I have plenty of horror stories from when I first moved down to Orlando and I didn't want to repeat that sad chapter in my life. Luckily, a friend came to the rescue and recommended Anna at Bella Mia. Bella Mia is located on the back side of the Maitland Exchange, just past the Publix Plaza on 17/92 in Maitland. It's a lovely salon, filled with some very nice people. Anna has been cutting my hair for 8 months now and I couldn't be happier. Anna listens, makes recommendations and is a total doll. She has shaped up my hair and it's happier than ever. LOVE Anna!!! Plan on booking 2-3 weeks out, as she fills up and so do the other stylists. I've seen some great looking cuts and coloring services leave that salon. If you are looking for some fun services, like Hair Bling, check them out! (Shiny stuff tied into your hair, lasts a few days or a few months depending on your hair). They have 'Nole, Gator, UCF, Magic and Bucs colors, plus some fun colors like Purple. Walking into the new salon was quite different than anything I've ever seen before. Throughout the building are multiply sectioned off areas, mini salons if you will, for each stylist. Some sections may only have one stylist and some two or three. So the spaces are really designed for the owners/stylists needs. The entire space feels open and airy and many of the rooms have HUGE ceiling to floor glass windows which bring in a ton of sunlight. While I was there, stylist would come into JR's salon and chat it up, share stories, or even find out what products they were using. I felt there was a mutual respect for other stylists talents as well as a sense of camaraderie between each of them. I think a salon space like this has its perks. For example, JR does not do eye brow waxing, but there are other mini salons inside iStudios that do. So I could easily go from a hair appt to an eye brow waxing at another salon while never leaving the building. If I felt a bit friskier, I did meet someone there that also does spray tanning in their salon. If you are in the area and are in the need of a "new" salon, you should definitely check it out.

So here's the thing- I was initially nervous about getting extensions because I had heard horror stories about how they thin your natural hair. Enter: Megan: My long-time hair color fairy and the guardian of my hair (lol). Knowing she'd never steer me wrong, when I expressed interest in extensions, I was confident my hair underneath would be fine. 1.5 years later and I just recently took the extensions out for a summer break (your girl runs hot!) and I am so impressed by the state of my scalp and hair now. Not only has my amount of hair not diminished, I even feel like it's much healthier than before the extensions. I would think this is due to expert installation as well as the fact that the extensions lengthened the time between washes (my fine hair used to get so weighed down and greasy, so I used to have to wash very often, and the extensions prolonged the volume). I will definitely be doing extensions again, especially now that I know that I can easily get them installed and take breaks as needed. Megan was also able to help me extend the life of my extensions with education on how to care for them, so I still have them in a bag for when I go back to long, voluminous, vavavoom hair. Once again- no one is allowed to touch my hair with color or extensions unless their name is Megan Essig. Previous review: 5 Stars for extensions that perfectly match my hair and have changed my whole hair routine! It's been 8 months now of having extensions by Megan and I could not be happier. She is an absolute expert at color matching and she helps you buy the extensions directly from the supplier (no upcharging here!) from there the install is totally painless and flawless. I surprise people constantly when I let them know I have extensions because it looks like my real hair and the roots don't stick out prominently. The best part? I thought this would add to my hair care routine time, but on the contrary- I can go longer between washes and styling because it holds the style so well and doesn't get greasy. So now my natural hair is healthier. Truly wild because of the things I've heard from others about what extensions did to their hair. I think it's a testament to the way she installs them and the care that's taken.
