I would give more for the previous student, Amy she was very nice. However... Today was a different experience T-Total lack of even acknowledging a person in the chair E-Egotisitical tired "tatted"up student complaining about everything R-Rude, need I say more R-Rip off I-Inconsiderate of my time and just again complained about the type of hair cut, a simple Bob, her flight did not come in until 2 am, her boss forced to take 1 pm appointment, bad attitude 100 percent half ass lack luster student L-Lousy service and even lousier interpretation bc I said to stop the hair cut bc she she hated doing it that she was then being harassed, playing victim. The school is a cool place to go to, the students are very nice and polite and the mentors are there to start you off and to give the students pointers but are busy with helping others. It'll probably be you and the student mostly. I wanted a pixie cut and a nice mellow peach color. I was advised the whole process of cut and color would be 120 dollars (after everything it ended up being 95 dollars or so), for all of that I was expecting more so this was nice. The student that cut my hair was very perky and nice and was easy to talk to! We started off with the cut, my hair is kinky curly and was about shoulder length at the time. She used her shears to lop off most of my hair before going in with an electric trimmer all over the head. I am no beautician but all off the videos on YouTube mostly had the top part of the head separated and trimmed the back of the head for a pixie. I know my hair type isn't what's usually taught in the school so that was probably a factor. I was expecting her to style it after the color but it never came, she was going to put some gel in my hair and let me go. After I requested finger waves a different mentor came over and failed because my hair is too curly and the foam they have doesn't hold enough. I decided to sit under the dryer and leave after. Moving on to the lightening process, the mentor came and a few curious women came to comment on the new cut saying I was getting a 'Big Chop'. No I was supposed to get a pixie, my hair was now like a teeny lopsided Afro. We began with the bleach and it went well! My hair lightened fast and she applied the product evenly throughout the head. She let it sit for about 40 minutes maybe even less. Washed it out and started with the color. When she applied the color throughout the hair it was more of a coral pink color than the peach that I wanted, however it dries a bit lighter but even still I would say it was a light electric coral. Everyone in the school was complimenting her on it and honestly I like the color too! The shaved head just didn't match the awesome color. Overall I would say my experience was positive and pleasant with a quick turnaround. I think the students here are more experienced in longer length hair, if I had gotten a bob cut I'm positive it would have come out really cute. Long story short if you're looking for perfection to the vision you imagined then this salon isn't it, this is a teaching school and everyone is just winging it with the skills they were taught and have. Ok, so I'm not usually a person who leaves reviews like this but I had my hair highlighted and toned by Madison last night and let me tell you, she's amazing. I'm a natural strawberry blonde and my hair will turn even the ashiest colors red tinged. I have for years wanted a sort of lighter, brighter highlighted blonde while still being warm but even after countless tries with stylists it has never turned out the way I wanted. Enter Madison! She expertly threading through my hair to place the highlights and found a toner that made it expertly blend with my hair and I couldn't be happier. She also after failed attempts for me gave me beautiful curtain bangs that would put Stevie Nicks to shame (of course I don't mean that; Stevie Nicks is perfect) I was so happy with everything and the price was absolutely unbelievable. 15/10 would recommend! read more

My daughter was trying to go to Beauty school there and we had been working on it for 3 months. The 1 admissions person wouldn't get back to us and then didn't show for an appointment we set up 20 days in advance. They couldn't give me anyone to contact to voice my concerns. There is absolutely no place on the web site to leave any feedback. When you call you just keep hitting a wall. It doesn't look like they want to have any one enroll in their program. My daughter is so frustrated she is looking elsewhere, another career even. Very disappointing!! read more

I so badly want to leave 5 stars because the people there were awesome, but my experience otherwise fell short of that. Being one of the first appointments at 9:30, I was warmly welcomed by the lovely ladies up front. My stylist came to grab me after about 7-10 minutes of waiting or so, which is totally fine because that gave me the chance to peruse through some of the cool hair products up front. My (first) stylist came to get me. I was ecstatic to be sitting in a salon chair again. I told her about how it had been years since I got my hair done and how excited I was - she replied with a dull smile and started to read through the questionnaire. We slightly talked about what I was wanting done, my hair texture, length, etc. I went on about how I wanted more dimension in my hair with lowlights and we agreed on brightening some of my blonde, as well. Whom I assume to be the trainer came over and confirmed what we were doing. My stylist (who I will not be naming) came back with a swatch book and told me to choose. I tried to ask some questions regarding the color but never got more than a one word response. I tried to ask and make sure that the color I was choosing was going to come out "dark" enough for my hair color and she said yes. Another student, Bryan, came over so he could help my stylist double team my hair - totally fine. After about two foils my main stylist was gone, nowhere to be found. I later on found out she was not feeling well, which is understandable. I had actually been watching Bryan beforehand and was pleased with what I saw. Anyway, Bryan took over and worked on my hair until 11 (he had prior arrangements) and had gotten about 1/2 of my foils done. I was then introduced to Emma. Emma was sweet and continued with the rest of the foils. She finish with the foils and was at about 1:00 pm. My only complaint is that before I was even able to tell her how I wanted my hair cut Emma had already decided that we were doing a dry cut. I was a little disappointed, only because my hair is long and fine and does not respond well with dry cuts. Originally, for my cut I had wanted to do more than what i settled for due to this. We were then interrupted by a coordinator letting us know that Emma's next appointment had arrived. I was then passed on to a phase 2 student who volunteered to take over - she looked cool so I was fine with it. For the life of me, I cannot remember the phase 2 stylist's name. As she picked up where Emma left off on drying my hair she started to compliment my color, along with some of the other stylists around me. I, however, was not as pleased as they were and conveyed that to them. I was assured it was only the "salon lighting." I mentioned more than once throughout the styling and cutting of my hair that I wasn't particularly happy with the way the color turned out (no lowlights were visible). It only looked like I brightened my blonde. Cut and style came out wonderful though! Thank you phase 2 student! Anyway, a picture of my hair was taken outside afterward which did show a completely different color than what I saw in the mirror and was pleased after that. However, when I got home I had my friend take another picture of my hair and again found myself dissatisfied with the lack of lowlights. Honestly, I sat with so many people that I didn't even know who to tip, so i tipped all of them a little from what i would have tipped 1 stylist. I had been planning on buying a few products up front, but since I was disappointed in the color I changed my mind. Look, overall I loved the people that worked on me. I had awesome conversations with everyone, even stylists that weren't working on me. I just wish my color came through like my original stylist said it would. Would love to come back for a correction and then hopefully continue using this place afterwards! read more

Liked my hair waaaaay better before my appointment. If you have a decently easy request you're probably fine, otherwise I would spend a little more to go to a regular salon. My hair was absolutely terrible. It was super brassy, splotchy and had a dark line around the crown of my head. After a second student attempted to salvage it, and a total of 6 hours later, they still charged me 50 bucks after my groupon. I ended up spending 110 bucks the next day on a color correction. I went here to save money but it ended up costing me a lot more to undo it. I rarely ever write reviews but I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else! read more

I know this is a school and I'd love to cut them some slack. I attended and worked at a cosmetology school myself and I know how hard the students work. It's impossible to support them, however, when the administration and educators are not giving them the support they need. I've been twice now and twice and educator has missed a glaring problem- once was an extremely crooked cut and the second time it was roots about two shades lighter than my hair. I could see it. I know she did too but she insisted that it looked perfect. After being there for over three hours for all over color, I didn't have the energy to argue. The educators seem to be there as a formality since I see very little educating going on. I have seen them send students out to get them food both times I was there. The building is falling apart. The floor tiles are cracked and discolored. The shampoo bowls are downright disgusting. I'm not sure how this salon would pass a state board inspection. Saving money is not worth the price of the corrective service you'll need after getting your hair done here. Do yourself a favor and avoid it completely. read more

I have gone here for cosmetology school as well as had several people from here do my hair. The students are wonderful people and great stylists. They know that if they need help they will ask a learning leader and help you get the hair you want. They are students so if you have a bad experience then go try another one of the students. The atmosphere is fantastic and I can't wait for them to be in the new school! I highly recommend going here for services as well as if you want to be a cosmetologist. read more

Long review: I got my hair done there right before Christmas with a phase 2 student. It was supposed to be an asymmetrical long bob, along with a fresh color. The color turned out great, but the cut was a different story. I didn't notice the cut until two days after. Why? Because they are into curling hair with the flat iron. You are unable to see the imperfections and just flat out horrible cut that they give. The back of my hair was so uneven that I wish I could attach a picture to show how bad it was, but I am unable to do it on this review. I was also missing a two CHUNKS out of the back of my hair. I guess it was supposed to be a layer...but...umm...it was a terrible excuse for a layer and there were no other layers present throughout the rest of my hair. Unfortunately I couldn't fix it myself. I couldn't make it look good. I had to hide my hair with scarves. I discovered all of this about 1-2 days after the appointment (Christmas Eve) when I was at home getting ready for a party because I had straightened my hair. I contacted the school and they wanted to reschedule me for another haircut that I wouldn't have to pay for with a phase 2 student since they were their "honors" students. A phase 2 student did this to my hair... While I did reschedule, the longer that I thought about it, the more uncomfortable I became with the idea. I decided to cancel my appointment because I was extremely nervous and was afraid that they would mess up my hair again. I ended up going to see someone else and had my hair fixed and they had to cut an additional 1.5 inches off my hair. He said whoever cut my hair "really screwed it up" and did a "horrible job with no understanding of what he/she was doing." I went because I believe in school instruction and people learning from experiences, but I don't believe that these students are learning in the right way. I have been to this school twice now, and both times there have been issues with the cuts. The colors are always fantastic. The instructors have only checked in twice, in the beginning of the appointment to see what the student will be doing and then again while the color is happening. (The first time the instructor only came by once in the beginning!) There is never a time where the instructor has come to check off the cut and see the finished product. For this being a school, I think it is imperative that the instructors CHECK OFF THE CHECK. Look at the finished product before any styling happens. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to see the instructor standing around just talking, instead of walking around, spot checking the work, guiding the students, helping out and being that person to help them. This shouldn't be happening in a school. I have been to other Paul Mitchell schools, and the instructors came by and helped round out the finished product. Made sure it was cut like it was supposed to be, made sure there were no errors, fixed anything etc. I unfortunately will never be returning because of these experiences, but wish you all the best. I also wish that you would fix the structure of how you run the salon when clients are present. read more

I went to the Roanoke school yesterday. The student cut my hair 6 inches more than agreed. I gave very specific instructions on the cut I wanted. She did the exact opposite. The instructor didn't care or acknowledge the errors. No attempt to treat me with any respect. Very ugly hair style on me now. . read more
