What has prompted this review is their mouth watering and delicious rhubarb and custard macaroons that I only discovered last week.....so good that they drew me back every day without fail! If you're a newbie to the French Oven it can be difficult to peruse their selection as it does get pretty busy along the counter but the staff are always more than happy to help and the queue is a reflection of the high quality and fresh food on offer. They also deliver if you want time to consider your order online or buy in bulk. I would highly recommend their macaroons as they are by far the best I've tasted outside of Paris itself! I also tend to favour the sourdough bread or focaccia - so flavoursome and light. Although not a frequent pasty fiend I have sampled their chilli con carne pasty when I was looking for convenience food and it was very tasty although perhaps could have had a bit more filling. Nonetheless I have yet to be disappointed by anything from this little treasure of a bakery.

As you would really, it being a bread shop :-) Anyway, the lady behind the counter was very helpful, and described the bread that was on the back shelves, and I selected a mixed grain. Sitting infont of her on the counter was an interesting dark brown round loaf, with some bright pink bits showing through. She said it was Prawn and something!!! I nearly choked! She said "It's been really popular today and this is the only one left!" I decided I may need to gird my loins a bit more before delving into the dark art of baking to that extreme. I asked if she had a list of the bread they do, and she handed me a Qype card! Whoo hoo for promoting Qype! Not so hot on getting me more info on produce sadly. Maybe a blackboard somewhere with "FreshToday" written on it and a list of bread and cakes available as well as the specials of the day would be very useful I feel. The bread was lovely!

I have been getting the meals from Delicious Dinners for my 77 year old Mother for the past two years and have nothing put praise for Ruth (the owner who I have got to know over those two years). Her Company has never failed to deliver quality hot meals to my mother, even in the heavy snow and my mother loves the meals she gets. This service has been invaluable to me as I work shifts 6 days a week and without Ruth and her Company would have struggled to get my mother a meal. I know that Ruth works hard and has a lot of customers, so this kind of nonsense is an unfair attack on her and her staff. Keep up the good work Delicious Dinners and don't listen to the Mancs. We in Sunderland think your great and in the end that's all that really counts. Their vegan beetroot cake was moist and wonderful, and had me searching the internet in vain for a recipe to try to replicate it. I should really just buy it from Sugar Down and not bother trying! My fiancé's favorite is the Crack Pie. I honestly don't know what's in it besides sugary buttery goodness as he ate it all yesterday, so didn't get a taste! But he's had it twice now and loves it. We also got a wonderful peanut butter brownie which was chocolatey rich and had a big yummy swirl of peanut butter running throughout. Fantastic place to get a quick, cheap treat. A million times better than something you could buy at the grocery store, so don't even bother - just come here!
