The servers studiously avoid making eye contact to see if you want anything else. We were out all day except from about 2:30-4:30 and left the service sign on our room the whole time we were out -- it was never serviced. Ok but for this price you should demand better. This is essentially a three star hotel.

And, wow!... the breakfasts are outstanding, and so beautifully presented. But what made this place truly special are the kind and caring people who worked there. We really enjoyed getting to know them, and their stories. Our favorite places for dinner and within walking distance were: Rive Gauche, Rinoccini, Zuni, and Petronelli. Enjoyed a private walking tour by Pat Moylan, Kilkenny Walking Tour that the Butler house lined up for us. Pat is truly passionate about the history of Kilkenny, and we learned so much! And, Waterford was a quick day trip by train. Highly recommend the walking tour by Jack Burtchaell (meet at the Granville Hotel).

Breakfast is included with the room rate. The rooms were nice, but a little bit dated. The bathroom was nice. It was clean. It had a great shower with hot water. An electric kettle with coffee and tea was in the room. It was quiet at night. The beds were comfortable. There isn't an elevator, but the woman at check-in had one of the staff carry my suitcase up the steps because they were winding and little difficult to navigate with a suitcase. The owner is very friendly and knows a lot about the area. He can also help you get transportation. My one issue was that I booked the room online through email but never received any confirmation that I had the room.

There were four of us looking for a quick bite en route to Cullohill. Two of us ordered toast with lattes, one asked for a scone with a cappuccino and the fourth opted for poached eggs with an Americano. After some time, the scone arrived but, alas, no jam was to be found in the place. After an interval, one of the lattes and the cappuccino arrived. The latte was unpleasantly bitter and the cappuccino, pet peeve, had spilt into the saucer but the server either hadn't noticed or couldn't be bothered. Some time later, the second latte, unaccountably better than the first, and the americano arrived. By now, this tapas approach to breakfast service was wearing thin. The eggs arrived although the omens were by now poor. Two tiny examples sitting sadly beside some mass produced brown bread were served. After another 10 or 15 minutes, toast arrived. Was it delicious sourdough served at a perfect temperature and golden colour and presented, perhaps, on a fashionable slate? No. It most certainly wasn't. Three slices of supermarket sliced pan, cut diagonally for reasons were plonked unceremoniously in front of us. As well as being anorexically thin, the toast was pale although clearly had been in some limited contact with a toaster in the previous 5 minutes or so. Cardboard would be offended by the comparison. We paid almost €22 for this abomination of a 'breakfast'. There is no excuse for such a shoddy product and simply bad service. We won't be back.

I have to admit that a little bit of the five stars I'm going to give Bridge View B&B is because I was somewhat of a rude guest, in that I arrived over an hour late after getting side tracked driving across Ireland then having my rental car locked in the parking deck across from Smithwick's Brewery (that one closes at 6PM - the 11PM one is up the street). Despite all of this, our hostess Eimear accommodated our tardiness and was very pleasant throughout the whole experience. That's reason enough to book this homey B&B, with the comfortable rooms and ideal location (along with metered parking nearby). The B&B sits right on the River Nore minutes away from a very convenient pedestrian bridge to downtown Kilkenny. The rooms are modest, with comfortable double beds and private bathrooms. The breakfast is delicious and made to order from the menu at the tables. Very much a mom and pop vibe, as Eimear made our breakfast (her husband is a musician we heard play at the Kyteler's Inn the night before - a small world indeed). The place is cash only, so be sure to have enough for your stay - if not, there are ATMs across the aforementioned pedestrian bridge. Overall, when I come back to Kilkenny I'm coming back to Bridge View B&B, and I promise this time not to be so late.

The view from the property is unbelievable. The hosts are the most kind and gracious people. We we're traveling using public transport only and Susan and Desmond were so helpful, looking up schedules, locating the best boarding spots, and even going to far as to give us a lift into Waterford to further verify our transportation options. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best we had in Ireland. Susan even makes her own vegan sausage. if you ever find yourself in Irelands southeast coast, you should go out of your way to stay at Samuel's Heritage. You won't regret it.

The rooms were separated by a dark hallway from the main part of the property. Some people might like this as they are able to enter from the parking lot without having to come through the entrance. The reason why I am giving Samuels Heritage two stars is because upon our arrival, rather that being thanked for booking with them, we were lectured by Susan on how we should have book directly through her rather than through Hotels.com. After a long day of driving and looking forward to relaxing, it was inappropriate and tacky to for her to question our role as consumers with regard our travel decisions. Hotels.com lead us to discover the Samuels Heritage in the first place (for as much as we travel, we earn free nights). It made our stay feel awkward. On the plus side, breakfast was good -- the salmon and eggs were excellent and the scones were perfect. Desmond, Susan's husband, is a really nice guy. The eggs used were freshly collected from their chickens on site. He was out in the pouring rain, gathering eggs for the day's breakfast service. The dining room was warm and inviting.
