We attended a fabulous wedding here at the University Club of Pasadena in late September. This…read morehistoric club founded in 1922 made for a beautiful venue in a great location. The couple was able to personalize with photos and memorabilia set up on shelves in the breezeway inset area which was a sweet touch. The wedding ceremony took place outdoors on the Garden Patio. It was a gorgeous but warm, very sunny day and the seating on the right side could have perhaps used a sail shade of some sort as it was blindingly bright and quite warm on that side! It's a small thing as the ceremony was short, but thought I'd mention for anyone considering the space at a time of year when that's a factor. After the ceremony, we walked into the adjacent 1922 Lounge for the cocktail hour. This was a wonderful space with an eye-catching bar area, lots of seating and high tops, as well as plenty of room to mingle. We loved the signature cocktails and the passed hors d'oeuvres were absolutely delicious and plentiful! Onto the reception in the huge "Main Dining Room" with vaulted wood beam ceilings, chandeliers and warm hardwood flooring. Everything was configured beautifully, food was again delicious and the venue staff was excellent. I loved that you could retreat to the garden patio or other areas within the club when you needed a quiet moment! So from a guest's point of view, the University Club of Pasadena was the perfect venue for a wedding or any event for that matter. Great location, facility, food and staff!

My law firm recently had our holiday party at the Jonathan Club. For regular schmucks like myself,…read morethe Jonathan Club is a private members only club with two locations - Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles. Membership prices are too rich for my blood, so this was most likely the only chance I would ever come here as you have to know a member. Naturally, lawyers have money to spend so our firm has some members. The DTLA location has very nice if dated grounds. Our party was on the rooftop so we got some good views of downtown as we chowed down and drank the afternoon away. Their bar on the second floor was where the real party was at. All the servers had good pours and were friendly. If you get the chance to visit the Jonathan Club, don't hesitate to jump at the chance!

It is an exclusive club so you have to be a member or invited by members to use the club. The facilities are a bit old, or be nicely maintained. They've updated the rooms and bathrooms nicely so no worries for modern comfort. I think their facilities, for example, nice banquet, halls, and rooms, would be great for private events. However, for their price point, I think there are many modern hotels in this area, for example, the Intercontinental, that would be better value for your money.

The drinks are tastefully mix and you feel right at home. I was expecting my pretzel bites to be stale as most bars with food aren't that great but they were soft and salted. We got on the waitlist for billiards and were able to start playing immediately. It was $20 for one hour and we played for two hours. The drinks were wonderful, my friend and I shared a purple ube cocktail and a fresh lemony gin cocktail. I can't remember what they were called but they were so tasty that we ordered a second round. The live music also made everything so special. The performers were absolutely incredible. It was a little bit crowded in there, which would be fine if people didn't keep crowding standing around where they shouldn't be. Last call for drinks was 1:30am, and I think last call for food was 12:30am. At 1:30 we were told to move away from the games area and go upstairs. Everythung was great until I heard a bartender say that me and my friend were overstaying our welcome ... it was barely 1:45 and we were finishing our drinks. That was rude... After that we were told we still had 5mins. I guess we'll leave early next time. It was just rude to see bartenders point at us and loudly say we weren't welcome ...

If you miss a class, no one will care. - Teachers are great at their craft. They are nice people, wonderful dancers, and clearly explain the steps - Classes are affordable and you sign up a month at a time - The dance floor opens up after class ends and you can hang out/dance afterward Cons - Parking can be hit or miss depending on the time you arrive - No one wears masks, despite how close your faces get. From bad breath to body odor, to sticky hands, you experience it all. The main reason I chose not to continue is that I take the "follower" role and followers mostly just get led. I don't think followers learn as much as long as they have a good rhythm and a gentle understanding of the moves - which makes these classes not very worth it for me. It could be considered a fun, social activity - but I think "leads" gain much more from each class. This is neither a pro nor a con, but the style of the class allows individuals to rotate partners pretty much every 2-3 minutes, so you end up getting to dance with everyone in the class. The types of people you meet range from great to worst dancers, super young to super elderly, and very polite to straight-up rude.

They have a social dance after class which is free to students and great for practice and meeting new people! Also they have live bands play once in a while.

As soon as the elevator doors open, you can feel how fancy this social club is. The views of downtown are spectacular! I came with my coworkers for a Dine LA lunch and we were almost disappointed to be seated so quickly because we just wanted to look out the windows! We all ordered off the Dine LA menu (which was reasonably priced). For starters, I had the Ceasar Salad. For my entree, I had the Crispy Chicken Sando with fries. For dessert, I had the Chocolate Crunch Bar. Since I'm an accountant, naturally I needed to unwind from month-end with a drink, so I treated myself to a Nutcracker cocktail (whiskey). The waiters were great with refilling our waters and checking up on us while we waited for our food. When they took my plate away after I was done with my salad, they quickly brought another clean fork for the rest of the meal (pretty nice touch). Our entrees took a wee bit long to come, but it's not like we were dying to go back to the office anyways! The food was pretty dang good and very filling! Whether you want to treat yo' self, have a nice date night, or have a bougie outing with friends, City Club is top-tier in fine wining and dining in the city. One thing worth mentioning - they add an automatic 20% service charge for all food and beverage, so know before you go! There also is a dress code, but if you're dressed business casual you got no worries. I could never afford the membership for this social club, but the restaurant is chef's kiss!

Being perched high above downtown on floor 51 gives you that classic LA wow moment before the blindfolds even come out. The team checked in with us ahead of time about allergies and dietary preferences, and we were able to choose our protein (fish, chicken, red meat, vegetarian, etc.). After being seated, we were each given a blindfold and served a multi-course meal without knowing what we were eating. Eating without sight is wild. Fun fact: most of what we think of as "taste" actually comes from sight and smell, so taking vision out of the equation completely rewires how your brain experiences food. Every bite turned into a guessing game, and we were laughing the whole time trying to figure out what flavors we were picking up. At the end, the chef came out to reveal each dish, and hearing what we actually ate versus what we thought we ate was half the fun. We even fed each other while blindfolded, which was chaotic, hilarious, and instantly a core memory. Perfect for date night or something different. These events don't happen all the time, so if you see it pop up again, don't overthink it, book it.

Review of the LCFCC as a wedding venue…read more My daughter recently got married, and chose the La Canada Flintridge Country Club for the location. If the clouds hadn't swept it, it has excellent views including a view of downtown LA on a good (not hazy) day. The bar service was very good - they tracked every drink sold. The table service and food were also quite nice and friendly. Some tips: If you are walking outside on the ceramic tile floor and it's humid or misting, be careful - it can be quite slippery. The dance floor was around 25' x 25' and accommodated the DJ and lighting with no problems. Sight lines in the indoor facility were good. We had to shift from outdoor to indoor due to mist and rain. The facility flexed with no problems at all, making this seamless and STRESSLESS for the bride and groom. The staff was professional, and they kept the facility running well.
