I can't believe no one has reviewed this place (myself included). I have honestly never had an…read moreexperience quite like Blue Ridge Movie Lounge. "Family Owned and Operated" is the definite moniker here. The owner and his wife were bending over backwards to serve their guests for the Friday night showing I attended (even with a newborn strapped in her carrier). My sister and I wandered by around their 4PM showing, which was full, and the owners kindly said, "we have 2 spots left for 7PM" so we were sold. So, it may not be the most technologically advanced place to see a movie, but the atmosphere is by far the best. Despite us not being true locals, the lounge with all of it's hand me down recliners, sofas, and loveseats had a real "locals" atmosphere, and we felt welcomed there by everyone. I think half of the people in there knew each other and attend movies there regularly. The wine&beer selection is just OK, but I know some of that has to do with distribution rights. Hoping by my next visit they may be able to have Boondocks or another local brewery available. I'm not a big cider person. This does not lower the rating as I was already full from dinner and enjoyed a coke instead. We opted not to order food from the local restaurant that delivers takeout for the show, but that is a cool think for weekend date nights...you place your order before 5PM, tell them it's for BRML, and it's all delivered together just before showtime so that you can eat. They pass out TV trays for those with meals. All in all, West Jeff is my new "dream town to move to", and this might just be my favorite business in West Jeff. Whether you are local or travelling through, I highly recommend you try it out.

Only $4.95 per ticket for the morning show. Prices for refreshments and snacks were big-city scary, so I suppose it balances out. But Abingdon has a right to be proud of its movie theater, a cut above the usual regional chains.

Of the two sets of doors in the front, half of them weren't functioning which meant that big crowds were all moving in and out of the building through one set of doors. Not great. We stand in a line of about 60 people with 15 of those being outdoors in late November in Abingdon where the temperature is in the upper 30s. Brrrrr. We asked folks around us if they had already bought tickets, if this line was just for concessions, etc. but no one was certain. After eventually moving inside we saw that the ticket purchase line and the concession line appeared to be the same one. Also, we saw that no one was checking tickets as you entered the theater area. So we got out of line and went to our theater. We had bought tickets in advance but it should would have been easy for anyone just to head right in without tickets. The staff looked overwhelmed, understandably so, but the line arrangement and information were poor. We were in a theater with the multiway reclining seats. I kept mine upright for most of the film but when I did try to recline, many of the buttons didn't work.

I also loved that they have the speakers still that you can hang on your window - the last couple drive-ins I've been to had removed them so it was exciting as I love them for nostalgia purposes as well as prefer using them over tuning in in the car. Overall I do plan to be back! Even between buying a couple snacks and the ticket the cost was less than half of what I last spent at the movie theater. Great for a personal night out to unwind or an easy and cheap trip out with the family

Great screen, classic movie refreshments, or BYO snacks and drinks, plus you don't have to hear every wanker that wants to rummage through his popcorn box, crinkle wrappers, and slurp his drink! That right there makes it worth the trip. It's fun fora date night, a group outing, or just to enjoy a movie without all the problems inherent in a movie theater. I love it!
