Grand Place is basically across the street, and there's tons of restaurants to walk to. It's easy to get on the metro as well. 5-star location. They also had free (very large) lockers that I could use after I checked out. The room itself was nothing amazing, but the bed was fine and there was plenty of space. The major annoying part was the check-in process. When I got to the hotel, I could not get in the building. You have to go through this lengthy check-in process that seriously involves taking a picture of your Passport with your phone. I'm not gonna go do this out on the street! I tried pressing the call buzzer a good 10-15 times and it took a good 10 minutes to get anyone to show up. Finally someone helped me so everything worked out. Also, the whole thing is based on these pin codes to get on the elevator or into your room, they don't give you a room card or anything. I could have done without this.

With our trip coming to an end, we had mixed emotions - it was something we looked forward to for months while planning it, but damn... we were to tired. We walked over 100 miles during our time in various cities, so we were both very excited to get back to a normal life... and Hotel Metropole was our last stop before making that journey. The main lobby area looked much more like a super old school bank, than a hotel. Outside the hotel, there was a ton of construction going on, as they were completely re-doing a very wide road (think small highway-sized.) The person who checked us in provided us with ear buds in case the construction noise disturbed us, but we didn't hear anything from our rooms. Plus, we loved the very centralized location of this hotel - everything was within one mile, which allowed us to walk to everything we had on our itinerary. Our bellhop quickly became my all-time favorite person in his chosen profession. He had our bags and basically went into an all-out sprint to make sure to catch the elevator, but somehow he did this super gracefully. I was wildly impressed. He couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating, as we had a few questions about the area and the room. The room had very high ceilings and a huge bathroom. It wasn't super updated or out-of-date - kind of caught in the middle. The AC was not turned on for our stay on May 9th, which meant that we had to open the window. Not ideal, but this was the norm throughout Europe at this time of year. Breakfast was offered for 9.50 Euros (Express) or 21 Euros (Full) but we didn't have time. We were only here for one night and had a flight to catch in the morning. My biggest complaint was the situation with the shower. When you turned the water on, it came out of both the shower head and the water faucet and there was no way to turn off one or the other. They were either both on or both off. That would have been fine, but the temperature in the water was wildly different. My shower water was warm, but the bath water was scalding. I would have loved the shower water to be hotter, but my feet couldn't handle the bath water to be turned up any more. It had to have been about a 20 degree difference. Other than that, our stay here was great!

Then they charged me a no show fee cause I checked in late. Uhh, wow. The Internet was down again during my first night. I couldn't get my room cool enough at night and had to open my window. It was trade-off of sleeping in a cool room, but also smelling the occasional cigarette and hearing pedestrians. An employee let himself into my room one evening. He just swiped his badge, opened the door and started waking in. I told him to get the F out. " Oh I'm sorry, my mistake" Wow again. Why the heck was he entering if he wasn't sure if the room was occupied?! Knock, moron. He offered me a complimentary drink for the inconvenience of him walking in on me. No thanks. I'd simply rather have privacy. I'll never stay here again.

It it reasonably priced with a very friendly staff. When you enter this hotel it feels like you are entering a high end club lounge (club music is always playing). It has a very laid back cool young energy vibe......although during the week they are bus loads of retirees visiting for a couple days. Their food is just as good as going to a restaurant downtown (well actually the steak and breakfast buffet was). It is a hip downtown spot so you will see people enjoying the lounge atmosphere but are probably not staying at the hotel. It sort of reminds me of a more reasonable version of the W. The hotel wasn't luxurious, but the room was a decent size -- much better than XO Hotel Inner in Amsterdam. However, like nearly every hotel in Europe, the room was too warm, and we had to keep the windows open at all times to get any relief. No major complaints, aside from the area being quite noisy, and one night, there were people outside blasting their music late into the night. No noise from other rooms, though. The hotel had a small bar and "restaurant" that sold a few basic low quality items, such as pizza -- a lifesaver if you were starving and not picky, but not a place for a meal. They did have a decent breakfast buffet though, although it did cost something like €15. Not cheap, but at least the food was pretty good quality (unlike the awful breakfast at XO Hotel Inner!). There weren't laundry facilities in the hotel, but they were close to a laundromat, which we very much needed in the middle of a three week trip. Overall, a decent hotel for a good price.
