Although appreciative of this organization, I don't understand how a trash can that is clearly labed as donation is not available to a vetern/military etc. There are pallets of trash cans on the top shelf and I was told they are off limits, excuse me for thinking that I as a veteran can ask for a trash can at a organization that states serves the military and veterans. I'm wondering if you tell your donors that these trash cans are off limits to military and veterans. Help me understand please, thank you. read more

For Military Veterans- Patriots and Paws is a treasure literally! They serve those that served and now need assistance attaining household items as well as items for pets. Many items are used yet still valuable to those that don't have. Everything from refrigerators to chairs dishes and pantry items. For your furry friends they have leashes, collars, cat and dog food and more. Although they serve all vets in So Cal, they can only pick up donations in Orange County. If you are able and willing they need volunteers whenever possible. If you are a veteran in need just bring your veteran ID or DD214 and valid ID to receive goods. read more

A live person answered their phone, they asked what I wanted to donate, scheduled an appointment for pick up and on the scheduled day right on time a large truck pulled up to my garage , picked up the items gave me a tax receipt and done!! A few years ago now. Needed furniture for a place ai was moving in to. Their service to active duty military and veterans is beyond a gift. Was able to get three stool chairs a couch coffee table end table and dresser for my bedroom and a few kitchen items all valued at a great price, NUTHIN! Ai am humbled appreciative and give thanks and gratitude for what they were able to do for me. Wonderful place to volunteer, they support active duty and veteran families with used or new donated to assist Veterans getting a start or starting over. Working with Penny is such a calming experience although you might be busy from arriving until closing. Whether you are learning to destroy an unusable sofa, or helping to unload a truck of donations which just arrived. If you happen to go there, give Penny my love! read more

I had the absolute pleasure of going today after making an appointment to get a very much needed dining table, chairs, and pet cage. At first, we couldn't find a dining table that would work, but the wonderful volunteers kept looking and lo! They found a table just right for my home. We even found matching chairs, AND someone had donated a large dog cage right before we came. It was a kismet and a blessing. I am a disabled veteran. And when I applied to patriots and paws, I had a place, and I just needed to sign the lease, and move in. So I lost my $1800 deposit and I'm still homeless. When I talked to Patriots and Paws there was no stigma associated with my military service of 20 years, and my homelessness. They treated me with remarkable kindness and compassion. Thank goodness for the other reviews on here because I knew what bad service I was most likely going to get when contacting patriots and paws. I reached out to them because people on a FB group recommended them to donate because they help veterans and Goodwill has been so ridiculous with their pricing lately. I read some reviews and decided to send a photo of my furniture to make sure they'd accept before trying to schedule a pickup rather than being disappointed day of when the driver declines the donation. I was rather nice, explained why I'm donating, included pictures, included my availability, all the info and a nice little outro to receive "based on your photo, we would not accept this donation"...... ‍ really!? No hi? No customer service skills? No "thanks for your inquiry but..."? No mention of who is even responding to my message to make it personable? No reason as to what about it is being rejected? Literally nothing from this organization. It's fine that they didn't want the furniture but the response (or lack thereof) was disappointing that if anyone is thinking of donating, I would highly discourage. And I will definitely be mentioning this in the FB group that recommended them. read more

I have dontated to Patriots and Paws several times over about 7 years, and I will continue to do so. Sometimes I request pick up, sometimes I drop off. This is a wonderful organization started, maintained by basically ONE PERSON. Understand that this is 100% run by volunteers and they are very busy, so don't expect a red carpet rolled out because you think you're doing them a favor by donating. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE Everything you need to know about donating items is on the website. This is not a "get rid of unsold garage sale stuff" dumping place. Our veterans have EARNED AND DESERVE to have good quality items for their home. I don't think that's too much to ask. Patriots and Paws have a right to be picky about what they accept because everything is done by volunteers. They don't have time to sort out junk that you want to get rid of. If you call for pick up, plan to wait about a month. Itemize EVERY item because they basically have to make sure they have room in the truck. Please be a part of the efficient process to help things run smoothly. READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE. All the posters complaining about a rude woman....I'd like to see you acomplish and maintain what she has done for YEARS. I recommend Patriots and Paws to all of my Soldiers, especially the ones that are welcoming new children or pets. They came to my installation and I was able to get a brand new dryer for free, which was amazing because I had gone through three used dryers previously that did not work. My dryer worked perfect for the next three years I was stationed there and I recently gave it to one of my Soldiers when I PCS'd who could not afford an expensive new or used one. This organization has a great mission and I hope they continue traveling to installations because it makes it even easier for Soldiers who do not have transportation of their own. read more

Patriots & Paws is the triple crown winner of thrift stores.  Why?   1) They help military veterans and active reservists furnish their homes.   2) They rescue animals and give them to military veterans and active reservists..."give" as in "free".  This is a win-win equation since animals are saved from shelters and homed while recipients get matched with an emotional support animal.   3) They pick up donations from your house and you don't have to be there. I Ike that they help service members and also the animals! They picked up a clean bed which is hard to find a place that will and for free! This charity picks up furniture but lets the driver decide what's worth picking up I've been cleaning my folks house, they had nice things but when the truck arrived, they wouldn't pick up the bedroom set or the working technics organ. There aren't many charities that pick up but maybe contact an organization that doesn't have the driver decide that a chest of drawers is an armoire I would not call them or recommend read more

Scheduled a pick up online. Allow a few weeks or more for pick up as they are super busy and cover a wide area. Make sure to include every item you want picked up . This place in Orange County is for U.S. Veterans only who are in need of home furnishings. Also it's for people who would like to donate any home furnishings or anything needed in a home to a Veteran. The people who run this program are diligent and validate each Veteran who receives their goods. Many of the workers their are people fulfilling their community service requirements. It gives them a chance to see Veterans in need and share the experience of giving back. If there was a 6th Star I'd give it to them. read more

I love knowing this organization helps our vets but they need someone with less "attitude" to answer phones. I spoke to Penny... would this be the founder/CEO??? #1 I called about donating some items... it was Wednesday & I thought they were closed (thinking I might get automated system or maybe leave message). So, Penny answers the phone, I said "I thought you were closed today." She said we're closed to the public (very curt)!! If it's a bother to answer the phone, let it ring!! So I proceeded to ask about items I had to donate.. she gave me the run down & I'm sorry what I had they can't use (kid's clothes, toys, books, Cd's).. I thought they sold items this to make money for their organization. My mistake, I should have read the complete list on their website. #2 Their website shows charity golf tournament on July 13th @ Tustin Ranch.... I sent e-mail: Do you need volunteers? I'm an avid golfer & I've personally ran a charity tournament @ Yorba Linda Country Club... I have people interested in volunteering, I will be signing up to play. Dorie R. So when we're done with donating items discussion, I mentioned the golf tournament & before I could finish, she said the date changed, we don't have a new date yet. I told her I sent an e-mail about volunteers & also signing up to play. She said "we don't have a new date so I didn't reply." Common business etiquette would be reply & at least indicate date change, check website for updates. Oh yea, NOT "THANK YOU" for the offer to help out with volunteers!!! I use to refer them to people who asked about donating.. NEVER AGAIN! You don't get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression!! read more

Once I learned of this wonderful organization I go out of my way to collect items from others that are giving away. This way I can make sure all the things go to PATRIOTS AND PAWS. Finding an organization that gives free to our veterans melts my heart. Giving help also to animals is a great thing for our military. They are very busy so at times you have to wait for a pickup but it is all work while because of the good they do. Always the drivers are kind, helpful, and very positive as well. I recently made a donation to Patriots and Paws. The staff showed up right on schedule. At the time, every other charity like Salvation Army and Good will refused to do pick ups, because of COVID-19. The furniture was in too good of a condition to simply throw out. I would recommend this charity and I would donate again. I provide a monetary donation, when they arrived. read more

I was shocked at the rude attitude by the woman at the gate this morning as my husband and I tried to donate some goods. My grandmother was recently released from the hospital and received a brand new wheel chair as well as a brand new shower chair. She already had these items so I took the new ones home. My husband, a combat vet suggested we donate to Patriots and Paws. We figured a disabled vet could certainly use these items. We have donated large items here before. Sure I could have sold on Offer Up or Next door or dropped off close to home at Goodwill but we have a special place in our hearts for disabled vets. We drove about 25 minutes to Patriots and Paws to donate the items. My bad for assuming they would accept these items, I should have checked first. As we got out of our vehicle I asked my husband to speak with the woman who I am assuming is the owner. I heard her say something about not accepting medical supplies as I was getting items out of the car. When I asked further she said "we don't accept...but I'll take it." I wanted her to know I wasn't just trying to dump off some dirty junk off so I proceeded to tell her the items were brand new and we just assumed there would be someone who would need it. I wasn't trying to be rude but hoped she would be happier to take the items knowing they were brand new. She snapped at me "I'm not arguing with you! I said I'd take them!" I could not believe the tone of this lady as she said she was going to get the receipt." I was speechless and decided I would leave the shower chair and we got back into our vehicle without leaving the other items and left. Keep the receipt ma'am. I decided to not burden her with anything extra. There is a company who will pick up medical items from your home and donate to less fortunate people in 3rd world countries so I will contact instead. Maybe she was just having a bad morning but I hope she will take a look at herself. After reading some of the reviews on Yelp I realize she has treated others this way. It's surprising because it is the generosity of others that keeps organization like this going. Ma'am, cut the rude attitude. We were able to donate to Patriots and Paws during the clean out of our parent's home. They were friendly, helpful and so cooperative taking all usable items, to make them available for our military personnel and their families. This effort was over a 3 month period and was coordinated through another organization, Clutter Cleaners. Penny Lambright and her core of dedicated friends and helpers were incredible! I have helped others all my life. Rather it was in the military or as a civilian. Then on day I found my self in need. It was difficult for me because I will filled with guilt, shame and even pride. But the staff at Patriots and Paws we welcoming from the time I arrived. I treated with respect and dignity. These people have serious communication issues I didn't realize that giving free stuff was so difficult to do I had to wait three weeks for them to come pick up my items and then they gave me some excuse about not being able to pick it up because it's not on the first floor well there's an elevator for your disposal to use the items are not that heavy just bulky and you didn't even tell me that I had to put on the first floor how would you know if the items are for your for you to take if I put it on the first floor which happens to be a garageSo they don't pick it up when they come back they don't even take it there's no communication and makes me wonder if they treat their vets and their dog the same way that they treat their customers I don't feel that they are taking good care of me and would definitely not recommend anybody else use their service I did this because I have a service dog and I have a huge appreciation for those who have served our country and apparently this agency does not feel the same way read more

It has been my privilege and pleasure to volunteer with Patriots and Paws and getting to know many people who give from their heart, especially Penny. Her warehouse if filled with household goods that are given away to any military personnel, past and present. If you are in need of furnishings, go online, make out a list of items you need and make an appointment. Show up at the appointed time with a vehicle, tie downs, closed toed shoes and a positive, appreciative attitude. You will be welcomed with open arms and drive away with items that you need. The donors are generous and want things to be put to good use. All the volunteers ask it that you come in with a good attitude and willingness to help if needed. read more

I went to Patriots and Paws because I wanted to help fellow veterans. I ended up quickly being a part of Patriots and Paws. I spent numerous hours weekly helping in many aspects of the organization. I would schedule veterans to come in when they provided what we called a "Wish List." One thing, I am 100% sure about is that Patriots and Paws are not there for themselves. Patriots and Paws helped more veterans in the first few months of 2014 then the organization assisted in the last year because of the hours Penny and myself donated. I know 99% of veterans are thrilled. I cannot tell you how many hugs and tears were shared because Patriots and Paws, allowed veterans to come in and have items, they desperately needed to furnish their first home after spending months to 30 years being homeless. Some items are in high demand and not donated often because usually donors only replace refrigerators, washers and dryers and most other appliances when they are broken. Patriots and Paws do get these items usually when someone is closing an estate and recently from an amazing hotel. Penny lost her biggest donor because she refused to create a thrift store to support her organization. PENNY DOES NOT SELL ITEMS DONATED. Penny gets contacted by organizations such as Salvation Army and Goodwill to help veterans because their organizations have such red tape, she is asked to help and she does. The veteran commented about the PDF file. It was created because veterans would come in and think they are owed something. The file is sent out because the items are FREE but in high demand. Patriots and Paws ask for the veteran to be ready to select and take the items. The volunteers aren't guaranteed to be there plus when you are volunteering that doesn't mean they want to interact with people. Many times, Patriots and Paws get a veteran that comes in with wrong information. They believe it and demand what another organization promises Patriots and Paws to do. Other organization cannot promise what Patriots and Paws can do for a veteran or would that be acceptable at their moving company. I am a veteran. I have been homeless. It can be real easy to have blinders on. I have experience especially with veterans they will believe what they want to and don't hear what they don't want too. Some veterans think they are owed something. You aren't owed anything more than the next veteran Veterans get themselves in a bad situation by their own doing and all of a sudden believe the world needs to stop and take care of them. Be grateful that organizations like Patriots and Paws are doing just that. They truly are trying to help just because you served. They don't judge how you got in a bad place; they simply want to help because you served. As I mention many veterans, if you were called to come get a refrigerator and then it was given away to the next person that walked in the door, you would be quite upset. Any reasonable person would agree and know they were being treated fairly. The fact that Patriots and Paws had that many appliances on hand is because they JUST received them. I know veterans that were waiting patiently for a refrigerator had been called ASAP. Many times veterans come in to pick up items on their wish list and shop with their eyes. Patriots and Paws is there to give you a start not to furnish your brothers place or "it would be nice to have." Patriots and Paws is to help as many veterans possible to get a start. I personally have worked with veterans that have moving companies coming to pick up their selected items. There has not been one moving company show when promised or even showed at all in some cases. I had one veteran sit there for hours waiting for the moving company. There has been many times, Patriots and Paws allowed the veteran to stage their pick up then a NO SHOW from the movers. That is why Penny will no longer allow the veteran to enter early into the warehouse unless they have a way to select and pick it up at the same time. There is enough work as there is but putting items back because the movers didn't come is very discouraging. It is natural for anyone to raise their voice especially in the warehouse because it isn't the easiest place to hear each other because of all the noises going on. It is real easy to get in a habit of raising your voice so the other person can hear. Her yelling at the driver was more like yelling to the driver so he could hear. Penny is not much over 5' foot and a window of a moving truck is quite high. If the veteran believes he was being talked down to is because he came in looking for a fight. I have seen it to many times. My personal experience is when a veteran goes out empty handed is because they aren't grateful. They come in with an attitude to demand. I no longer volunteer the hours; I did in the past for this very reason. I refuse to be told how Patriots and Paws was to be run. read more

I would like to let everyone know about a wonderful place Patroit and Paws is. This is a place where our Veterans can go to get items they need for their homes for free. This place & it's voluteers work tirelessly getting items for our Veterans only just so they can make a nice home. My mom is 97yrs old & is a WWII veteran we came to Penny @ Patroits and Paws there was a. Immediate connection she has shown my mom such love & respect words can not express my appreciation for Penny & Patroits and Paws. We also have been volunteering there for many months & have seen first hand just how many of our Veterans they have helped. Many have expressed to me & my mom their joy & gratitude for all Patroits & Paws has done for them. I have seen them fill up entire trucks with items. We support this place & what they do we need more people like this. read more

Few nonprofits donate 100% of the goods they take in to the folks they serve. This one gives 100% to vets. Your donations help vets from many conflicts or peace time service to get the furnishings they need to set up a home..even in an apartment. As a vet I've seen others grateful for the donations; as a volunteer I get the satisfaction of making a difference. It doesn't get much better than that. And the icing on the cake is a rescue dog for the vet. Btw, donations of money to support the upkeep and all make a big difference, too. read more

Let set the record straight here, As the President of a Veterans Non-Profit (Heroes Deserve Help) we have worked with P & P, Penny and staff for over a year now. I have seen the organization grow from a couple of "storage units" to the present space (over 3000 square feet) to provide much needed household furnishings ,etc. (We've fixed computers from them to donate) to in need Veterans and their families. Almost everyone has been extremely grateful. The reason I use almost everyone. like most persons that seems to be in the volunteer donation business, we seem to have a few that will be or are on the receiving end that feel an entitlement to the item or process. These are the ungrateful ones. We like to use the phrase "Attitude of Gratitude". If your heart's in the right place for receiving, ours is in the right place for giving. Just remember Penny like a lot of us in this "giving business" do it out of a commitment to those who served while carrying on our Father's touch for their Service. We do this on our own dime, on our own time. So remember, Penny and staff and here to serve you in best possible way.
