The staff were excellent. The food was amazing. Everything really appeared to go like clock work. After dinner everyone went outside to chat and mingle the night away. The heatwave we were experiencing made it feel like the Mediterranean. After the reception room closed, we made our way to the hotel bar. Greeted by a very affable bartender, he was able to give a history of a few of the pelts and stuffed animals displayed in the room. He was a good laugh too. It's only fabulous, Castle Durrow. A great day and night was had by all.

It is a little bit pricy though, so with a 3-course meal for 4-5 people families, be prepared to pay approx. €100.

We've been in Carrick for three weeks, staying nearby, and walk to the hotel's restaurant nearly every day for tea, coffee, scones, and sometimes for lunch or dinner. The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. However, a few things we noticed took the sheen off the room: Long cracks running up the wall and ceiling The counter in the bathroom had a big chip in it The handle that switches the water to run from bath taps to the shower was gone (there was a stub that worked mind you, it just looked terrible) I was very impressed with the banquet room; it was decorated perfectly for the occasion I was there for, a wedding reception. All the staff at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. In the morning at breakfast they promptly brought things to our table that they just run out of at the hot food counter. The food was nice; from the finger food at the drinks reception, to the buffet and then the breakfast the next morning.

Nothing major admittedly but there were a few cracks and things not quite perfect the carpet in the room had a few stains. However the place is excellent. The staff and bar staff are really friendly, the rooms are very good value. The room we had was massive, it had two double beds in it and still had room to wander around. The bar is really nice and generally it looks great a really nice hotel out of Dublin. We attended a wedding here and the room for the wedding was really good and could easily hold 120-130 people. There are toilets everywhere as well and bars in all the right places. Add to this free ( good ) wifi and a quiet nights sleep as well its a great place to stay if you are in the area. Excellent.

Food is lovely. The rest is in ordinary standards so I won't be writing about the regular stuff. The bad. Service is lacking.We had our room booked and upon arriving it wasn't ready yet. Which happens, it would be okay if a four star hotel would had offered us some complimentary tea or coffee, a cake etc. We came back in one hour and room was prepared by then. One good side is the pricing for the standards you get, except the service quality is lacking. At the bar restaurant (main opens only after 5 pm) we ordered three course meal and drinks. We ordered steak for which we had to pay extra €5 once we finished and went to pay for the drinks at the till. €5 fee applies to who gets steak with a voucher, we had that. We were not advised when we ordered steak that it will be charged extra. So that is another minus for service. IMPORTANT! This hotel mainly serves as a overnight stay for people who come to see their folks at the nearby hospital. Also, hotel supports local charity or some kids organisation (which is fantastic), just be prepared to see a lot of children running around in a lobby or swimming pool area. Breakfast was busy ( Sunday madness) but the buffet provided everything for all kind of different tastes.
