I have had extensive dental work and value my teeth. There is a major bridge and other work. I do NOT have periodontal disease. I was told I could not get a regular cleaning, based on the hygienists evaluation of periodontal disease. I was going to pay $275 for a special cleaning. I do NOT have periodontal disease. I then asked if I could get a regular cleaning and was told I would need to come back. That is what I set up the appointment for! Bottom line, I either took 'their' cleaning and paid the money OR would have to come back for a regular cleaning (that I scheduled the same day). How does this work? I was extremely uncomfortable and told the office manager I didn't want another appointment and that I would be going back to my regular dentist. I walked out. My husband will not be returning either. I purchased additional dental insurance and will go back to our previous dentist.

The tooth did not bother me at all. I never received that estimate. I am more shocked at the attempt to get an absurd amount from my insurance company for a simple cleaning. I cancelled my next appointment and went with a different practice. The office is need of some upgrades too. Equipment and furniture seemed outdated, except for the panoramic x-ray machine. I appreciated their online interface making it easy for me to schedule online (someone who has anxiety about calling and making appointments - part of why I had not seen a dentist for such a prolonged time). Their online interface also allowed me to input my insurance information ahead of time so I already knew they took my insurance. I needed to get a lot of work done but I truly appreciated Dr. O'brien's professionalism. She never once made me feel guilty about not seeing a dentist in so long and she didn't make me feel ashamed of the work I inevitably needed to get done. Dr. O'brien was also very cognizant of my comfort. When I felt pain, she stopped immediately to administer more numbing so that I would be as comfortable as possible during my procedures. The office staff were also extremely kind and fun. They walked me through every little thing: my insurance, cost, what I owed. They were able to quickly accommodate my schedule and I was able to get all of my fillings done within a week of my initial appointment. Class act in handling client experience! This was truly the worst dental experience I have ever had. I usually enjoy going to the dentist and having my teeth cleaned. And this was a borderline traumatic experience. To start, I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment and didn't get taken back for my appointment until 15 minutes after my scheduled time. Two people that showed up after me got taken back before me. Then once my X-rays were finished, the Dr came in and explained that I needed a scaling, which was fine. HOWEVER, she did not warn me at all of what this procedure was going to be. First, the hygienist that did my cleaned was so rough on my teeth and gums that I wanted to jump out of the chair. She didn't introduce herself or have any chair side manner to speak of. Then, they begin this scaling and it was so incredibly painful. I had no warning of the pain that I might feel or options for local numbing or anything. It was horrible. The place itself looks run down, and old. And wasn't at all a comforting or inviting experience. The ONLY redeeming factor about this place was Levi, the tech who took my X-rays. He was warm, and kind.. just the thing you want at the dentist. I'm not sure what happened and why he wasn't my hygienist, though I did overhear that the woman who did my cleaning beat him to it, as if it were some sort of competition. I have never had any sort of dental fear or phobia, but after going to a place like this I realize why people do, and I realize how lucky I have been to always have great dentists. The insurance company denied my request for payment of the claim, and I was told that the provider is liable and I should not be held responsible. Both my husband and I have been confronted when we go in about the unpaid balance, making me feel like I'm attacked and it's my fault. I was told by the receptionist that the insurance company should not have told me I was not responsible, and I still owe the money. If I knew the cost of the crown upfront, I would have asked for preapprove or shopped around. Also, I didn't have any pain or problem, so I may have put the work off for a while.

My experience with Ardas Family Dental, as I describe it, was a series of unfortunate events…read more I originally reached out to Ardas with a tooth ache that turned into a root canal for what was described to me as one (1) tooth. The root canal was outsourced and upon returning to Ardas, Dr. Kattaura was 'surprised' and commented out loud 'oh, looks like they did two (2) teeth root canal'. Not sure why she was surprised; but moving forward... She created a temporary while they outsourced the permanent crown. The front advised they would call when they received the new crown. Three weeks later, I personally followed up to discover they actually were in receipt of the permanent 10 days prior (would not know this as there was no follow up call from the Technicians; moving forward... We scheduled an appointment and ran through the fitting process to what I thought was fine, however Dr. Kattaura advised I would need a third outsource procedure recessing the gum lines because the permanent would most likely not have a solid fit. When the Dr. pulled the permanent and replaced the temporary until the third procedure was compiling, she curiously commented out loud 'oh, that is actually fitted quite nice and solid'. Fast forward, my Employer assigned me a project on the East coast taking me away for 8+ months. Upon arriving back to Colorado, I called Ardas to schedule the final fitting come to find they do not keep any crowns and the entire process would begin again (and the Tech's advising the cost would be on me. Notation: the monies paid thus far were in the $3,000.00 + range). Moving forward... I perceived a lot of disconnects with what was communicated with my needs vs. with what I received from Ardas and the outsourcing, combined with Dr. Kattaura's curious comments along the way supporting the disconnect, I concluded this procedure at their practice need to close and call it some loss, for lack of a better word. Ended up with Rankin Mingle Dentistry. Dr. Rankin was able to complete all final procedures...from all necessary gum line work (in-house!) and creating the permanent crown (in house!), ALL IN THREE HOURS! In closing I will say: Thank you Rankin Mingle Dentistry for finishing what was apparently so difficult for Ardas Family Dental's experience. I will add, this is just my time and the series of unfortunate events with Ardas Family Dental I experience, let alone the monetary loss. I would encourage anyone to be vigilant and on guard if they patron Dr. Kattaura and her dental practice.
