For a while, I've been looking for a 7/8 student cello of good quality. They seem to be quite hard…read moreto come by (especially at a decent price), even on the Rue de Rome, unless you're looking for an older instrument that would cost a great deal more. I struck lucky at Yan Ullern. Immediately the staff were very welcoming and friendly (I remembered this from when I first went into their shop when looking for a cello for hire several months ago). They had one on offer, which I tried and immediately fell in love with. The bonus was that I was expecting it to be a lot more expensive than what they were asking for! They gave me some advice on bows too, and seemed very open to hearing what I thought of the instrument and bows, regardless of my standard (I'm a beginner). Today I decided to buy the instrument, having returned with a professional cellist friend, who was very impressed at the quality of the instrument, and said that for the price was absolutely worth it. They were kind enough to give me a reduction on the overall price, considering I was buying a cello, bow and case from them. They also were very happy about me paying them a deposit to reserve the cello so that I can pick it up at a later date after the Christmas holidays. They even let me use their phone to call my father in England to organise payment! So far, I'm very pleased with the service and expertise at Yan Ullern. They are friendly and helpful, offering a wide range of advice, without being at all pretentious! I feel in security having bought an instrument from them and am extremely pleased with the new instrument.

He let him play a variety of guitars from student to top level luthier made guitars. They offered us coffee and water and made us comfortable while he played for quite a while to make the perfect match. Seems like a gem of a shop to me. If I heard correctly, they close for the month of August to actually tour and play in Brazil, so make sure you check hours or call ahead if you will be in Paris during that part of the summer.
