If the answer is 'Yes!', then I think you'll have a good experience at this venue. Linked with the lobby of one of Mudgee's oldest motels, you might think of demand-based opening hours and cooking standards. However, it looks like they want to encourage non-guest diners, as they post specials and promotions on their own Facebook page. The tables are nicely set up, with linen napkins and tablecloths, and real wine glasses rather than the less serious stuff of standard motels. Sure, service may at times be more quaint than quality, but they get the job done if you're not pretentious. Ooh, but the steak is sublime! Our 2-4-1 specials on a (unbooked) dinner Wednesday evening were faultlessly done as ordered - Medium Rare - and so much better than we've had in quite awhile. Meat is the reason you come here, and this did not disappoint. Local wine was generously served by the glass. I think this establishment is worthy of your consideration.

It is a rather infrequent combination where luxury and environmental sustainability merge, to create an unparalleled experience. With a focus on conservation, the lands protected by this property are vast and beautiful. Coming here is literally following Darwin's footsteps, including the 1932 homestead that has been restored. Horseback riding, mountain biking and watching wildlife are probably the top ways to spend time here. The more, the better. Each villa comes with a Trek bike to take to the bush. Observe wombats, wallabies and kangaroos throughout the property and surroundings. Gorgeous birds as well. The food and wine is inclusive. The wine selections are local and the inclusive ones are quite excellent. The meals are Michelin grade quality, from lamb, to pumpkin ravioli, to the waffles and pastries. All was a solid 5 stars. The design and conservation was paramount. No reusable plastics, refillable water bottles, solar power throughout. It's a hotel of the future. I won't ruin it for you, but it takes "picnics" to a whole new level. I also typically refuse to ride horses at resorts because they are rarely treated well but this is not the case here. The horses live in absolute luxury and the trainers are professional riders. The archery activity was also surprisingly fun! It's a relaxing and beautiful place. Me and my band of merry men epitomized the pioneer spirit of weekend warriors the world over and pointed our horses north west from Sydney and rode off toward the sunset of Turon Gates on a Friday after work. Arriving here in the dark was not the smartest move we've ever made so if you're inexperienced at putting tents together and unpacking or driving small roads in the dark, give yourselves plenty of time to get here during the day. The turn off just a stones throw outside Capertee is easily missed so be mindful of that. Then here comes the unnerving bit (at least it was in the dark). The drive from the gate to the managers place is probably around 15 to 20 minutes on very small dirt roads and not well sign posted. Just keep on the road and you will get there eventually, don't panic, like we did. We stopped off into the managers house and clearly had interrupted their dinner but were very warmly welcomed, given plenty of advice and pointers of stuff to do. They do take cash or Debit card only so remember to pack some dollery doos before you got to pay them. We camped and had one friend who got a basic hut. You can camp where you like, make a fire and sit back and relax. If you're city scum like most of us are you will not believe the night sky here it is truly incredible. The only sound is of nature. We didn't avail of any amenities or activities here bar the toilets but the manager let us know about trails, horse riding and canoeing that we could do. There are no frills hot showers and toilets available so don't panic. No phone reception or power outlets around so turn on, tune in and drop out of the rat race and enjoy the beauty of this place. If you've forgotten anything the garage and pub across the road in Capertee will have almost anything you need. Don't forget to bring your garbage bags as there were no communal bins that we could see anyway, so bear in mind you need to take your rubbish with you. Very relaxing weekend was had here that's pet and kid friendly with plenty to do if you're interested or just sit around near the river slamming beers like we did. Apparently Easter weekend is rammed here, so maybe skip that one if you want the peace and quiet I spoke about earlier.

Honestly, we were just checking the various seating options out, and the barman put the menus in front of me as I was getting a beer. Options abound for a meal, as available add-ons are shown as optional extras (with prices), so you can customise your order according to your appetite or budget. Most meals and burgers come with great beer battered chips - maybe the best we've had in Mudgee - and fresh salads or steamed veggies. None of the leftovers of offcuts served by lesser establishments. Don't be doubtful about the quality of food here; if something seems off or not as you expect, mention it to any of the staff there and I believe they'll be both concerned and eager to put it right for you. It's that kind of place.
