Our first meeting with Dr. Blau was very positive. We had confidence she's is the one who might…read morehelp my wife. However, after she wasn't accepted to the clinical trial Dr. Blau has been running - her attitude towards my wife has changed dramatically. We waited for weeks upon weeks to hear *anything* from NWMS (Northwest Medical Specialties) or Dr. Blau. She only called us once and after that we had calls from NWMS to schedule an appointment with her may be once a month - all the while my wife's situation was deteriorating on a weekly and then daily basis. There was no care provided, nobody at NWMS (least of all Dr. Blau) was willing to appeal our medical insurance when they refused to cover the trial drug. We were totally and utterly left on our own devices. Prior to a clinical trial when my wife was found to have a new brain lesion (practically a death sentence, you know) Dr. Blau couldn't be bothered to pick up a phone and talk to us *for almost a week*! And then it was "Well, doctor, should we do something about it, like may be scheduling another Gamma Knife procedure? - Sure, go ahead and schedule it with Harborview." Well, excuse me, what have you been doing for the last week once you learned my wife has a new brain lesion?! Definitely, not trying to schedule anything on your end. Later, other providers would be spending *weeks* chasing Dr. Blau to simply speak with her on the phone about my wife's medical condition because we were "lucky" to have her as our primary oncologist and it was way too late to switch providers. On top of everything else, her office submitted my wife to a series of very costly tests (FoundationOne being one of them, be careful if she mentions one) which later considered charging us their full cost - Dr. Blau or anybody else in the clinic didn't think it would be a good idea to discuss with us a potential cost of tests if a patient isn't accepted to a clinical trial. But why am I not surprised - obviously, neither Dr. Blau neither her staff at NWMS (except very few people) gives too much thought about the patients physical and emotional well-being. UPDATE: that was taken care of later, we're not responsible for FoundationOne bill any more. In short, I wouldn't recommend anyone to start care with Dr. Blau. If, God forbid, your situation gets complicated and you are not accepted to the clinical trial she's running - she will immediately drop your case, leave you out in the cold, take vacations, holidays, travel to conferences all she wants while you'll be waiting in vain for somebody to get in touch with you about anything - that's exactly what happened to us . When my wife passed away I contacted all doctors one by one who were actually fighting for her life and thanked them all sincerely, knowing they did the best they could. Dr. Blau doesn't deserve this. She did absolutely nothing to help or at the very least comfort my wife emotionally when the end was inevitable and she was suffering the most. An absolutely cold and careless doctor we met in our lives. Let this review be my wife's last words about a horrible treatment she received at Northwest Medical Specialties with Dr. Blau.

Dr Blau is literally a life saver. She has been my wife's oncologist for what, 8 years now? She not…read moreonly follows the literature and the established protocols, she has a very deep and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of these anomalies we call "cancer", and has always been willing and able to answer any and all questions with brilliance and compassion. I've seen some negative reviews in this forum, but I won't get into emotionally charged debates with people I don't know and can't comment on their personal experience. Analytically and intellectually, Dr Blau is a true hero. And for a doctor, we want analytical and intellectual as primary qualities.

Unfortunately - I won't be going there again and will seek follow-up care from other physicians. Getting treatment here requires that I pay two co-payments for a single visit. I have to pay one copayment to see the doctor and a second copayment because I saw the doctor at the regional cancer center - which is where the physician's office is located. Essentially - I have to pay a facility charge to rent the exam room. This is a bogus charge that the Multicare charges to offset their expenses in general. I had been recommending Multicare but, unfortunately, can no longer do so. Having to pay copayments and the uncovered charges is bad enough but having to make TWO copayments for a single visit is bad medicine. I asked them to waive the copay portion (my portion) since they had already collected from my insurance company but they refused and the phone agent, Robert, would not escalate my request to get it waived. I can pay one copayment but two is too much. They've lost my business. There are plenty of good doctors at facilities that don't make money grabs like this.

Lots of nice people there feel that my chemo treatments or what I needed to get the job done, but still there was lots that could've been improved in other areas. Miscommunication amongst the staff that were big-time wasters for me, such as get a certain app get the code at the front desk, go to the front desk, they don't have a code. That happened multiple times. Payment problems, getting a prescription wait time and confusion, wear a mask in the infusion center, don't wear a mask in the infusion center. The mask thing was a real concern, since it was an open area, and visitors walking through not wearing masks. when employee would say there's no protocol for wearing masks in the infusion center, yet a nurse would say it's very important to wear masks in the infusion center because patients are vulnerable with their white blood cell counts being so low. Bottom line, it didn't make me feel safe. There was a woman at the front desk that was very abrupt, I would say rude not anything anyone needs when they're in such a vulnerable position. The oncologist that I had, was very difficult to understand with his thick accent and a mask. He sent me to a radiation oncologist that wanted to do something very outdated, harmful and unnecessary. Once the Chemo was over, I got the heck out of there and went to Fred Hutch.
