My best advice. STAY AWAY!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY. I honestly don't even know where to start. I've been…read morecontemplating this review for a long time. The first day I moved here I hated it. Let's start at all they care about is your money: You have your base rent ( which is ridiculously high), on top of that add on $15 each car for parking with no assigned parking so if you get home late at night your not guaranteed a spot. On top of that tack on an additional approximately $150 for water, sewage, and garbage that's divided by everyone in the community no matter if you have 2 people or 4 people living there. Let's not forget the amenities. For some reason my husband wasn't on the lease they wanted me to pay $100 for an application. I laughed. So after paying ridiculous amount of money. Theres always something that happens at Avalon and THERES NO CAMERAS. If you see a cop it's no surprise anymore. Almost every other day the cops are here for many different reasons. As a matter of fact they're here now as I'm writing this at 2am when I have to be at work 8am. TONIGHT IS MY LAST STRAW. This was too close for comfort: my husband was a witness to Car theft 10 minutes after I walked in the door by my self from working a late night. Then we have Domestic violence, drug deals in day light, needles juts sitting by the entrance to the building. If I think hard I'm sure I can name plenty more. Look I get it this can happen anywhere but I pay A LOT of money to be in a safe, family friendly environment. TONIGHT I don't feel safe and I would never want to bring up a child in this environment. What's it gonna take to install cameras? The cops asked maybe if anyone had cameras outside their apartment HE LAUGHED WHEN I TOLD HIM THERE WERE NO CAMERAS AND WERE NOT ALLOWED TO INSTALL OUR OWN. I'm glad the owners, managers, and anyone else affiliated with Avalon can sleep peacefully tonight.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Lofts at Helmetta and would recommend to everyone…read more Pros: 1. facilities are well maintained and super nice. the gyms, lounges, grill area and parking lots are always on point 2. staff is very friendly. Michelle was always really kind to us and very helpful whenever we had issues. there is no such thing as perfect and we did have a couple of ceiling leaks being on the top floor, which, is to be expected. Michelle, Jeannine, & the maintenance team were always wonderful whenever we had issues. replied to us right away and were able to resolve things almost immediately. 3. AFFORDABLE! i cannot stress this enough. you get everything you would living in a luxury complex but at a fraction of the price 4.plenty of amenities within the apartment like washer/dryer, dishwasher, hardwood floors, etc. 5. pet friendly! so many cute doggies to play with :) 6. park & lake right across the street! 7. the parking lot is always shoveled during snow storms!!!!! THANK YOU! Cons: 1. the train. obviously nothing that the staff can do about this one, but just something to keep in mind. the train does usually come around 10pm. it's really loud and will cause everything in your apartment to shake a little. we could literally see the debris falling from our ceiling because we had wooden planks on the top floor. it only lasts a few seconds, but it is pretty scary for pets and small children. manageable but i wish they were more explicit about this. when we first toured, we asked if the train would be an issue and they told us the train only comes during the middle of the day when people are at work so we would most likely never be bothered by it. this was very much so not true lol. 2. the pool situation. the pool is SO nice, but it's not particularly well maintained. the lifeguards are very young and don't do a great job of cleaning the pool out. you'll also find that the pool is packed every weekend, usually because residents are bringing a ton of family members and guests. I'm pretty sure there are people from the neighboring towns who just come to use the pool. not a big deal, but it can get pretty messy during the summers. 3. this may not be a con for some people but, it's not an ideal location if you enjoy eating out or doing things at night. getting good food is usually a minimum 15+ minute drive. there are no nice nearby bars. there are some decent food places pretty close by, but overall, not much to do in the area and you do have to drive a bit to reach main highways and roads. but, if you are looking for a more quiet, secluded apartment, this is definitely the place.

My fiancé & I lived here for about a year & a half. We moved in when it was brand new construction…read more It used to be a factory building years ago. We actually watched our apartment being built which was really cool. We had an OKAY experience. To let people in the building, a guest types in your apartment number & it calls the phone number you used to set it up. For example- my fiancé & I both lived there. He was away on business & I had my parents stop by. When they came, the call went to his phone while he was out of the country & there was nothing we could do about it. He just had to let them in. The pool rules are SO WEIRD. You have bands for entry but can't have guests. Hours are strange. No music allowed. Basically no fun allowed lol There is storage underneath the building but the amount of space you get is ridiculous. Don't bother try to store your Christmas tree down there because it won't fit. You can store your bike though, it kind of just hangs on the walls. There are carts available for residents to use to bring things to & from your apartment. There are only 3/4 for 2 entrances & you're supposed to bring them down back to the door when you're done but no one ever does. Imagine going to the grocery store, coming home to get a cart & there are none, so you grab as many as you can, get all the way up to your door & see a cart someone left in the hallway- ANNOYING. People do that all the time. When you get the keys you get an actual key & a fob. The fob is what you scan in order to get into the building, you use the key to unlock & lock your door. They also give you ONE key for the mailbox. Washer & dryer in unit- HATED both. The dryer always stopped when it shouldn't have. We got the Kodiak apartment design, which we liked because there was a little nook which we thought would be perfect for a sectional couch. We were told that the nook runs through the entire building because that's where the old factory's elevator was- pretty cool! The bedroom closet we had was sad. It was barely a closet. We had zero space for our clothes. The #1 reason we couldn't stay there, we outgrew it before we even moved in. VERY nice game room & community area on the first floor near the lobby. That's where we had our housewarming party- we had 70 people come!!! I doubt they let anyone have parties there after that LOL FYI The building is along train tracks & the trains are LOUD & sometimes run in the middle of the night & early morning.

When you call them back and ask, the male manager will literately threaten you! Very bad experience! Parking is very limited. If you come home later than 8pm, there won't be any common parking. The building is old. If you live on the first floor, good luck with all kinds of Cockroaches! The heating was very strong during winter and spring, and it's not adjustable at all.

If you have problems they come and help as soon as they can. When it snows they clean up the lot and sidewalks pretty good. The landscape is pretty well kept. It feels like you are quite at home with the trees, flowers, and green grass. I got to know my neighbors pretty well. They are nice people - students, singles, families, elders. It is a good mix. Also It was great to have a balcony and the laundry facility is right outside the parking lot. The location is also great for public transportation. It's 8 minutes to catch the Suburban bus by NJ Turnpike on rt18, 7 min drive down to New Brunswick train and about 10 min to Edison train station. Highland Park is a great walking town with lots of culture and diversity. You can walk to post office, grocery store, church, and restaurants. And also there are 2 parks to get some exercise - Donaldson Park at the end of the road and Johnson Park (bigger) 10 min away. The apartment is also within an hr from NY city, the jersey shore, and Philadelphia - plus or minus traffic of course.

From our spacious and beautiful apartment to the facilities to the management, everything about Plaza Square is wonderful. As a result of the pandemic, many amenities (gym, pool, lounge) were restricted but accessible nonetheless. It actually meant a lot that management cared so much for the health and safety of its residents and did their best to accommodate everyone's need for leisure and exercise safely. I love that Plaza Square has many unique layouts for its apartments, and is arranged in a way that allows a lot of light into the rooms. Our early days weren't very smooth (high utilities bills, internet issues) but management was super responsive and did their best to resolve them. Management makes a HUGE difference in the quality of where one lives, and I honestly believe Plaza Square has the best of the best in NB. They have been so responsive and engaged with the community since we moved here. A few friends who live in neighboring complexes have outwardly expressed feeling envious when they hear me rave about this place. Besides that, Plaza Square has outdoor and garage parking options, a cute dog run (with lots of pandemic doggies!), a gym, a beautiful lounge and pool, a great mailing system and clean and renovated spaces. There's not much else one could ask for. The only tip I would provide is to pick apartments away from the highway. They cost a little more, but are completely worth it for the lack of noise at night. We will unfortunately be moving out of state in a few months due to work, but if we could stay or had friends looking for a place in New Brunswick, we would recommend and sign with Plaza Square in a heartbeat.

Honestly, this place is OK if you want to worry about your car being damaged and being submerge under water during rainy/hurricane season. Or having the fire alarm constantly go off. Or having to step in dog poop every few days. Or having the sprinklers broken, leaving your doorway soaking wet and stinking of mold and being a health hazard. Your car parking spots would be taken up by random cars from the public (esp if you're parking on the top deck). Hallways are not camera monitored, so you'll probably end up finding dog poop at 8am in the morning while you walk to the nearest elevator and there's nothing management can do about it. Let's see what else? Your neighbors can be inconsiderate and the walls are paper thin. Garage doors actually never works, (but you wont know this until you're already deep 2 months into your rent and you constantly see everyone complaining and management does nothing) & there have been a lot of thefts. Garage panels are caving and falling in. The side doors (by the parking deck) do not lock, so anyone can come in. You pay trash fees, but you got to constantly bring your boxes down to the trash area? Not a big deal, but I am saying you're going to pay money for something that does not make sense, Plaza square used to be great prior to Covid, but boy are we glad to move further away to the city and pay more to experience nothing of the above! The only great thing about plaza is their OG maintenance crew. Over the past 2.5 years, we've made at least 30 friends (those kind where you actually have their numbers) in the community, there's only 7 who is currently living there now due to the increasing number of issues happening within the apartment complex. Also heard (and was verified by a few current tenants) that new management lacks communication with their tenants. There was no communication/updates about the recent water pipe burst that damaged over 30 apartments and the garage. That said, we don't care if they increase the rent, but why are we paying for the same things year after year and the building 's integrity is turning for the worse?
