However if you are not Ivy+ bound, and/or have a student who is looking for well-rounded help in the overall college selection/admissions/financial aid process, I doubt this is where you should be looking. Starting in my junior year she sat down and really got to know the real me, beyond the resume and beyond the GPA. I left a job I'd worked at for almost a decade because HR/leadership here told me there would be upward momentum in my career in the advancement department. They were literally building a new building with a nursing room while telling me I could not bring my infant to work in case "a family heard them" over the phone. Hypocrites. Liars. After my maternity leave, which they greatly reduced my salary over, they claimed there was no room for me in advancement. I could only work the front desk and do admin work at very reduced hours, which was a stark difference from what they lured me away from my previous job for. I should mention I only had 4 weeks away from my desk because I took a few weeks off before due to pregnancy complications. I was back at work A MONTH after giving birth. They have very few employees, so there are no protections for someone like me. It's hilarious that they tout themselves as a progressive organization.

Overall though, I feel liked I learned a lot through their curriculum and that Career Services helped better prepare me for job interviews and applications. I would absolute recommend this bootcamp to friends, especially those who have some experience with programming as it will probably benefit them in the long run.

I really liked the structure of the classes and the ample resources available to us. The instructors were very accessible in the Discord channel and it was fun to work with people online. I had problems sharing my screen in the beginning and Cathy told me about hooking directly into the ethernet cable instead of using wifi. That did the trick. It was also very hard to see other people's screens because the print was so tiny. I invested in a 32" smart tv and that solved that problem. By the time I got everything together and was comfortable with everything, the class was over. I had a problem pairing with someone who kept their mic off in order to read the lesson. I had already read the lesson and didn't know what to do with myself. I should have contacted the teacher, instead I left the room with that person without an explanation and joined another group. I apologized to this person, privately after some thinking. That was my own personal problem and had nothing to do with Epicodus. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time, that I am amazed. I learned about the basics of coding, hooking up hardware, communicating online without visual cues from other classmates, as well as new apps that I have never heard of. When I think about the scope of what was accomplished in the Intro class, I give high marks to Epicodus. Thank you for offering this class for $100. But we would like her to do those things while leading a life that respects her fellow man/woman. Next to the door of one of the kindergarten rooms at Villa, the teacher has created a mural with the words, "Respect, Compassion, Self-Discipline, Citizenship, Trustworthiness, Honesty, Responsibility, Fairness, Perseverance, Integrity". The Villa Academy is not some haven for rich kids that merely gives lip service to these values. They walk the walk. Even the earliest preschool classes have seasonal projects that focus on helping others. Service to others is a main focal point. Our child's teachers have all been excellent. Small class sizes with classroom assistants keeps the classroom environment orderly and focused on learning. Mrs Olson, you ROCK. To an outsider, I'm sure Villa might appear to be a bastion of the WASPs. Be careful. As soon as you drop your guard, and stop viewing people as wealthy snobs, you just might discover that most parents at Villa are really very warm hearted folks. People go out of their way to help each other out. And Villa parents are very, very dedicated to both the kids and the school. While my child has benefited from Villa, I think I have grown as a person as well. For what its worth, there are plenty of folks who are not Catholic who send their kids to Villa, and quite a few who are not Christians. We are very, very happy Villa parents. I won't make light of the cost, its not cheap. But people send their children there for a reason, and its not to brag to the neighbors. Its an excellent school, and an excellent community.
