There's probably only about 15 stalls, but you could do a decent food shop here consisting of fruit & veg, milk, eggs, bread, fish, olives, every type of sausage you can imagine (I settled on pork leek and chilli), amazing cuts of pork and even pre-prepared goodies like pies, chutneys and cakes. And if you get hungry while browsing you can grab a little pie to eat there and then - I enjoyed my butternut squash & spinach, and my hubby devoured his chilli beef & cheddar before I could even snaffle some. If pie isn't your thing, there was also curries, toasted sarnies and all other sorts of goodies. There was also a stall selling hot drinks which even on this sunny Sunday had a sizeable queue. ...when can I go back?

They have a couple of bargain greengrocers, a meat specialist, a cake stand and even a Chinese takeaway stand (watch this one as I saw them pack the container with noodles and give just a little of the chicken on top - the favourite rip off tactics of this kind of stall). I browsed the stalls stopping at the bag stall, and especially the candle stall which filled the local area with the aroma of burning scents. Market is on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. There's nothing "special" about this Farmers Market in terms of what kind of stalls are there: the usual stall selling bangers, a Middle Eastern food stall, Jamaican/Carribean food and of course fruit and veg stands, meats, and other delicacies...a paradise for the London Yuppie! The tricky part about this Farmers Market is that its location switches depending on whether or not there's something going on at the convention centre within Alexandra Palace: if that is the case, the parking lot - where the market typically takes place - is used for its intended purpose and the Farmers Market will be relocated to a nearby school yard. My tip: I usually never know where it will be, but I'm just following the string of people with shopping bags...

It's not large, but the selection is excellent: homemade pies, organic fruit and veg, cheese, sausages and other meats, including a man who sells pigeon breast -- not appetising at all, but my cats would love it if I was the type of person who would spend £1 for a tablespoon of meat. Speaking of birds, I'm a sucker for free range eggs from chickens that roam around in fields. One of the vendors sells "ugly eggs," those with flaws in the shells for 80p a half dozen. Vendors who sell things grown and made locally can have a stall every week, others are only allowed to sell their wares once a month.

I lived in Colombia for 6 months a few years ago and this is not just the closest I've been since I'd say I'm pretty much there when I have a set meal - almuerzo at the back of the market. The first time I went past Sven Sisters underground station I walk ed right past it. If fact I only found it walking in to a cafe only to find it had a door at the back into this hidden Latino world. There was music playing sunny tunes, with children dancing around, old people just chatting away in Spanish. The place seems more on eone gaint social club than a load of shops. Had a huge meal with fresh juice, followed by a Colombain strong coffee. Than just enjoyed the vibe. Often pop in when passing. Top tip go on saturday for a hair cut, a meal, stock up on books, dvds, music for learning the language. Or just pop into for a coffee or frozen juice on a stick. And if all this eating and drinking gets too much there is always the suit and corset maker to hide the sins.
