Got my very first tat yesterday (Friday the 13th, what better day??) and holy carp am I happy with the results! Travis, my artist and also the shop owner, did a fantastic job creating a realistic dragonfly tattoo for me. Told him what I didn't want and he knew exactly what I had in mind. The shop itself is small (it's just Travis and Rob) but very clean. That being said, this is not a drop-in kind of place. Summer months, I was told, are their busiest. Make an appointment--and keep it. I only met Travis so I can only speak for him but he's incredibly polite and accomodating; made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I'm incredibly happy with my first ink experience and because Travis did such an awesome job...I think I might be officially hooked! 4 stars only because this was my first time and don't really have anything to compare it to...but I'd happily give them 5 stars. I'll admit, I was skeptical at first. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, and i definitely didn't think my custom piece would be able to get hooked up from these guys for my second tatt. Thanks to Yelp, i went ahead and went in anyways. What the hell? Why not? Turns out these guys are versatile and excellent at everything. I look at all the work and they are freakin good. I talk to a dude named Josh who quotes me a cheaper price than anywhere i went. He took the time to talk to me about placing and the ins and outs of the piece I wanted. He seemed confident in what he could do, and his portfolio of work was pretty sweet. He asked only for a 20 dollar deposit (only 20 bucks?!) and we set an appointment for the next day. Next day I come in, and Josh gets to work. Great artist. He was in the zone and had me out super quick. And it came out better than I thought it would be. Shading was impeccable, and the art was very realistic. What I liked most about these guys is the environment of the shop. Super Clean, Friendly and hella chill. The customers here getting tatted with me where all comfortable as well. Travis and Rob, the other guys where doing there thing on customers too. Theirs turned out great. I would recommend this shop to anyone, and I look forward to coming here in the future to get more work done on me. read more

I've been tattooed at numerous places around San Diego over the years, but it will be nowhere but Patriot from here on. I've been visiting the shop and checking it out ever since Travis opened it, and I finally got tattooed there a couple years ago for the first time. I've been tattooed by both Travis and Rob, and they're both great. Their prices are reasonable, and they're both exceptional artists. I've sent at least 10 friends to Patriot since I started getting tattooed there, and every one of them was very satisfied. Most of them returned several more times. Travis did my full sleeve, and I get complimented on it all the time. Despite the neighborhood it's in, it is very clean and professional. There aren't a bunch of derelicts hanging around the shop like some other shops. Their prices are more than fair, considering the quality of the work you'll receive. You get what you pay for. Don't bother contacting Patriot Tattoo if you have a simple inexpensive tattoo request because they will not respond even if you are a previous customer who spent hundreds on another one. I like my first tattoo I got here but unfortunately it will be my last at this place since they don't bother responding unless you are having an expensive piece done. I have tried to contact them 3 times to no avail yet I recommended, not to mention bragged about this place after my first experience. First, tattoo virgin here. I'm older and have never had one and had no desire for one until my wife got one. She found Rob through a co-worker. Many co-workers use Rob. So I finally made an appointment to have a rather large, intricate with line work tattoo done by Rob (terms I've now learned!) After the first one, the one tattoo kinda stood out on my chest, so went back and saw Rob again. he added beautiful flag type artwork around the original tattoo, making for a fantastic scene. Now, what next? This place is absolutely great! Rob S was my artist. His preliminary custom drawing was spot on for what i was looking for. The line work in my finished tattoo was beautiful. I get tattoos done by Travis and I just fall in love with them the more I look at them. I get very simple word texts with no color or anything fancy but he puts time and effort into them just the same. He tattoos everyone in my family, my mom, uncle, tia, family friends, etc. When my Nana passed all I wanted was her heartbeat tattooed on my fore arm, he squeezed my appointment in within 24 hrs and made it happen for me so I could have it by the time we laid her to rest (which was just a few days after she passed since he was in hospice and took a few days to transition, everything was expedited) he gave me one of the most comforting gifts during such a difficult time.
