Our favorite providers (Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey) left. Some staff members can be pretty unhelpful and truly only seem to care about their billing and rules. The other negative reviews are spot on, sadly. (The current exception is Jonathan, a medical assistant in the adult clinic--he's kind, personable, and was excellent with my teen, but alas, he only does the check in/vitals part). They are consistently late--we always wait at least 30 minutes up to an hour most recently for our appointment to begin, and this is in addition to taking kids out of school to be there 15-20 minutes early to check in! They absolutely do not respect a patient's time and offer zero apology. It's maddening. I've messaged different providers for different family members or reasons, and the same person writes back each time, so it's definitely not secure or private in any way. She also types the absolute minimum and doesn't seem to want to help in any way, but if you call, they tell you to message via the portal. They up-charged us for longer or more involved appointments for my kids even though we've only discussed one issue at the short appointment, and when I questioned the billing department, they said they'd immediately remove the charge since I asked about it. Since I asked?! So if people don't notice and question the additional charge, they just get scammed? Appalling. They recently told me the next available check in for a child was in several months. I said our prescription will lapse before then, and they asked if I still wanted to schedule. I had to point out in writing that they need to refill the prescription temporarily so it doesn't lapse if we have to wait for an appointment or else please fit us in for even a video appointment. I had to fight this back and forth and once I said I need to confirm you are refusing to refill a child's necessary medicine prescription and also making her wait for an appointment so the medicine will lapse and it will affect her health immediately--finally then they suddenly had an appointment available in two days (which was a video appointment where we waited almost an hour for them to come online and didn't until I called the office and told them we were online waiting.) The final straw was in taking a teen to discuss a medical issue they were already anxious about, and the provider made a big deal about her weight to the point of hinting that she'll develop an eating disorder (child feels fine about their diet and eats well/healthy) and we left the appointment with teen crying and anxious about a condition they don't even have! We're done with SMC, and I'm so sad. Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey were amazing women and great resources for our neighborhood, but sadly this place has gone so far downhill since they left that I won't risk my kids' health here anymore.

There are many medical clinics and healthcare organizations in the greater Portland area, and based…read moreon my experience, I recommend seeking care elsewhere. The staff at Sellwood Medical Clinic showed a lack of empathy and professionalism. Here is a summary of three interactions I had with this clinic. In November 2025, I arrived about 30 minutes early for an appointment and was told to wait until my scheduled time. Once I was taken to the exam room, I waited another hour for the clinician to arrive. At the time, I did not mind because she was thorough and friendly. She recommended that I return for a well-person visit. I had to wait 5 months for a well-person visit appointment. Then, shortly before the appt, it was cancelled. I received an email and voicemail saying the provider had to leave early and that I needed to call to reschedule. When I called back to reschedule, the next available appointment was another month away. My most recent experience, two weeks ago, is the reason I am writing this review. The appointment I had been waiting five months for finally arrived. I completed the online pre-check-in hours in advance, which took more than 20 minutes, and I paid my copay. Because of rain and traffic, I arrived shortly after my scheduled appointment time. The clinic said staff told me I was nine minutes late. I had also paused outside to let an elderly couple enter first, which delayed my check-in by a few minutes. I was refused care and told I would need to reschedule. I explained that I urgently needed the visit and calmly asked whether they could reconsider. I also noted that my previous appointment had been cancelled and that this was the rescheduled date. Attending these appointments requires time away from work. The front desk employee went back again to relay my request. By that point, I was in tears. During this time, two women behind the reception desk were giggling and laughing. I do not know what they were laughing about, but I was visibly upset while they looked my way, talked, and laughed. It felt unsettling and deeply unprofessional. Ultimately, I was not seen. Neither clinic management nor the clinician came out to speak with me. The front desk employee apologized again and said I would have to reschedule. Afterward, I emailed the clinic to ask for more information about their "9-minute policy." I was told in writing that no such formal policy exists. Their response stated: "The 9 minute grace time for being late to an appointment is not a clinic policy, it is the most amount of time we can give for a patient to arrive for the appointment and still be seen." I then had to request they refund my copayment 3 days after this incident. Overall, this experience was highly unprofessional. The clinic delayed my care by cancelling and postponing my appointment, then denied services because I was allegedly nine minutes late. I will not continue trying to receive care at Sellwood. A medical clinic and its staff should treat patients with compassion and empathy, and I experienced neither. I left feeling embarrassed and unsupported. Although it may take time to see another provider, the wait will be worth it. I encourage patients to choose a clinic where they feel heard and supported.

I can't get into my doctor and am pushed off from one doctor to the next that doesn't want to deal with me. I can't get half my meds, basic referrals and tests. Simple follow up care after an ER trip where I may or may not have had a stroke has become a living nightmare. The entire OHSU system seems to exist to prevent accurate diagnosis and medical care. I've never had as negligent and abusive care anywhere and I used to go to Kaiser. Nowhere else takes months to make simple referrals and order MRIs. I have seen multiple OHSU doctors that need empathy and ethics training, at a public corporation where willful malpractice is tolerated to compensate for their critical lack of doctors and a CCO that routinely denies routine medical care. Doctors will lie to, gaslight and fight with very sick patients to get out of paperwork. Then they will lie in your record to hide the patient abandonment they know they just committed. Omitting dangerous vitals, abnormal tests and concerning symptoms is just business as usual at OHSU. This sicker you are, the more of a punching bag you become. I have seen 3 different doctors in this clinic trying to get follow up care and still have had not had my brain evaluated for a possible stroke I had a month ago. Recovering from a possible stroke has been like going to WWW wrestling matches where I repeatedly get beat down for having a major health issue. At a certain point this negligence starts to look like a system that does not want their sickest, most neglected patients to have any evidence of OHSUs negligence. I cannot imagine how many patients have died waiting for needed tests and referrals while these doctors lie to and abuse the sickest patients as if their medical conditions are a personal attack on their egos. I saw some attack dog NP yesterday who went through all 5 stages of gaslighting to get out of paperwork. She wasted my time acting like she wanted to know what was going on and proceeded to lie to and abuse me for 15 minutes straight. I told her the whole traumatic story and how I have a swollen artery and at risk for a stroke and that I need the MRI and a more urgent neurology referral that the ER recommended - very normal healthcare requests I have never had to fight like this for anywhere else. Her first response was that Medicaid wouldn't pay for it (discrimination). I said if the referral is urgent, Medicaid is supposed to. She then tried to tell me nothing indicated these referral/order and started invalidating all my symptoms and abnormal vitals and tests line by line. She twisted facts and rewrote reality while I was sitting there with a severe one sided headache. She denied I had unstable BP, lied about what the orders/report said and even read it off to me as if it proved her point. She literally read the words of the CT scan report "follow up with an MRI" out loud to me. She then said it didn't say MRI, it said I needed another MRA, like I'm an idiot who doesn't understand English, to try to make me question reality, which is the definition of gaslighting. She then became offended that I was getting emotionally distraught and shocked by her reckless disregard for my life. She said I had a bad vibe and "I'm just meeting you," as if it wasn't her job to meet patients for the first time in a literal urgent care clinic. She used this line twice, causing me to apologize and repeat that I was just afraid I could have a stroke due to swollen arteries that were seen on that MRA. She said "I'm a medical professional. I know what a stroke is," because my mere existence was an affront on this woman's fragile ego and her "not a real doctor" complex. This is the 3rd OHSU practitioner to abuse me in one month since I was in the ER a month ago. No one has denied I have a swollen artery in my head where I'm having pain. There is no follow care for me at Richmond clinic. So I will pay for my own MRI and will probably have to drop Medicaid to do so. Why not? Im already my own doctor. OHSU is performative medicine that looks very clinical on paper but doesn't exist in reality. At a point patients money-saving deaths appear to be the goal. How many former patients became disabled & homeless from preventable conditions and died living outside? I can imagine that the poor radiologists who dare to say the truth on a report get beat down in some sketchy OHSU backroom. Richmond clinic is a fake store front for money laundering scheme where patient care is "rationed" out until they die. What will they do when rationing medical care becomes illegal next year? The same.

She'd also recommended I take Alleve for the pain. With past providers telling me to take an Ibuprofen, this felt refreshing but more so, validating to have my pain taken seriously. During the appointment, Dr. Wu was kind, respectful and professional. She'd even asked if I needed another person in there for support and then brought back Heather, who was kind and supportive.
