I came in with an asthma flare up and chest pains. I checked in and they called me back within 5-10 minutes because of the severity of my asthma. I was extremely grateful considering it felt like I was breathing from a straw. Dr irby was great at giving me details about my meds and aftercare. Her nursing assistant was also super sweet and I felt like I was in good hands. read more

Melissa Irby, Physician Assistant, was absolutely superb and she deserves lots of kudos. Her manner, careful listening, advice, perspective, medical expertise, and caring are unsurpassed. She was a model of what "physician assistant/doctor-patient" interaction should be. I hope when I use Patient First again that I am fortunate enough to have her as my attending assistant. In a previous visit, I was attended to by Dr. Justin Hepner (spelling?). He too was superb and is highly recommended. The only occasional problem with Patient First is that there can be long waits to see the doctor/assistant at certain times. Unfortunately that comes with all walk-in clinics. read more

Quick and efficient! I was in and out which is rare at medical facilities. My only issue was that no one could tell me if I would be charged the office visit + procedure fee. I had to settle for a procedure I didn't come for to prevent being charge for something without a clear idea of cost. But it was still effective and the staff was nice. They answered all other questions with patience and clarity. read more

in currently waiting here for a doctor and it's been 3 hours. upon asking what was going on, I was simply told "there's only one person ahead of you." this is a doctor's office--not a roller coaster. successful doctors can go from patient to patient at least addressing them SOMEHOW. I was told, after explaining to the assistant that I had a limited time of 3 hours to get everything done due to work and was told it wouldn't be an issue as THREE DOCTORS ARE HERE. Only one is to be seen and he doesn't seem to be tending to the "one patient ahead of me." The two other workers are nowhere to be seen. I've now missed over four hours of paid work and waiting on these jackasses who spend their time yapping all day (I have been here 3 hours, again, and have heard nothing but random unnecessary, non-work related garbage....talking about each other's tattoos now. I had a previous negative experience here and should have learned from my mistakes but needed somewhere close In a short amount of time. i could have gone to the ER and been home by now. read more

I went in experiencing symptoms of CoVid and was worried about whether I was exposing my family or others, even though I have been avoiding any exposure since the outbreak began. The staff, technicians, and healthcare providers, even knowing this, were not wearing face shields. Luckily, it turned out I was the one being overly cautious. Unluckily, if that's what any of us are looking for in a healthcare provider, then I think we are misguided. I appreciate being seen quickly, as the place was practically empty--a good sign for the health of the community. That being said, I wasn't asked about any current meds--I provided this info on my own based on what I thought might be useful, which I was then told was vitally helpful. I wasn't asked if I needed refills on what was causing the CoVid symptoms (allergies). Very strange experience. I know there are heroes working for us out there! I encourage people to try to find them in the many places they are working. I would not follow up on my allergies here, and I don't expect a follow up call from there. I will say that all the interpersonal exchanges I had with staff and providers was absolutely pleasant, personable, and professional as I think was possible. read more

My husband and I love this place! We recently followed our PCP from a group practice to PF so they are now also our primary care center. We have used them probably have a dozen times in the past 3 years and I have to agree with other commenters about the front office staff. The front desk person we always seem to get for check in is one of the rudest people I have ever come across in a customer service setting. On our last visit a couple of weeks ago she wasn't there. I'm hoping that it's not just because it was a Sunday afternoon, but that they finally dismissed her because of her attitude. My husband is one of the nicest most laid back people I know and every time we talk about PF, he wonders if that rude b@$# is still there. She really brings the whole place down. read more

I decided to visit patient first because I was having the worst abdominal pain ever. The lady who asked for my insurance and had me sign papers was nice. But once I was called by a nurse to check my height, weight, and blood pressure- she gave me the worst attitude I had ever experienced from a doctor in my life( I didn't get her name but she was wearing pink scrubs today 3/4/23) . She told me to grab my things after checking my height and weight and sit in the chair (which I thought meant go back to the lobby) obviously I'm im pain and I can't comprehend what you're saying especially if you don't point. She then proceeded to ask me why I was there but I misheard her and she snapped back real quick because I didn't hear her right?? I'm not sure if that's how you treat patients but you shouldn't be a nurse with that nasty attitude. I then was checked out by the nicest doctors. They made me feel so much better and had the best hospitality. One of them asked me to take a urine sample which I did but as I was using the bathroom a nurse wearing pink scrubs (there were 2 nurses in pink scrubs but she wasn't the one that was nasty) instead- she opened the door while I was in there (didn't even knock) and then shut the door and didn't apologize. As I left the bathroom she was talking to the other nurse in the pink scrubs(the one with the attitude) and was gossiping about her opening the bathroom door when I was there. This has probably been the worst experience of my life at a patient first. read more

Patient First reached out via Yelp messaging regarding my recent review and wanted to learn more so they "could improve" and "learn more about my experience". They asked me to call them. When I responded out of courtesy, they informed me the conversation was being recorded. As a customer I found the recording without permission and not having the option to speak without being recorded invasive and aggressive. I was told the recording was in case there was a he said/she said case against the doctor. I was lead to believe by sharing my experience, I would be bringing a complaint against the doctor in question and that all my comments would be on the record. I also wonder if the information they wanted to record was to truly be used against the doctor in question, or against me for writing the negative review. This is NOT cool. I wasn't going to visit Patient First again, but this really seals the deal! read more

This Patient First is pretty good, as long as you know what you're going for. When I moved to the city, I went to this Patient First as my primary care doctor. I went in for various reasons and pretty much always experienced quick, friendly service. Each time I've gone to this location I've brought a book, expecting to wait a long time, and have never waited more than 10 minutes or so. Maybe I've just hit it at the right time, but this is nice. You don't need an appointment, you just walk in. On one occasion, I went in to ask about a mole. The physician I saw thought I needed to see a specialist, gave me a referral, called a friend and got me an appointment the next day. On another visit, I went in with a broken foot, had an xray and a quick referral to an orthopedic surgeon. It's nice that if Patient First is your primary care doctor you can go in for issues like this and pay your copay instead of an ER fee. The only downside to going here is you're not going to get the continuing care you'd get with a dedicated primary care physician. You're not going to get a doctor who listens carefully to your problems and orders extra tests preventatively. It's kind of a place where you go for a specific issue and get a cure. This works for me since I'm in pretty good health, but if you aren't you might want to seek out a specific primary care physician. read more

Overall - had a good experience. I waited about 10 minutes to be called back after checking in. The front desk employee was friendly and made it an easy process to complete my paperwork. I had to have blood taken and the man who did it was kind and funny as he prepped his station and he made it a painless experience. The doctor that met with me was... straight to the point. I came in with a sinus infection and she was quick to get me the medicine I needed. But she wasn't patient when I asked questions. She was rude when I asked medical questions about what I was experiencing and made it seem like it should have been common sense to know the answer. I also had to wait longer to see the doctor than I did after checking in. Overall, it was an easy and relatively quick experience. Location is pretty good with a fair amount of parking. And when I went around 2:00pm, it was not busy. There were about 4 people waiting. read more

I spent two hours waiting to receive stitches in my hand. I understand that higher quality doctors and nurses don't work at Patient First. I figured a simple procedure would be hard for them to screw up. However they found a way to screw up putting stitches in my hand. My cut wasn't sealed after putting stitches and one of the stitches was placed above my cut and pulls on my finger. The picture below was taken two days after the stitches were done. read more

This place is terrible. Completely wasted my time. Came in a with a dislocated shoulder, waited an hour and a half to see the doctor for him to tell me they don't pop shoulders back in here, only smaller joints. You think somebody could have told me this before I sat in writhing pain for over an hour. I then asked if I could have a copy of my X-rays to take with me to the hospital. 15 more minutes go by and no X-rays. I stepped out and asked if anyone was printing them out, everyone in the place looked at me like I was an idiot. Nobody responded and I knew at this point everyone at this place was incompetent. Patient first has been my PCP for 3 years because I can't find a doctor (or haven't really looked). I find the front of house staff and nurses to be extremely short, rude and unwelcoming. I never get the warm fuzzies... They are generally very mechanical and impatient. Medical facilities make me very anxious and the vide at this location don't help. The doctor services I've received are generally acceptable; I usually go to get a referral or just recently, treat a horrible poison ivy rash. Although once my doctor was wearing stiletto heals. Who does that?? Friendlier staff would help this location a great deal. read more

Went here for many years but as of late they became very pushy concerning workmans comp. Not everything falls under this category yet they seem to push you in that direction regardless of what you say. Makes me wonder if they are getting some kind of kickback from insurance company's. The wait was...just ridiculous. I've been to patient first before and I've been treated good. This time I went to take a test and checking in was smooth. I waited about 15 minutes to be called back for vitals and take my test. Then was sent to the waiting room. At that point I'd been waiting almost an hour and I wanted to just go home. Finally called back and put into a room just to wait another half hour for the doctor to come. I'm irritated at this point because I'm hungry (probably should've ate) and there wasn't even a lot of people in the lobby. Barely busy. Okay here comes the doctor. Dr. Damian Covington I remember. He was very sweet and I told him about symptoms I had also with abdominal pain. He did an abdominal exam and at the time it wasn't hurting so he probably assumed I didn't need any medicine even though it was most likely going to hurt again which it did. He just referred me to the women's center and that's it. A week or so goes by and I check my lab results and there was a couple things that were abnormal that NOBODY told me about. So I contacted patient first about it, after a nurse tried to get in contact with me; I called that same number back and no answer. At that point I gave up. Funny enough I got a letter in the mail from the manager or chairman apologizing for the long wait as I was one of the people who experienced it. Don't come here for a pregnancy test it's a waste of time. You're better off just going to the store and calling it a day. Gas wasted and time that I didn't have. read more

I have been to this location multiple times for friends. Two of which had to have strep tests. The first time I came, they were in and out with their strep medication within 30 minutes. The second time I went, it took an hour and a half for the doctor to even tell my friend what was wrong. It was not busy at all and they did not try to help us after asking for the doctor multiple times. A strep test does not take over an hour, and they acted like it was normal. If you want to actually be treated, I suggest going to a different facility. read more

Wow! Last night I was provided with seriously the most excellent care I've experienced in a medical facility in years. I'd been feeling really sick with a headache, fever, chills, dizziness, and a severe throat ache when swallowing. I laid in bed for nearly 2 days when I was finally able to get myself up and out of the house and down to Patient First Carytown. I arrived at 9:30pm (approx. 30 minutes before they take their last patient), and I waited for all of 2 minutes after checking in on their touch screen before I was called by the smiley and sweet patient coordinator to take my ID and insurance and sign the "I will pay for the service you are about to give me" form. Then I sat back down for another hot minute before my name was called by a lovely nurse who took my vitals and led me to my treatment room, where she swabbed me for strep and said that Dr. Holmes will be in to see me shortly. It was a relatively quick wait for any doctor's office (maybe 10-15 mins?) and Dr. Holmes reported that I sadly had strep. She was as sweet as can be with a lovely bedside manner that instilled a sense of trust and ease in my aching body. She informed me of all treatment options, and I opted for the one-time antibiotic shot in the tush muscle. Another sweet nurse administered the shot, and I had to stay and lay down for 20 minutes to make sure I didn't react. Dr. Holmes came back into my room with a heated blanket (!!), and dimmed the lights to make sure I was comfortable. Flash forward to a day later, and I get a call from none other than Dr. Holmes (!!), making sure that I'm doing better and to let me know that she forgot to tell me to wash my coffee mugs and replace my toothbrushes. So thoughtful. Very pleased with my care! read more

The staff was friendly and attentive. Came in with the worst heartburn pain and excess vomiting and left with zero pain and a smile on my face. The doctor came in multiple times to check on me and even had time to talk to my mother on the phone. One of the nurses brought my a warm blanket to sleep and another nurse gave me a wet towel for my mouth after throwing up. Overall a great experience. read more

Welp, I don't know where all these bad reviews are coming from but I'm glad I didn't listen to them! Maybe the staff has changed in recent years? I visited last week. I have new insurance that actually told me I didn't have any in-network urgent care but I was absolutely desperate and needed antibiotics. I came here on a Friday afternoon and had a wonderful experience, certainly my best PF experience EVER, and like most people PF experiences can be mixed. Maybe this was just because the place was not busy at all on this friday afternoon, but I felt like it was very clean, well-organized, and well staffed for any amount of patients. As soon as I sat down I was called in to give my information. The person who assisted me went above and beyond to figure out what she could do about my insurance situation. She was kind, friendly, and helpful. As soon as my butt went back down in the seat in the waiting room I was called to the back again. Once I was in the exam room, I only had time to use the restroom before I saw the doctor. And the doctor, Dr. Jill Goldman, was FABULOUS. She was the first person I had seen in weeks who really listened to me about my symptoms, ordered the correct tests, took the time to do the exam properly, explain what was going on and why she was prescribing each medication, and then making sure I could take the steps to go somewhere else to get my prescriptions filled because their pharmacy was too expensive for me. She was the best Patient First doctor I've ever had. I don't know about the negative reviews, but that was my experience. I would go out of my way to come back to this facility and I was back to health within 24 hours after leaving and getting the right prescriptions. read more

Is it possible to give less than one star? After waiting for two hours, I never saw a doctor or had a nurse come and check in my room despite complaining about breathing difficulties. Suggestion to everyone: go to a different location. It will save you time. Signed in at about 6:40pm on a Sunday. By 8:50pm, left without ever seeing a doctor. When asked twice throughout the wait about how long before the doctor would be in, staff's responses were "soon" and "the doctor is finishing up with another patient and then will be in." Both were grossly inaccurate. Got a refund of the copay, but never an apology or any sort of recognition from staff that the wait time was unreasonable. So again, suggestion: save yourself the time and frustration and drive an extra 10 minutes to another location. read more

Alright look, it's Patient First. You don't go to Patient First expecting top-notch care and a wonderful experience. You go to Patient First for convenience - whether that's because they're open when your regular doctor isn't or, if you're like me, because you don't have a GP. I know I should probably have found a solid GP by now, but I rarely visit the doctor and when I need tests done, I just go to my family doctor in my hometown. Enter Patient First. I've visited this particular location a few times over the years and have never had an amazing experience, but have also never had a terrible one. A few years ago I fell down my basement stairs while carrying an overloaded laundry basket and headed to Patient First for x-rays after the pain became a bit much. I remember my wait time being minimal and the staff being professional. I've also been to check out an eye issue, and most recently, I went with a severe cough that they diagnosed as bronchitis. On my most recent visit I waited a ridiculously long time to see the doctor. Longer than any previous visits, and so long that I was close to walking out. Had I been waiting in the waiting room, I might not have been as antsy. However, I had already been taken back to the patient room and checked by the nurse, where I sat. And sat. And sat. I saw a few patients enter and leave before I was seen, so I couldn't help but get a bit annoyed. I have no idea how their process works, so maybe these patients were seen as more severe cases, or maybe they were seeing different doctors for different issues. Regardless, it got to the point where I was concerned I had been forgotten so I asked the nurse how much longer she expected the wait to be. Once the doctor examined me, I was out in a jiffy, but the waiting was no bueno. To be fair, I arrived on the Sunday before Christmas, and I'm sure it was a bit busier than normal so I cut them some slack for that. Really, I don't mind waiting I just mind feeling like I'm being overlooked. So, moral of the story, you roll the dice with Patient First. For quick, convenient care when you don't have a regular doctor and you need to be seen on a weekend, they're the way to go. At least, they're the way I choose to go. If you want something more personalized, then you should probably look elsewhere. read more

I've had multiple bad experiences here... the plight of the uninsured, but that's a different story altogether. My most recent occurred without me even setting foot in this place! I run a small business. One of my employees went in for an issue that was not work related. They asked who her employer is, which she answered. They made her fill out Worker's Comp forms despite her explanation that it was not work related, that she was going to be using her personal insurance for the visit. They blew up our office phone right after the visit, letting us know that at WC claim was forthcoming. My employee called me directly afterward and explained the situation and her frustration with them, which prompted me to call Patient First back to set things straight. Patient First was basically unresponsive... "the forms have been filed, you need to wait for us to mail you the claim form and then formally deny it. Then the patient needs to come back in and provide her insurance info so it can be paid for." Now, I have a thorn in my ass that I should have never had to deal with. My employee does also. I've got enough to deal with on a daily basis without some 2-bit doc-in-a-box screwing with me and trying to squeeze me for cash that I don't owe. I won't speculate on their motive for operating this way... I won't explain how their outrageous charges get discounted to a somewhat reasonable rate by health insurance carriers... I won't expound on the fact that many small business owners will just pay for something like this to make it go away (with some of them even neglecting to secure Worker's Comp insurance, which is not the case in my shop)... I won't suggest that this may be a business practice that is in place to ensure that Patient First squeezes the little guy to help bolster their bottom line. I will state that they handled this situation inappropriately and the resulting ass pain won't likely go away soon. read more

I was sick during Christmas, and went to this urgent care center on Christmas Day. It's supposed to be a festive day with good spirits, but what I detected from every member of Patient First at Carytown from the front desk, nursing tech to the doctor is everyone is pissed off or don't have any empathy. They missed something during their training. No smiles, no care. It is one thing to treat the body, but it's another thing to make a person feel comfortable especially when they see you for their health. I give two stars because I didn't wait too long, and the treatment was appropriate, but the lack of empathy could be improved. To be blunt, the bedside manner sucks. read more

Wait, I think I see a pattern forming. Josh R. had a worker file a workmans comp claim that was not one. Guess who has the same problem that occurred at the Richmond Location also? We have one now. I have insurance and they keep sending me bills and claim there is nothing to be done. I have told them and my wife has told them we have insurance and NOTHING happened at work. The girl forcefully tried to get this done and apparently did not use our insurance card as told. This has got to be some kind of scam. Who do we call to get this investigated or fixed. Billing is useless and plays the patient game each time I call. We have both spoken with them and they said it would be fixed. Now the story is that it has to be denied and then sent off to my insurance. Why was this even tried? How many fraudulent claims go through this office? read more

Horrible visit I had on Sunday July 13. The receptionist didn't seem to be concerned about my health, but much more concerned with 23 cents I owed for a prior visit.. She made a great show of paying it herself, saying otherwise the nurse may not take me in..really? they're so hard about 23 cents? My Aetna insurance pays them a whole bunch more. Then, I was taken to see a Dr. Goldman. After describing my symptoms she started talking about a medical condition that I have, which is under control, then vaguely mentioning I could have a TIA, a pre-stroke..not explaining, why this is serious, or showing an ounce of empathy. The Patient First at Midlothian is much better. I rather drive across town than deal with this people at Carytown. read more
