Feeding the goats!

OMG. If you're only in town for one day, EAT HERE. Or better yet, eat here, and then take home six frozen pasties to eat later. You're welcome. These are literally the best pasties I've ever had, and we have spent a lot of time in the UP Michigan, which arguably is where pasties are from. They do everything right here. Full disclosure, we are vegetarian so I only tried the veggie, but IT. WAS. TO. DIE. FOR. it's a tiny shop so you may need to wait outside for a bit (especially while omicron is raging through town), but trust me, it is worth the wait! Apparently they have been in business for decades, and it shows.

I really like Pasties Plus - you really have to stop by if you're anywhere near Grand Rapids! I guess I was one of the only people on the planet that never tried a pastie before! They're simple, good, and hearty. I'd describe them as a beef pot pie that's completely enclosed so it's easily transported. It's also similar to a big empanada. Or similar to a thick (and less pizza-like) calzone. Most of the varieties aren't very spicy so you probably, at the minimum, need a little salt & pepper to zip them up. This is a really small shop in the front corner of an old house on Main Street. They only have one table. I completely misunderstood how Pasties are sold. They're sold "half baked". So most people take them home and bake them for 30 minutes, at 350, in the oven. Or if you want to wait half an hour, they'll bake it for you at the shop. We took them to grandpa & grandma's house and ate them in Deer River - yum! This is a cool place. Thumbs up! -Daddy Maxx Retro

No flashy signs here, but worth finding.

MN born and raised I remember my mother making these growing up and how delicious they are regardless of you're the gravy person or the ketchup person. After about 30 years I'm finally able to visit MN more and wow what a pleasant surprise to find this place while working in town today. I called ahead to make sure she'd have a couple specific pasties hot and ready for me (short on time today) I didn't get her name, not sure if she was the owner or just the brains behind the craft but she was sweet, personable and had my pasties ready when I arrived. The traditional rutabaga was the obvious choice and done perfectly..brought back memories of childhood. The German pasties with brat and kraut was delicious. Sampled each for lunch and will finish them off later tonight. Tempted to return before leaving town to give her a big hug! She's earned one today!

This place was great! It was a whole in the Wall spot that you would not find unless you knew it was there. It is really small with only one table. They sell their pasties fully cooked, half cooked, and frozen. This place is as home town and local as you can get. The recipe for the pasties came from the families of the women who work and own the restaurant. They have been featured in National Geographic. It is really some special and unique that you should check out.

5 bucks for a pasty as big as your hand! Tasty, but nothing I'll crave in a few weeks.

We rolled into town and stayed at the Best Western. We asked the staff for pizza recommendations…read moreand they said they had just ordered from Sammy's. The service was fast and helpful. It was busy and they let us know the pizza and breadsticks we ordered would be about 25 minutes. It was spot on. We order the Sammy's Special to go and it was delicious. The crust was thin and crispy. I can only imagine how good it would be fresh at restaurant instead of to go. The breadsticks were thick and fresh. We did order Alfredo sauce and got pizza sauce instead but it was still very good. I will definitely come again when we're in town for lacrosse.

This place has always been a go for my family. Healthy portions and well made food. But lately…read morethings seem to be going backwards. I got a pizza last night for instance, and there was such a small amount of cheese on the pizza that I could see the red sauce just as much as the cheese (see picture). There were a bunch of younger kids working in the back, so maybe they just aren't taking their time or measuring as much as normal... but regardless, when I pay over $27.00 for a 14" pizza? I expect it to be darned good! I mean, that cost me almost 2 hours of working to afford that pizza. And that's what I get? I'm going to start going to the blueberry bowl in deer river from now on. They are extremely generous with their toppings and they don't cost as much. It's worth the drive when you're paying so much for Sammy to hold back on you!

I hate having to give 2 stars, but I just did not have a great experience. I was in town for work…read moreand stopped here for dinner. I was seated at a high top in the bar area. It took probably 10 minutes for anyone to greet me. There were servers walking past me and I was so confused why no one said hi, or we will be right with you. Nothing. There was a couple of women at a table near me that must have been employees, because the servers kept going over there at chatting. I ordered the salmon with au gratin potato's and Brussel sprouts. The salmon was cooked nicely, but everything was so extremely salty that it made it difficult to enjoy. I tried scraping off as much of sauce on the salmon so I could finish it. Overall, I was really disappointed and won't be back.

We had a great experience here. Apparently it's also called the Timberlodge Grill so if your GPS…read morebrings you to either spot, you are in the right place. I chose the tenderloin medallions stuffed with onions and mushrooms and wrapped in bacon. For sides, I had the Caesar salad, green beans, and mashed potatoes. I wish I would have had one more medallion for the cost of the meal but it was quite tasty. Husband had panko shrimp which was also quite good. Entrees come with a hot-out-of-the-oven popover. Yummm. Service was excellent. It would be great if they could create more of a dinner atmosphere. The lighting is like being in a conference room.
