The better thing to do, however, is take your best tweeds to St Pauls (theyre only telling you Montpelier to make you feel safer), turn off Ashley Road on to York Road, and you will see a mischievously graffitied building upon which is daubed the nomenclature of this fantastic establishment. Inside you will see, for a third of the price, the finest collection of baked goodies in all of Bristol. Pick some up. Pay for them. Take them home. Eat them. Feel proud that you have been to "the dangerous part of town". Save yourself from the ridiculous expense of exported Herberts bread, forever!

On to the food: The menu is pretty small but everything looks and sounds great. It's not your normal breakfast/brunch menu. I wanted everything on it, but We both went for the seared steak with potatoes cheese bake and poached eggs. It was absolutely amazing! The potatoes was different to what I expected, but probably better. I had a lemon grass and goner tea while Soph had a fresh orange juice. Both were great, nothing out of the ordinary, just very good! Definitely a contender for the best breakfast in Bristol. The beetroot cake was utterly divine, lightly spiced and filled with scrummy orange cream cheese, with little crunchy pumpkin seed surprises all the way through. We had to do the same again to get out as the staff had bolted it closed again. Once inside there was no place for the pram. The table seating in the rear is down the corridor and up several steps. If you have a baby in a pram this is definitely a take out place only...if you can get in the door to splash out on bread and toppings.

However, I was out and about running errands and I popped in for one of their malted wheat sourdoughs (I promise that I was not engaging in corporate espionage, I just wanted some bread OK?). The bread was a sensation. I am excellent at making homechurned butter, and therefore my need for well-prepared bread is exceptionally great. I can confirm to all that this was a satisfactory partner. I was interrogating the cashier about this and he was a bit confused about my clearly stated needs, but otherwise friendly. Joe's Bakery is as 90's as you could ever wish for; bread stacked in the window, donuts on glass fronted shelves and a fly zapper stuck to the wall. But, as old school as it is, everything they sell is fantastic! I popped in yesterday for the first time in months and grabbed a cheeky donut and was greeted with a welcoming "alright love" by one of the staff. There's no sitting down and having a coffee and natter here, but you'll have a good chin wag while you order and walk away with some of the best baked good in Bristol. I'm a BIG fan!

Yummy stuff is what they do best here and if you've got a sweet tooth like mine you'll be hooked after one visit.
