Can you say, YES to the question - have you ever made an in-store purchase for something very expensive such as a specialized guitar, and had a discount so deep you thought the salesman made a terrible, job-ending quote? I can say yes and I knew you could too! Today, a week later I bought a bass guitar and another guitars, this time an Ibanez acoustic-electric cutaway dreadnought body (steel string). I won't go into the details of the discount because of the ethics of good business, but jeepers! I have purchased musical instruments mostly in the U.S., but abroad as well, and let me say Barry Clark and his family offer customer service better than any place I have shopped. Sounds hyperbolic, huh? I saved a ton today and I have to admit I'm a little giddy about my purchases today. Man, oh man, no regrets on $1400+ purchase AND that's the discount pricing. No remorse in a situation where I usually come away sulking for a few days. That's another blog. As of today, there's a very nice, well-cared for Taylor hanging in the used area that I have my eye on. Barry's already asking a discounted price but I'm betting that someone with some negotiating skills will get a deep discount also, and practically run from the story thinking they just stole something. I went to one class and discovered that I was having trouble with chords, as I have arthritis in my hands. I played this uke a total of under a half hour. it's exactly as it was when purchased. I got it on Valentine's Day, which is three weeks ago. My mistake was not checking their return policy. I could have returned it for free on Amazon. So much for buying local. The owner told me he could 'buy it back', whatever. I just turned and left. Now I'm out $263.63. Am I wrong to think he could have made one exception?

A location where you can actually touch, feel, and play the instrument you are considering purchasing. It has been that way since they first opened. I have been going to Guitar Center since their first location, (different from the one of today) in Hollywood, California. And, whenever I'm in a new city, if I have some time to kill, I always like to check out the local Guitar Center. You never know what you will find. This is what I did with this location. Walking in, as is almost always the case, you will year some player noodling on a guitar through an amp. I don't know how the people who work at these stores put up with it, as it is more frequently than not very bad playing. As was the case when I walked into this shop. An elderly, longhair guy, playing some bad licks (loudly) on a Strat through an Orange amp. I guess you (and the employees) just must tune them out. Horrible! This Guitar Center is set up as most of them are. A lot of electric guitars along one wall. Acoustics in the back. Basses on the other wall. Synths and keyboards over in their own section. All Good. This location is fully stocked with all of the instruments and accessories you may need. The staff seemed very nice and did none of the hard-sell type of thing. So, if you're in the area, and you need some musical equipment, this may be your place to go.
