Visited: 09.05.2026…read more Chocolatería San Ginés is famous for its churros, so of course we had to make a stop here while in Madrid! The line to dine in was super long, so we opted for takeout instead. We ended up eating while standing by the sign, which wasn't exactly the most comfortable setup, but we were there for the churros and chocolate anyway. We ordered the regular churros and the other, thicker ones (the porras). I preferred the original churros, but both came with that really good chocolate. Honestly, the chocolate alone made the visit worth it. Yes, it's a touristy spot, and the wait to sit down can be long, but now I understand why it's on so many Madrid must-visit lists. If you're visiting Madrid, I'd say it's worth stopping by for the classic churros con chocolate. Just do takeout if you don't want to wait forever for a table!

Worst time to be hungry as most restaurants are closed between 4 pm and 8 pm. I bought some croissants, plain, custard (very thin) and chocolate filled. All less than €1 (about €0.60-0.80) for a big size. They looked similar to ones at most super market.. Nothing special but omg.. It tastes so good. All taste like ones I could get freshly in the morning. I was so happy to find this pastry/bakery. I will definitely go back whenever I want fresh bread or pastries. Highly recommend.

It's located right near the soccer stadium and the shop is super cute and spacious but it might be hard to find a spot to sit inside because a lot of people come visit. While searching for a place to sit and kill time before dinner, we found this place on Yelp and were lured in by the egg tarts. Three seats at a counter on uncomfortable stools did not really fit the bill. I actually could not find a stable position on the wobbly stools. The shop itself is quite small, and the pastries were not super buttery. If you liken it to a Chinese egg custard tart, I would say this crust was thinner, crisper/crunchier/harder, the pastry itself was quite greasy, and the custard itself is less creamy and tastes a little too strongly of cinnamon.
