Ryan James is one of the few true fine arts galleries featuring complex "modern, abstract,…read moreconceptual" works of primarily local artists. They close for a few days at the start of every month to rotate their pieces, showcasing different artists each month. They often repaint walls and/or repaint pedestals to match the aesthetics of the new arts being displayed. They also participate in the Seattle Art Fair yearly in July. Many of the featured works are contemporary, as though in the process of creating a new genre. If you enjoy pushing your envelope on art comprehension, this is the place to go. I visited back in June with my niece, who is an art student. We probably spent more time there than many other visitors talking through every piece - discussing methods, ratios, layouts, flow, vibes, and more. We were very drawn to the paintings of Kalina Winska. Her themes often incorporate weather patterns into her art - mist, drizzle, air flow, clouds, etc. We both chose the same work as our favorite - an abstract that looks like weather patterns complete with arrows in swirling random-like directions. It has the longest name ever. See photos. A unique feature of Ryan James is that they have an artwork rental library! For as little as $45 a month, you can enjoy different paintings on your wall. From a few dollars for a card, to tens, hundreds, and even thousands of dollars for pottery, jewelry, and exquisite one-of-a-kind art, there is something for everyone. I was here on "Shop Small Saturday". Not surprising, I was pleasantly pleased with the variations of art works offered, from wearables, to functionals, and decorative, I eyed pottery bowls, jewelry, wall art, and these beautiful ceramic bouquets. I did walk away with a pretty piece. Yay, me. Check their hours before going. The shopping season is ending soon; they'll turn back into a pumpkin - i.e. an art center.

Throughout the entire time, she was very patient and was always willing to spark and encourage ideas. What's great about this is their open studio time where you can come in and work on your pieces during the open session where an instructor will be there to help. Apparently there was another student in class who went to the Bothell pottery class and their charged her an arm and a leg just for extra clay and firing... This is definitely a place worth coming!

I texted a picture and she said she was interested. She has a Gerstein on the wall of her house, which I didn't know about. I went in the next day and loved all the Gerstein works, which I had never seen before. I purchased the racehorse for my friend and The girl on a bike for myself. Byung took great care of me and was to mail the 2 works in about 10 days, as we would not have been home to receive them. He took care of everything. We arrived home to California on Sunday and the 2 works of art came the next day. I would highly recommend this gallery. Byung is very personable and extremely helpful and honest.
