This little locally owned glass shop on the east side of Elwood offers glass making demonstrations…read moreand has a gift shop filled with hundreds of pieces of in-house made products. We visited during the Elwood Glass Festival. The shop is in an older pole barn with parking on the side. The demonstrations were outstanding and fascinating. Master craftsman, Danny, made several paperweights while assistant, Wendy, narrated the process. It was mesmerizing to watch and the team welcomed questions. They described each step, while Danny worked. Watching Danny make glass was the highlight of our visit to Elwood. The gift shop next door was filled with all types of colorful and intricate glass items. There were paperweights, vases, ornaments and glass decor. The glass is marked and sold under the name Prestige. Prices were reasonable for a handcrafted work of art. I'm not sure the demonstrations are available everyday or not, so call before you go if you want to observe. They will make custom pieces. They also offer classes in glass making.

I had a nice little visit to Carolee's herb farm today. Since it is later in the summer, the farm…read moreis currently open only 1 day a month. Today they were open and had a plant sale and a make a take craft. Carolee's is a whimsical herb farm that is great for adults and kids. There are different themed gardens (e.g. butterfly garden). In the summer, there are fields of all different varieties of lavender (in fact I think this is their biggest attraction). The farm also has a green house with plenty of plants you can purchase to take home (including a wide variety of lander and lavendin plants). They also have items for sale that are flower/herb themed, fairy stuff, dried herbs, quite a bit of dried lavender items including wreaths and lavender wands. Today there was a make a take craft (no charge) and a delicious elder flower cake and tea. Carolee helped picking out plants and was very kind during our visit. The craft was a bath tea (lemon balm, orange peal, rosemary, epsom salts, oatmeal). I look forward to using it later. I will definitely come back next year before the lavender has been harvested. I would like to harvest some of my own fresh lavender. Also, check out the calender on the website, there are occasionally workshops available. I think there is a crockpot soap making workshop coming up that seemed very interesting.
