Jeremy James is the individual doing business as Park Estates. We rented a house from him in Lansing, Michigan in July. The house had been foreclosed upon in March. At the time, we were told Jeremy James was in the process of refinancing, thus we may receive mail from different individuals addressed to the home and we should send this mail to him. We complied with this instruction. In September, Jeremy James' redemption period to reclaim his house ended. We were not notified by either Mr. James or the bank at this time, and Jeremy James continued communication with us which asserted himself as the true owner of the house. From September to November, he collected over $2000 in rent that he was not legally entitled to.
In November, a notice was attached to the door of the home stating that a judgment was entered against Jeremy James related to the home. As requested, we allowed Mr. James to retrieve this information by picking it up from our mailbox, and urged him to call us immediately to explain the status of the house. Jeremy James and did not return this call, however he did receive the message to collect the paperwork, and did so.
Several days later a letter addressed to the occupants of the home was received, stating that the bank now owned the home. We immediately called Jeremy James with this news. He again explained that this was part of the refinancing process and requested to see this notice. He rearticulated that he was still the individual owed the next months rent.
A call to the bank revealed to us the status of the house. Jeremy James did not have legal title to the home for the prior three months. He was foreclosed upon, then failed to reclaim the home by paying back mortgage within the requisite six month period. When confronted with this information, Mr. James did not deny the foreclosure. We have since ceased contact with this landlord.
I would not rent from Park Estates or Jeremy James under any circumstances. read more
