My fiancé & I lived here for about a year & a half. We moved in when it was brand new construction. It used to be a factory building years ago. We actually watched our apartment being built which was really cool. We had an OKAY experience. To let people in the building, a guest types in your apartment number & it calls the phone number you used to set it up. For example- my fiancé & I both lived there. He was away on business & I had my parents stop by. When they came, the call went to his phone while he was out of the country & there was nothing we could do about it. He just had to let them in. The pool rules are SO WEIRD. You have bands for entry but can't have guests. Hours are strange. No music allowed. Basically no fun allowed lol There is storage underneath the building but the amount of space you get is ridiculous. Don't bother try to store your Christmas tree down there because it won't fit. You can store your bike though, it kind of just hangs on the walls. There are carts available for residents to use to bring things to & from your apartment. There are only 3/4 for 2 entrances & you're supposed to bring them down back to the door when you're done but no one ever does. Imagine going to the grocery store, coming home to get a cart & there are none, so you grab as many as you can, get all the way up to your door & see a cart someone left in the hallway- ANNOYING. People do that all the time. When you get the keys you get an actual key & a fob. The fob is what you scan in order to get into the building, you use the key to unlock & lock your door. They also give you ONE key for the mailbox. Washer & dryer in unit- HATED both. The dryer always stopped when it shouldn't have. We got the Kodiak apartment design, which we liked because there was a little nook which we thought would be perfect for a sectional couch. We were told that the nook runs through the entire building because that's where the old factory's elevator was- pretty cool! The bedroom closet we had was sad. It was barely a closet. We had zero space for our clothes. The #1 reason we couldn't stay there, we outgrew it before we even moved in. VERY nice game room & community area on the first floor near the lobby. That's where we had our housewarming party- we had 70 people come!!! I doubt they let anyone have parties there after that LOL FYI The building is along train tracks & the trains are LOUD & sometimes run in the middle of the night & early morning. read more

Remember that saying, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me? That is a really good rule to govern your decision making at this property. Viewing this development? - Shame on The Lofts at Helmetta for drawing you in with their marketing B.S. Signed a lease here? - Shame on you for being so stupid! For the avoidance of doubt, if you move here, you are at the mercy of the Property Manager. To be clear, this Property Manager constructively dismisses any colleague who is smart and has an ounce of common sense or calls the Property Manager out on their lies. Two staff have left so far and the only one that is left is the one that they are able to put the fear of God into (or they are just plain stupid for staying). Here's a few updates for you since my first review: 1) The landlord does not care about you. You are nothing but a check for their shoddy construction efforts. 2). First Amendment rights are not welcome here. If you write a negative review (like here on Yelp!), the Property Manager will be sure to consult with Counsel and see if you can be evicted (which you cannot). Heck they will even send you a Cease and Desist notice based on trumped up allegations, that under a deposition at Civil Trial would be shot down because the allegations are B.S. and the accusers are friends and employees of the landlord. 3). If you withhold rent because of their shoddy construction and the fact that the unit has habitability issues, you will be sued. How dare you stand up to this landlord for their poor workmanship. 4). You offer to pay said rent just to get rid of the headache? They will limit your options in an effort to get you evicted. 5) Contractors will deal and imbibe in Schedule I drugs and then return to work. (This likely explains some of the construction issues). Does no one here care about Health and Safety? 6). Have kids? Don't move here. Contractors will whistle at minors and the Property Manager doesn't give a damn. You will be advised that Construction have been notified - doesn't help in the event that your child is kidnapped and killed. Seriously, do we know who these people are that the developer allows on site, particularly when they don't care about your complaints and rock up to the job looking like they were picked up off Rt 18 that same morning. 7). Friends of the developer will be up in your business. They know who they are and they makes no apologies for the fact that they are "a friend of the developer". B*tch, sit your ass down, no one cares, least me and if you open your rat mouth again, the community are likely going to verbally put you in your place. 8). Liar Liar, Pants on Fire. That is what our Property Manager is called. Don't address them by their name because Liar is exactly what they are. Anything to save their ass and protect their job. According to their version of events, I withheld rent because of a cracked sink and a couple of other cosmetic issues. No. I withheld rent because of your cheap construction. Issues with the air conditioning, the electrics, the overall quality of construction, the problem with the mantle getting so hot it would likely combust and a laundry list of other issues - you know, stuff you would never tolerate yourself. Guess what? If you had done your job, we would NOT be here right now, but we are because you cannot do your job. I moved to suburbia for a quiet life, to take my foot off the gas and chill out. Unfortunately, I ended up with a cowboy landlord who has henchmen to make your life a misery. Come at me bro? Do not think that I won't fight back! Your reputation as a landlord proceeds you and the community knows your true colors. read more

So far I have interacted with the leasing staff probably about 10 times, and every time they have been very professional, they have been eager to explain things. This has been a very good experience. I have lived here for about one month and have had no issues, there were bad reviews written earlier which I do not understand. Yes there is a train nearby but it does not come by every day, we hear it around 12:00 noon and sometimes around 9:30pm 1 day a week, it hasn't been a big factor. read more

It's not just us, it's also out neighbors and to be frank, we're looking forward to moving out because the property manager is a liar and the company that built these homes cut many corners. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Lofts at Helmetta and would recommend to everyone. Pros: 1. facilities are well maintained and super nice. the gyms, lounges, grill area and parking lots are always on point 2. staff is very friendly. Michelle was always really kind to us and very helpful whenever we had issues. there is no such thing as perfect and we did have a couple of ceiling leaks being on the top floor, which, is to be expected. Michelle, Jeannine, & the maintenance team were always wonderful whenever we had issues. replied to us right away and were able to resolve things almost immediately. 3. AFFORDABLE! i cannot stress this enough. you get everything you would living in a luxury complex but at a fraction of the price 4.plenty of amenities within the apartment like washer/dryer, dishwasher, hardwood floors, etc. 5. pet friendly! so many cute doggies to play with :) 6. park & lake right across the street! 7. the parking lot is always shoveled during snow storms!!!!! THANK YOU! Cons: 1. the train. obviously nothing that the staff can do about this one, but just something to keep in mind. the train does usually come around 10pm. it's really loud and will cause everything in your apartment to shake a little. we could literally see the debris falling from our ceiling because we had wooden planks on the top floor. it only lasts a few seconds, but it is pretty scary for pets and small children. manageable but i wish they were more explicit about this. when we first toured, we asked if the train would be an issue and they told us the train only comes during the middle of the day when people are at work so we would most likely never be bothered by it. this was very much so not true lol. 2. the pool situation. the pool is SO nice, but it's not particularly well maintained. the lifeguards are very young and don't do a great job of cleaning the pool out. you'll also find that the pool is packed every weekend, usually because residents are bringing a ton of family members and guests. I'm pretty sure there are people from the neighboring towns who just come to use the pool. not a big deal, but it can get pretty messy during the summers. 3. this may not be a con for some people but, it's not an ideal location if you enjoy eating out or doing things at night. getting good food is usually a minimum 15+ minute drive. there are no nice nearby bars. there are some decent food places pretty close by, but overall, not much to do in the area and you do have to drive a bit to reach main highways and roads. but, if you are looking for a more quiet, secluded apartment, this is definitely the place. read more

The building manager, Anna and Mark will pull the good old bait and switch. They gave myself and my significant a rate and discounts on July 8, 2017. Today, we went to look at another apartment style and maybe settle on an apartment, but they stated that it would cost more and the payments were different with the waived fees and rent NOT as told. We were told by Anna that the Main Building apartments were 2 months of rent waived and application fees waived. I also called Mark today (I have been in constent contact with Anna and Mark for appointments) to verify an appointment when my significant other got there, they sold it. He could not even call to cancel the appointment or show us another apartment similar. read more

Luxury pricing for cheap service- The Property Manager is an unprofessional gossip hound. She has shared personal details with other tenants and construction workers on more than one occasion. Escalating the issue to regional management is absolutely useless because they are personal friends outside of work. Take it a step further? Sure, copy the owner of the development Kaplan Properties. No one responds to your emails or concerns. The next day the Property Manager you were complaining about goes around to other tenants and tells them the owner laughs at your emails! How extremely unprofessional is that?!?! Not all tenants are treated the same- If you dare complain about the Property Manager to one her friends you will receive a Cease and Desist. The very same situation can happen between two tenants and another Kaplan employee but no Cease and Desist letters to be sent. Why? Only when HER feelings are hurt will an action be taken and it will be legal action. I can't wait to see the retaliation from this yelp review, I'm sure there will be something! It will be in a legal or financial form of course..... Complain about smoking? Again, not all tenants are treated the same. The Property Manager will tell one tenant she can't do anything about the smoking and another tenant that they have to purchase a specific filter for their home due to complaints. The only consistency is that there is no consistency! You get whatever mood she's in. To help her I sent her information explaining my rights to fresh air trump any smokers right to smoking......what happened? Nothing! She ignored the email and didn't respond. How dare I ask her to do her JOB? In the summer a couple of construction workers inappropriately whistled at my daughter and two nieces while walking to the pool. It was extremely uncomfortable. I complained to the Property Manager, her response was that she will mention it in their weekly meeting. Follow up? None. I sent her a follow up request to which she copied and pasted her original answer and said she brought it up at the meeting. What action was taken against those workers? The company they represented while onsite? Nothing. They were back the next day whistling at another tenants child. Kaplan doesn't care. The biggest problem I have with this location is the Property Manager. Things can be fixed, her management style cannot. Kaplan Properties has no regards for their customers because they let this woman do whatever she wants and no one has stepped in to coach or train her. Your opinion does not matter here. Your peace, does not matter here. Your safety does not matter here. You concerns will not be addressed. read more

I have lived in the lofts for about a year and a half. I'm on my second lease. I started in a one bedroom and then moved into a 2 bedroom. I'm extremely happy here. The apartments are beautiful. The amenities are so enjoyable, and I have so many great neighbors. One of the best things about living here is the maintenance. I am specifically referring to Pete. He is so on top of everything. Anytime I have any issue, he always addresses it immediately and effectively with a respectful demeanor and a smile on his face. The only thing I don't understand is why he isn't the maintenance manager! He is a key factor in my happiness here as a tenant. read more

I am more than a little confused by all of the negative ratings that the Lofts at Helmetta has received. I moved in on Feb. 1st, 2019 and cannot say enough positive, wonderful things about my experience here thus far. The building (lobby, hallways, common areas etc.) and grounds are kept impeccably. The leasing staff, property manager and live in maintenance staff have all been so friendly, helpful, kind and welcoming. They have all gone above and beyond to answer my questions and have been extremely patient with me as sometimes I can be unintentionally "difficult." The residents of the building have all been extremely welcoming as well. Daily, I am met with smiling faces and friendly hellos in passing by. Elevator rides are always filled with friendly small talk. The hallways are quiet, I have often wondered If I am the only one that lives on my floor lol As far as noise, this is an apartment, yes sometimes you can hear noise from surrounding units and your neighbors. It has never once been anything even remotely close to complaint worthy. I was concerned as many residents have dogs, I myself have an elderly senior dog who no longer enjoys the advancements of wagging tails from playful pups... everyone is so respectful with their dogs and of my dog. I have told all of the staff here that I never want to leave. I could easily make this my "forever home." read more

Staff was friendly at first, showed us a few apartments available. We were told we would definitely hear back from their office the next day...nothing. We waited another day, giving them the benefit of possibly being "busy", and still not a word. Finally, wondering what could be the hold up, we called and no one answered the phone. Left a brief message, and still no return call. We phoned later that day to hear this; "oh, Michelle was supposed to call you back, she didn't?".... To inky find out there was a glitch on our credit report, which they couldn't give two craps about hearing. Okay, better off anyway! I believe we.d gave made a bug mistake renting at the Lofts from reading so many terrible reviews and also hearing word if mouth from people we met. I'm happy to say, my husband and I found an adorable house, totally renovated, in a desirable neighborhood with a backyard for our dog...and for less. Shop around, don't settle, my best advise. Seems these people are not compassionate (or should I say you'll get dropped like a hot potato) if don't "make their standards of excellence." read more

So far so good. I live in one of the townhouses and it's pretty nice. It's very spacious for the price. It's quiet too. We hear cargo trains pass by but it's never unpleasant to hear. We don't hear the neighbors too much. A little bit of noise from neighbors is unavoidable anywhere. Our townhouse has a fireplace with a light switch hooked up to it, which is a nice feature to have. The closets are huge and there are 6 of them throughout the townhouse. There is a big walk in laundry room on the second floor. The bathrooms are pretty standard and nothing special. The sink doesn't include a garbage disposal which is a downside to this place. I'm not really sure why since it was built in 2015 and garbage disposals are standard. The washer, dryer, refrigerator, and dishwasher are standard. Kitchen appliances are stainless steal and cabinets are a dark brown. The cabinets are decent quality and there is a lot of space. read more

My wife and I have resided here for nearly a year, and this is truly an amazing place to live. The neighbors and the staff are fabulous and the Maintenance team consists of a couple of hardworking guys who believe in serving this fine community and helping it rise to the top. An incredible blessing. I recommend it but good luck trying to get into this increasingly popular enclave with its exceptional amenities. :) read more
