So, I've been going to Drs. Kathryn and Mason Bell since they took over Hillcrest, since the very…read moresame day they saved my cat. My husband and I live on a farm with lots of outside cats, plus my 5 inside cats and two dogs, who are now deceased, needless to say we're there a lot. Because the good Drs know our situation they work with us so we don't end up living outside with the friggin cats. Along the way there has been many surgeries to which I've never had any problems in the subsequent. The staff are good peoples. They've been through a lot with us, especially Millie, Laura and Sydney. A few times I called Laura crying and she was always so sweet and honest. She spoke to me when I called crying over whether or not to put my dog, Norman, down like I was a friend, not a client. Sooo I'm not sure who these meanie staff member are. With that being said I have some thoughts on the negative reviews. Firstly, I agree about the prices. They have risen substantially and I get why they upsets people, however, no one is entitled to treatment. It's a business, not a charity. In my opinion they shouldn't charge for nail trimming or ear cleaning if you're there for something else. I'm from Jersey where everything is 3x more expensive and my vets back home didn't charge for these services. Regardless, we have a choice to pay or not, like everyone else. Secondly, they ALWAYS provide an itemized quote. And will stick to it barring extenuating circumstances. I do not believe people who say they're hit with unexpected costs. Statistically speaking, we would have the same thing happen as some point. Some of the negative comments seem fantastical to me. And some of the writing is proof our education system is an abject failure. Anywho, I definitely recommend these guys. The level of care outweighs the cost. Just don't be poor, I suppose.

I recently scheduled 3 surgeries for the stray cats that show up at our farm, 2 males and 1 female with 3 kittens. I paid the requested deposit per surgery. The day of the first two surgeries, one of the males was not around so I took only one in for the neuter. I explained to the receptionist that he is always around, but that the Utility company had arrived with heavy equipment to change out poles the day before and had spooked him. I was called after procedure to pick up between 12-4pm. I arrived 12:10pm. While preparing to pay for service I asked about the deposit for the missing cat if it would be applied to the rescheduled procedure and was informed that they had already posted the deposit for no show without 48 hr. notice. I get it, I work in dentistry and we also have that policy, however, we also listen to our patients and give grace when needed depending on their circumstance. I asked if they would consider waiving as I did let them know in advance, we were dealing with slightly still feral stray outdoor cats that I was trying to get spayed and neutered. Again, was told I'm sorry it's our policy. I paid and then waited 45 minutes for them to bring him out to me. I called the next morning to speak with office manager regarding the lost deposit. Again, told nothing they could do as it was office policy. I then politely cancelled the remaining surgeries and asked for the rest of deposit to be refunded to my card. I guess office policy of taking $50 is worth more than the thousands I would be spending on future business with them.

That night, we noticed she had very loose stool (diarrhea) with a distinct smell which continued through to her next checkup (7 days later). We assumed it was stress, however, the diarrhea continued. When we brought it up to the vet, she tested our puppy for the Giardia parasite in which she came back positive for. It has been 3.5 weeks, 4 vet visits, nearly $500.00 in vet bills and Cathy stands by her claim that there is no possibility the puppy could have contracted the parasite prior to myself taking receipt of her and will not be responsible for any vet bills. Please be aware that if your puppy is shipped, as many of the puppies through PuppyFind.com are, she uses a separate company to pick up puppies and then bring them to the airport. This could very well lead to unfit care given to a puppy prior to arrival to you, the buyer. The incubation period for the Giardia parasite is 7-14 days (as stated on many websites and by 2 separate veterinarians we saw for this problem). The recommendation of two separate veterinarians we saw was there could not have possibly been time for our puppy to contract the Giardia parasite and immediately (the same day of receiving her) show symptoms. It has also been stated by the vets that the continued result of positive tests (we have had 2 thus far) is a direct result of a very prolonged stage of the parasite. Unfortunately, there is no "puppy lemon law" in the state of Missouri, however, in the state of California, where I am located; it would be within my right to request the breeder to pay vet bills. Cathy did give me an option of returning the puppy for a refund. However, I would then be out the shipping cost of returning the puppy $250.00, the cost of the vet bills to date $456.96, the initial cost of shipping the puppy to me, $250.00 and in the end, no puppy. The cost would be $956.96 to have essentially, rented a puppy with a parasite for 3.5 weeks. Buyer beware.

Here is my experience with this animal hospital. Everything was good with them until I took our dog Maisey there for a stomach bug and annual shots and heart worms test. I had already taken a cat and my service dog there and had not had a problem. I give all our dogs and cats revolution for heart worms, fleas, and ticks. I find it superior to others and I like it's a once a month topical. This hospital does not sell it so I purchase and have always purchased through Chewy (just placed Remy's order without issue). This time when I put my info in Chewy couldn't get the hospital to confirm Maisey so I phoned. This is where I have the problem, suddenly there is now a $15 dollar fee for prescriptions each time for each one. This is outrageous, I've spent 19 years in the animal medical field and it never amazes me when a greedy veterinary hospital starts tacking on extra fees. Our dogs always get their annual shots and they even had the nerve to bump the dogs rabies vaccines back to a 1 year certificate instead of the proper 3 year. Maisey is over 12 years, Remy 5 years and a working service dog in the field; they have never missed their vaccines. Over vaccinating is the leading cause of carcinoma in canines. Instead of being honest and trustworthy they are out for $$$$$. I do not recommend this clinic. Do your research and find a clinic that respects the families and doesn't bleed them through the love of their pets.
