This isn't just a tennis club; it's a family where you're welcomed with open arms. I discovered…read morethis gem through a friend I met on PlayYourCourt. Initially, I questioned why I'd pay for a membership when the public courts at Ruth Hardy Park are within walking distance. It's not always easy to find someone to hit with or secure an open court depending on the day. I was also considering investing in a ball machine but didn't really have the space to store it. I'll admit, I was skeptical at first, having a bias against country clubs due to my experience with the stuffy, judgmental vibes I often encountered at the one my grandparents belonged to. But CC Tennis Club is completely different. Walking into the pro shop and being greeted by Gracie, their sweet black lab, and the friendly faces of Terri and David, was a breath of fresh air--warm, welcoming, and genuine. While $700 a year might seem steep, it's actually a bargain compared to other clubs in the area, which often charge three times as much or more! The ball machine rental is $25/hour. I realized that if I used it for just 2.3 hours a month, I'd break even. Now, I don't have to store one or worry about replacing balls. The Playmate iGenie they offer is top-notch (it's a $7k machine!), and I can even connect my iPhone to customize drills, which has significantly improved my game and consistency. I probably use the ball machine 7-12 hours a month now so I'm getting insane value on this alone. Terri's excellent matchmaking service means I always have someone to play with, which has solved my problem of finding hitting partners. The members here are friendly and truly love the game, without any of the snobbiness you might find elsewhere. When I need my racquet restrung, David's 30+ years of experience really shines. He's strung for some of the most famous players and can even crank it out while I wait if needed. His string recommendation for my first racquet was spot on. (I learned my lesson after trying a full poly setup suggested online, which was a big mistake) I've also been attending the 1.5-hour Wednesday clinics with Bill Parsha, and my game has improved tremendously. At just $25, it's a steal, and the smaller class sizes mean plenty of hitting time and more personalized instruction. I've even taken a few private lessons at $70/hour--again, super affordable. Bill's coaching style is relaxed and fun, perfect for anyone who doesn't want the rigid 'drill sergeant' approach. He also helped me set up a beginner's clinic for my friends, and they can't stop raving about him. The facilities are simple but functional. There's no fancy clubhouse, but the shaded seating areas are perfect for cooling down and socializing after matches. Personally, I prefer this over higher annual dues for amenities I don't need. Where else could I go and be greeted by a beautiful black lab nearly every time I play? It's a unique touch that sets CC apart from other clubs. The vibe is laid-back, supportive, and inclusive. I even used the ball machine on the 4th of July in a banana suit as a celebration of personal freedom, and instead of judgment, the members laughed and embraced the fun. (Freedom = free to be dumb) If you're looking for pure tennis without the frills, CC Tennis Club is the place to be. Oh, and all 10 courts were resurfaced in September 2024, so they're the freshest in the valley--proof of David and Terri's commitment to running the best club in the desert.

Lots of parties, tournaments. This place is a gem! 50 of the hundred residential units have turned over in the past five years. New owners are primarily 50s tennis enthusiasts so the community and club is much younger than other Coachella Valley communities. The clubhouse renovation that is scheduled for this summer with completion in October 25 is going to be stunning. Check out the photos from the season opener Gilligan's Island themed party!

There are a…read morecouple of other tennis options in Palm Desert, but there are some things that set Palm Desert Tennis club apart. They have a focus on tennis and do a good job getting people involved. Residents have access to the courts, but non-residents can also join the club and play tennis here. We have friends from Palm Desert who don't have tennis in their communities, and chose to join PDTC. One service that sets PDTC apart is that pros are available about every day, and help organize games for you. Tell Melanie your level and when you want to play and she can find you a game. "I'm in town and would like to play Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9. I'm a 4.0 and would like to play men's doubles." You can probably get a pretty good game organized. After a few days you might be able to build up a network of local players at your level. There is also a group of advanced players 4.5 and up, which can be harder to find. They also have pickleball if you like that sort of thing. The homes are comfortable condos arranged in groups of 20 units surrounding a pool and hot tub. You're close to El Paseo and the dining and shopping options of Palm Desert so you have a good location going for you here also.
