard back. Parts had been stripped out of it and it was in way worse shape than when it was brought in. The Piezo Transducers ( a rare part) that drive the reverb, which was working when I brought it in were gone. Too bad they always seemed very nice when I went in the store. A bit overpriced, but supporting a retail operation justifies that, and the cool equipment they usually have. But after this crap, no way! Would never deal with them in anyway ever again. read more

A true Kensington Market vibe here. For musicians, by musicians. Website is updated frequently but stop in to see what items have arrived. Prices are completely fair and I use their Service Department for repairs to my tube gear. Not a shyster in sight. Good people. read more

My go to guitar store. Pros: They always have a great selection of rare and interesting guitars and well priced used pedals. I can't count how many cool pedals i've managed to find at Pauls Boutique and their guitars are always a treat. Cons: Store is a bit crammed so trying out guitars might not be the best idea, although they are pretty accommodating. _______________________ I brought my guitar for a set up / neck adjustment / repair. They did a great job ! Especially given the crappy guitar I brought over and it was for a very good price as well, much better than I would have gotten if I took it to Long and Mcquade. Only downside was having to wait 3 weeks to get it back. I pretty much called every weekend asking for an update so they must have gotten annoyed at me lol, the owner did not seem happy to see me. Good selection of various instruments and decent fair prices. I've sold and bought stuff here, no problems. Mostly vintage stuff, so may not be the go to place to get your everyday basic needs. read more

The shop is alright for what it is - essentially a pawn shop for musical equipment. The selection is decent, however the shop is extremely small. All the guitars are hung up relatively high which aren't accessible to the customer to try out. It's difficult to navigate the shop due to the size. read more

Great for rare finds and other goodies. Keep your eye on their website because the stuff sells really fast ! If you're lucky they have a killer selection of guitars and amps. They also stock pedals that come in all shapes and sizes. Only thing is that the prices can be a little wacky. Sometimes it's a deal and other times they seem to be priced way too high. Then again, stuff is always selling so who knows ! read more

Total "High Fidelity" moment today at Paul's Boutique. I've been shopping there since they first opened with some Dan Electros hanging in the window and not much else. So sorry to see success has ruined the place. One expects some "attitude" in music stores but the staff here are over the top. The gentleman behind the counter literally was rolling his eyes and shrugging his shoulders and repeating every one of my questions back to me like I was an idiot. I brought in a guitar for set up. The invoice he produced had no price written on it, he did not mention what strings they would use, how much they charged for the setup etc. He banged the instrument on the counter while tagging it, and when I asked about the three delay pedals on display he stared off into space, shrugged his shoulders and said they had "not much happening" Example Me: "Oh, I see you have a Maxxon AD 939 delay, tell me about it?" Him: "it's a Maxxon AD 939 delay" ...shrug, rolling of eyes Me: "Tell me about this Mooer analog delay." Him: " it's a analog delay made by Mooer", shrug, rolling of eyes I'm 52 years old and have been playing music longer than this gentleman has been alive. Worst customer service in a music store I've ever experienced. I walked out with the half-ass invoice, thought about it for a few moments and went back in and pulled the instrument. God knows if the front of the house is this brainless no telling what kind of talent they have working downstairs. Paul's Boutique lost the gig for the guitar set up, the bass set up I was prepared to do next week, and they lost the sale on the pedal because of this employees terrible attitude. Note to owner. FIRE THIS CHUMP and hire people who respect musicians or at the very least have some interest in their jobs. I live a stones throw away from the store and I can assure the owner I will tell every single musician I know in the Market about the experience. A waste of time. Go to "Capsule" on Queen, at least you will be afforded a degree of respect, a touch of enthusiasm, and prompt and informative answers to your questions. Sad to see what was once such a nice shop being managed by employees who couldn't try any harder to be disrespectful. If the owner is interested, you want to get rid of the dude working the front of the store on March 25, he's lazy, careless, and indifferent... Good luck. read more
